  • Elements of this story were in Scorsese's Last Temptation.

  • 11:13 I was unaware satan was fighting for the rebels

  • owl city bring me here.

  • Peyton runs to his wife 5 times the same way. Limited picture space?

I read the story in school and my teacher recommended that we watch this. I didn't read about the hanging at the very end; it just said:

"He springs forward with extended arms. As he is about to clasp her, he feels a stunning blow on the back of his neck. A blinding white light shines all about him, sounding like a connon burst. Then all is darkness and silence!"

  • That ending was shocking, esp. with the quick cut! Don't know what he did, but I felt bad for that guy!

  • @la214la he was trying to sabotage a bridge during the civil war.

  • What song is it in the film? Is there any posibility to download it?

  • Anyone else noticed they replayed the clip of Peyton running too his wife like 5 times? XD

  • @SkitzCrew just like kung pow:fists of fury

  • @SkitzCrew It was meant to be like that. It shows how he loves his wife and it is unrealistic, like the dream.

  • @SkitzCrew

The repetitive running scene reminded me of a similar scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (watch?v=9ryPUJyQf6g).

  • I can only imagine how difficult it is for a filmmaker to capture the atmosphere of a short story or a novel. Robert Enrico really nailed the bleak, ghostly Ambrose Bierce vibe here.

  • @Pin33

I agree 100%. IMHO it was the best thing that TZ ever aired and the Short Story is one of the best ever penned.

  • I'd rather die in fantasy than live in reality... Rotten planet...

  • I first saw this movie in the 8th grade in junior high school (1970-1971). It was haunting then and now.

  • I have to compare and contrast .....:/ the book from the movie

  • so, as you are falling to your death, you dream about taking off all of your clothes, running for 20 minutes, then seeing your best gal for about a minute.

  • não gostei do fim ..coitado

  • This movie felt so strange but so real to me.

  • brilliant movie!

  • One of the best shor films ever ! thats for sure !

  • Love the song!

  • Had to watch this for english. I felt much of the sounds distracted the story except for the watch ticking. that was necessary. The song has gotten on my nerves and is still stuck in my head lol. Nonetheless this is one of the best old films I have seen.

  • My dad always told me about watching this when he was a kid, and i read the story in english this year. Now i finally watched it, pretty intense short film.

  • This is cool, Im writing a compare and contrast essay between this movie and the book, thanks for uploading this.

  • @ManifestPrime You wouldn't happen to be finished, would you? As an American college student, I'd love to read it!

  • @rbell2012 If you're interested.

  • This guy have beautiful wife children, big house...why the hell he did those crap to get caught for the execution

  • @69sakibkhan An undercover Union soldier dressed in a Southern uniform, convinced him that he had a duty to the South and that a bridge needed to be taken out (while he did not belong to the Southern military, he supported it and tried to assist any way he could). He was caught doing it. Since he was not in uniform or a member of the Southern Forces they could hang him as a spy.

  • What was the name of that song? The one about a living man?

  • I have seen this many times and still feel it was ahead of its time. The use of subjective/objective camera was slick for its day. The soundtrack is lush and descriptive next to the empty dialogue. This thing is an exercise in past/future and present tense storytelling. Still shown at many film schools...Cool stuff-yeah, some predict the ending, Still, it was 1962

  • Although I wouldn't call Twilight Zone "horseshit" it was probably not the best venue for an otherwise fine film. TZ likes stories with a plot twist and imaginative fantasies. That made the ending TOTALLY PREDICTABLE.

  • Palme d'Or in 62 for short-film

  • One of the peaks of French cinema. I vastly prefer the original film without the American "Twilight Zone" horseshit.

  • @Mazurka1001 complaining about America on an American website eh?

  • @TheRandomEpicVideos American or Amerikwan? Or Americoon, more likely?

  • @Mazurka1001

That "French Cinema" was based off of a book written by an American, as is every adaptation of "An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge"

  • One of the best shorts I saw...

  • One of the best short films ever.
