For the last year and a bit now the NFL has adopted the rule of giving out large fines for NFL players delivering hits to the head (for example, James Harrison from the Pittsburgh Steelers got a couple of fines after the rule was implemented)...but yeah, it is good that the Shannahan and the NHL are trying to cut down hits to the head

No footballer (not gridiron) ever gets fined this much for a hit on the head. That's massive. It shows how serious this issue is in the NFL, and how much seriously Shannahan is taking lack of discipline.

@vp11fb4 umm...while i agree with the fact that Shannhan is taking the hits to the head seriously (which is a good thing), your actually wrong about the NFL issue. For the last year and a bit now the NFL has adopted the rule of giving out large fines for NFL players delivering hits to the head (for example, James Harrison from the Pittsburgh Steelers got a couple of fines after the rule was implemented)...but yeah, it is good that the Shannahan and the NHL are trying to cut down hits to the head

Even if it's an over the top punishment its to set an example so other players STOP hitting in the head. You can cause severe damage from head shots like that, I applaud the leagues initiative. Don't get me wrong though, I love the fights and roughing in hockey, just not to the head.

It was an intentional hit to the head. Even if he was being charged by Clutterbuck, he can defend himself differently instead of a cheap headshot.
