LOL ! You judging pastor Joel from watching TV? His sermons on TV are for everyone. After service he has a beginner classes and explains what you need to do to repent and lead a life pleasing to God. He does thousands of referrals every week helping people connect to God fearing churches. He states you can have victory in your life BUT you need to abide in Christ, obey the Lord. I praise God for Pastor Joel. We are able to continue where he started.

I can say with almost absolute certainty that your own personal rapture will occur for you within the next 80 years. You go see him, he does not come to see you. Mark 9:1 indicates this has been expected for almost 2000 years. Do not hold your breath until the second coming! I doubt the second coming as much as the first. I try to follow the teaching of Micah 6:8.
This has just excerpts of what they both say, so although it shows the contrast really well, I'm not sure it shows the whole picture. I think it effectively suggests Osteen's false teaching (not totally wrong), and that Washer's doctrine is much more sound (not perfect), and we do need to remember repentance, but I don't think preaching should be smacking 100% of the time. If a pastor / minister does only that all the time, I think that could distort the Gospel too.

It is nothing less than heretical to make the gospel a formula. Jesus Himself was a perfect representation of the Father, and He did not go about relating to people by reminding them they are sinners. He did this primarily to only one group of people: the SELF RIGHTEOUS. All men are DRAWN to Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit, and the darkness is exposed by LIGHT. To require a gospel formula as a basis for judgment is a RELIGIOUS SPIRIT.

Paul Washer believes man's fundamental problem is the lack of knowledge of sin, or the inability to admit sin. I disagree. Osteen simply believes that GRACE is a greater incentive than the threat of damnation, but it is absolutely true that people can come to Jesus either way. The idea that we have "2 natures" is a theological icon. Paul said to "reckon" or "count" the old man as DEAD. THIS IS NOT SIMPLY HAVING AUTHORITY OVER SOMETHING ALIVE. While it may appear I am splitting hairs, this is hugely important in understanding our foundational identity in Christ, which is directly contradictory to what Paul Washer preaches.

We are sinners by capablity, but we are not sinners by identity. Washer sees a deep understanding of personal evil as a necessary ingredient for change. This is pure hogwash. The apostle Paul said "all have sinned," but he did not exalt sin by making it the overriding emphasis in his message. The GOOD NEWS of Christ as the remedy for sin has power because it convicts of sin on its own. The Holy Spirit convicts of sin. If we think it is our job, we become sheep beaters just like PW.

Paul Washer in context is a man doing his best to deal with cultural Christianity in the Southern Baptist denomination. He has a one dimensional mission to awaken people of the seriousness of sin and to bring a sense of urgency for people to discover their own salvation. Insofar as this context extends to American Christianity, that is where Washer is relevant, but a "shock jock" ministry has its limitations, and Washer's are gapping. A message of fear does not water or empower.
@denoinwa you must be very limited in you knowledge of Paul Washer's ministry for Christ. I just finished a 4 part series he had on "The Son's Glory" on sermonaudio. Focusing on the glory of Christ and helping me realize who Christ really is so I may worship him as I should. If we don't know who God really is, and who we really are, how can we truly understand and appreciate what Christ did. I recommend you watch those and be blessed by how the Holy Spirit moves when the truth is presented.
@brianjnunes I agree that knowing who Christ is, and knowing who we are is the crux of the matter. I dont believe Washer has it right at all. A conviction of evil in our hearts AFTER SALVATION is not the message of the Bible. ALL of our sin was buried with Christ at the point of salvation through faith. God destroyed sin on the cross. This IS the GOOD NEWS.
@denoinwa yes we died to sin, but be very careful. Although sin has lost it's authority over us, it still can influence us. Before we were saved we were slaves to sin, and it had control. We still have a body of flesh influenced by sin, and our relationship with Christ is spiritual. We have 2 natures in us and as we become more transformed into the likenes of Christ, the dominion of the human nature becomes less and less. So yes, we are justified by Christ, but repent of sin daily.
I appreciate and admire Rev. Washer's gifted insight into the Gospel. Every message I've from him thus far has confirmed that I am on the right path, spiritually. However, what I've heard isn't sprinkled enough with the peace, love and longsuffering grace of God. I haven't heard him say that even though we exist in such sinful states that Grace is our peace, as we appreciate the tru message of the Gospel and continually seek God's face by grace through faith in Christ.

To no surprise, Paul Washer never once mentions salvation as being the “free gift” of God in his sermon. Yet that is exactly what it is called in Romans 5:15. I just listen to Washer last nigh for the1st time, when he preached to the 5000 kids at the youth get together. That is the message that many hundreds like Osteen needs to hear. I heard and reevaluate my salvation. Thank you Jesus for Washer. WHAT A CONTRAST BETWEEN THE TWO, THERE IS HOPE FOR OSTEEN, HE JUST NEEDS GOD TO CONVICT HIM. Matt 7. so we are supposed to concern ourselves with the actions of others. simply put, reprove, reproach, admonish, teach, rebuke, correct, and train in righteousness others only after you've examined yourself to make sure you aren't doing the exact same thing. Paul tells us we need to correct each other. there's a thin line between judging and correcting i agree. Joel Osteen uses God and the Bible to underpin his career as a life coach. He doesn't convict people of sin or their need for salvation. All he offers is warm fuzzies, a feel good message and temporal happiness
In fairness, Osteen hasn't said much that I find offensive, I don't think he's much in terms of a leader for a Church body though. He doesn't seem to have a focus on God at all. He seems to focus entirely on good things, but 8:52 is the catch for me, he preaches to thousands, but doesn't mind that he doesn't introduce Scripture? I'm sure he helps many, many lives - but does he help people's walk with God? Does he see many *genuinely* saved? I think probably not. Many in church is not many saved.
You cannot take two messages, Washer teaching 'total depravity' and Osteen something more like 'with God you can achieve great things' and compare the two as if they are antithetical. The two messages are equally true and coherent. They slot in at different points on the entire Gospel message spectrum. Yes, first and foremost one acknowledges his own sin and hopelessness without God, but secondly he has also got to embrace that God's principles, values are life giving and powerful.
Some of the thoughts I have had are so evil, and I have no shame admitting them because everyone else out there is the same. We have the capacity to be so evil.
Paul Washer's preaching is the type of preaching Christians need to hear. If we do not oppose the watered-down gospel message of sloppy grace, we are allowing our brothers and sisters to go to hell.
Personally, I am offended by any preacher or evangelist that allows their picture to be plastered on books, videos and CDs that supposedly teach about scripture and Jesus Christ. Who are they drawing attention to - themselves or Jesus?
I think we should probably quit criticizing preachers like Osteen, I dunno if he is saved or not I can't look into his heart and make any real judgment about his ministry unless it's out right profanity against The Lord. My first impression of Osteen is similar to many people in the Church like wheres the conviction? Where's the Gospel? if we see it and believe it wrong then it's up to us to proclaim the truth with even more boldness and drown out that type of preaching like background noise.
We also need to point out how Osteens teaching is unbiblical, and resoundingly so, because he has tens of thousands of people in his congregation that apparently believe he is teaching truth. But is he? What does he say compared with what the scriptures themselves teach? I agree, we teach the Truth boldly; but we are just as obligated to point out error. Examine the epistles and see there how much material is committed to correcting error.

He does thousands of referrals every week helping people connect to God fearing churches. He states you can have victory in your life BUT you need to abide in Christ, obey the Lord. This has just excerpts of what they both say, so although it shows the contrast really well, I'm not sure it shows the whole picture. I think it effectively suggests Osteen's false teaching (not totally wrong), and that Washer's doctrine is much more sound (not perfect), and we do need to remember repentance, but I don't think preaching should be smacking 100% of the time. If a pastor / minister does only that all the time, I think that could distort the Gospel too.

A person will never come to faith by the perfection of scripture. A person comes to faith by the hand of God drawing them, and by a person's response to that invitation. You can relax in the peace of God. You dont have to prove a thing about scripture. Scripture proves itself because God Himself breathed it, and HE breathes it into others. It's great that Paul Washer's ministry has helped you. That is awesome. He is not helping you, however, in teaching you to blaspheme people like Osteen. Osteen simply believes that GRACE is a greater incentive than the threat of damnation, but it is absolutely true that people can come to Jesus either way. So if damnation is your preference, good luck with that. Also, FAITH in Christ and receiving what He did for us on the cross IS THE MEANS BY WHICH WE ARE BORN AGAIN. Hello?

The idea that we have "2 natures" is a theological icon. Paul said to "reckon" or "count" the old man as DEAD. THIS IS NOT SIMPLY HAVING AUTHORITY OVER SOMETHING ALIVE. While it may appear I am splitting hairs, this is hugely important in understanding our foundational identity in Christ, which is directly contradictory to what Paul Washer preaches.

We are sinners by capablity, but we are not sinners by identity. Washer sees a deep understanding of personal evil as a necessary ingredient for change. This is pure hogwash. The apostle Paul said "all have sinned," but he did not exalt sin by making it the overriding emphasis in his message. The GOOD NEWS of Christ as the remedy for sin has power because it convicts of sin on its own. The Holy Spirit convicts of sin. If we think it is our job, we become sheep beaters just like PW.

Paul Washer in context is a man doing his best to deal with cultural Christianity in the Southern Baptist denomination. He has a one dimensional mission to awaken people of the seriousness of sin and to bring a sense of urgency for people to discover their own salvation. Insofar as this context extends to American Christianity, that is where Washer is relevant, but a "shock jock" ministry has its limitations, and Washer's are gapping. A message of fear does not water or empower.

@denoinwa you must be very limited in you knowledge of Paul Washer's ministry for Christ. I just finished a 4 part series he had on "The Son's Glory" on sermonaudio. Focusing on the glory of Christ and helping me realize who Christ really is so I may worship him as I should. If we don't know who God really is, and who we really are, how can we truly understand and appreciate what Christ did. I recommend you watch those and be blessed by how the Holy Spirit moves when the truth is presented.

A conviction of evil in our hearts AFTER SALVATION is not the message of the Bible. ALL of our sin was buried with Christ at the point of salvation through faith. God destroyed sin on the cross. @denoinwa yes we died to sin, but be very careful. Although sin has lost it's authority over us, it still can influence us. Before we were saved we were slaves to sin, and it had control. We still have a body of flesh influenced by sin, and our relationship with Christ is spiritual. We have 2 natures in us and as we become more transformed into the likenes of Christ, the dominion of the human nature becomes less and less. So yes, we are justified by Christ, but repent of sin daily.

I appreciate and admire Rev. Washer's gifted insight into the Gospel. Every message I've from him thus far has confirmed that I am on the right path, spiritually. However, what I've heard isn't sprinkled enough with the peace, love and longsuffering grace of God. I haven't heard him say that even though we exist in such sinful states that Grace is our peace, as we appreciate the tru message of the Gospel and continually seek God's face by grace through faith in Christ.

To no surprise, Paul Washer never once mentions salvation as being the “free gift” of God in his sermon. Yet that is exactly what it is called in Romans 5:15. Mr. Washer wrongly defines “repentance” as a ceasing from living in sin BEFORE and AFTER salvation. This effectively makes eternal life a reward and not a gift.
I can't stand his 18 month old baby anology. His disdain towards runaway kids who might have a problem with their parents paul washer would deem them as monstors.

I just listen to Washer last nigh for the1st time, when he preached to the 5000 kids at the youth get together. That is the message that many hundreds like Osteen needs to hear. I heard and reevaluate my salvation. Thank you Jesus for Washer. WHAT A CONTRAST BETWEEN THE TWO, THERE IS HOPE FOR OSTEEN, HE JUST NEEDS GOD TO CONVICT HIM. @iamacamera1 we need not so easily say someone is judging others. Jesus tells us to make sure you don't have a plank in our own eyes before we remove the mote from someone else's eye. Matt 7. so we are supposed to concern ourselves with the actions of others. simply put, reprove, reproach, admonish, teach, rebuke, correct, and train in righteousness others only after you've examined yourself to make sure you aren't doing the exact same thing. That's what's going here... not judging.

Paul tells us we need to correct each other. there's a thin line between judging and correcting i agree. God tells us when to correct by leading us with His Holy Spirit. we tell ourselves to judge others. it's through the flesh that we sin. its through the Holy Spirit that we do the work of the Lord -- that's what's happening here.

In fairness, Osteen hasn't said much that I find offensive, I don't think he's much in terms of a leader for a Church body though. He doesn't seem to have a focus on God at all. He seems to focus entirely on good things, but 8:52 is the catch for me, he preaches to thousands, but doesn't mind that he doesn't introduce Scripture? I'm sure he helps many, many lives - but does he help people's walk with God? Does he see many *genuinely* saved? I think probably not. Many in church is not many saved.

You cannot take two messages, Washer teaching 'total depravity' and Osteen something more like 'with God you can achieve great things' and compare the two as if they are antithetical. The two messages are equally true and coherent. They slot in at different points on the entire Gospel message spectrum. Yes, first and foremost one acknowledges his own sin and hopelessness without God, but secondly he has also got to embrace that God's principles, values are life giving and powerful.

Paul Washer's preaching is the type of preaching Christians need to hear. If we do not oppose the watered-down gospel message of sloppy grace, we are allowing our brothers and sisters to go to hell.
Personally, I am offended by any preacher or evangelist that allows their picture to be plastered on books, videos and CDs that supposedly teach about scripture and Jesus Christ. Who are they drawing attention to - themselves or Jesus?

I think we should probably quit criticizing preachers like Osteen, I dunno if he is saved or not I can't look into his heart and make any real judgment about his ministry unless it's out right profanity against The Lord. My first impression of Osteen is similar to many people in the Church like wheres the conviction? Where's the Gospel? if we see it and believe it wrong then it's up to us to proclaim the truth with even more boldness and drown out that type of preaching like background noise.

But is he? What does he say compared with what the scriptures themselves teach? I agree, we teach the Truth boldly; but we are just as obligated to point out error. Examine the epistles and see there how much material is committed to correcting error.

The reason HE hasn't wiped us out is because we have an intecessor who can hold back the Wrath of God. But it will be release in the Great Trib. which is why God says it is most dangerous time since the earth began. You also forget people die everyday and most die with a gospel likened to Joel Osteen. You know, I don't go to any church, But I have seen Joel Osteen preaching and when I look at his eyes, he strike me as a liar (kind of one of those politicians that want your vote and will tell you what you want to hear for them to be able to have your vote and be in office, but when they're in office you find out that was just deceived? You very seldom find a preacher who preaches biblical truth anymore. i mean i'm only 18 but it seems to me that as time goes on the lies get bigger.

Osteen is such a liar, and he lies about the Bible. He's so incredibly satanic. He's no different than Satan in the Garden of Eden, as he charms with that chummy voice with that friendly smile. It's all deceptive.
Osteen's satanic doctrine is beyond despicable, and he acts like our finite existence supersedes our eternal destiny.
We live for God by faith in Him and His finished work. Ignoring the reality of sin is not sound preaching.

He preaches that we should use God to get to the things we put first in our lives instead of put God first in our lives then everything else would be added on. SO MANY people are going to hell because of him. And in fact they are going to hell because they have a heart like his. They don't care about storing up their treasures in heaven and so they will eternally be bankrupt and poor in the pits of hell. World please repent.

And as a Ph.D. having conducted my own for years, I can personally testify that academic research is one of the most CORRUPT, bureaucratic, nepotistic, incestuous, and politically partisan arenas.

I've enjoyed the dialogue. And I do wish you would open your heart a bit, and experience the world in more than just a 2-dimensional view, so to speak. I am not saying that as an offense, truly, only that I wish you could see how much richer life can be when you experience God for yourself.

It is INFURIATING to hear him talk about how he wants to make the Bible "relevant." Oh, my, that statement is wrong in ways I can't describe!!!!!

We're at a point in our species where we have answered a lot of questions about nature and there a lot more questions to be answered. But it is foolish to answer these questions with the age old answer of god and Jesus. Especially when they have failed us EVERY time. The more science tells us the more we can excuse the contradictions and untruths of the bible. How ironic we have this debate on Darwin's birthday.

This may surprise Paul and yourself, but most people can share their thoughts on a video and be proud of themselves about them. Paul makes me think of Ted Haggard who must have been talking about himself that whole time.
