  • Bellísima interpretación !!

  • Beautiful playing, excellent rendition of probably one of the first tunes I can remember hearing on the 'wireless' in the 50's (in Wales, UK). Fabulous.

  • @blossomsquirrel

Thanks a lot for your kind words of support! I appreciate the listen and post.

  • I've had this great melody in my head all day and when i discovered yr interesting take on it here it made me realize again how a truly classic song can accommodate all kinds of arrangement. This one moved me deeply-- you play beautifully.

  • @shuttergun

Thank you much shuttergun. The arrangement credits for this version, of course, belong to the great Pat Donohue. I'm just happy I came across it and was able to learn it, especially since Pat never tabbed it out!

  • Bei solche Musik kann man leichter atmen, super, bitte noch mal...

  • @resonatox

Herzlichen Dank! Ja, Musik zum Entspannen...

  • Oh i love the Three Suns version of this song, and your playing made me love the song even more. Great playing.

  • @polishbroadcast

    Thanks much!

I'll have to check out that version you mentioned.

  • continue assim

  • Hi, This is one of my favourite tunes as well, and to hear it played so beautifully is a delight, thanks

  • @mwake7

Thanks a lot! Glad you liked it.

    Best,

    Andre

  • Bravo, Andre! I've started to relearn this after about four years! You play it beautifully.

  • @gesunelson

Is that you Gerry? How are you man! Great to hear from you. Yes, it was a painstakingly long time coming, but I finally was able to piece enough of it together to make it whole. Thanks for your post! All the best with the tune, and let's see it soon!!!

    Best,

    Andre

  • @Gitfiddlemann, yes, it's Gerry. Still playing and I need to post some new videos soon! Hope you're well. Your email tips and this video are a great help for Blue Tango.

    All the best,

    Gerry

  • Great playing!

  • @carrtunescarrtunes

    Thanks (carrtunes)2 ! :-)

  • Great job; great arrangement.

    Bravo!

  • @bsur2000

    Thanks!

  • Very well done! This is probably my fav Donohue song and you did a wonderful cover of it (IMHO)...was wondering if you had a more recent performance of it, reason for asking is my impression of this video si that you are a bit "stiff" from becoming 100% familiar with the song..please dont take my comment the wrong way..I would really like to see a video of you playing it now as im sure your feel for the piece is much more personal...

  • Hello,

THanks for your post, and I didn't take it the wrong way at all. It's true actually. This was my very first video and it did feel a little uncomfortable. I don't have any recent re-dos of this in video, but you're right. I'm more comfortable with the tune, and I even corrected a few wrong notes!

    Thanks again!

  • NICE tune! Is that OPEN G tuning??

or Drop D? Sounds like G to me...

    thnx, ddanze

  • Hi ddanze,

The tune is in Drop D, (6th string only)

    Thanks again.

  • superb Andre!

    Absolutely excellent!

Sorry so long in getting the DVD to you.

    I have not forgotten!

It'd GREAT if you do another run on this tune,

perhaps a tad slower and with some explanation of the chord positions and RH strikes.

    Simple instruction....no need for perfection.

I would love to learn this one, and I bet a few others would too .

    thanks

    Rob

  • Hey Rob,

    No problem, and no hurry!

Thanks a lot for your kind words.

I've never done an "instruction" video before but I'll give it some thought. In the meantime, let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks again,

    Andre

  • Makes me want to dance. Loved it!

  • Hey Jude....:-) Glad you liked it!

  • Hey Jude, take a sad song nd make it better

    :)

    Rob

  • I have played this music on the violin though, your sound is fantastic!

  • Thanks konkon,

I would love to hear this tune on violin. Must be nice!

  • show me how to play this

  • Thanks MOONDOGGY3!

    Maybe I'll post a lesson???..:-)

  • totally awesome

  • Outstanding playing. I really enjoyed it.

  • Thanks a lot for watching and posting!

  • Excellent job! Pat would be proud!

This is my fav from American Guitar

  • Thanks! That would be the ultimate.

Pat's American Guitar was a big inspiration for me.

    He's the real deal.

  • ...so lovely, i'm going to play it at my tango dance this week.

  • Thanks a lot! I'm honored.

  • Perfect!!!

  • Not quite! Perfect would be Pat Donohue.

But I'll take the kind words! Thanks!

And besides, there is only one Pat, and very few can play in his house!!! :-)

  • 5*****

    :-D

  • Thanks Luciano! Glad you liked this one.

  • Thanks! and sorry about the later reply. I missed seeing your question.

The tuning is "Drop D",i.e. standard tuning except for the bass 6th string E, which gets tuned down a whole step to D.

  • Cheers!!! 6 Stars!!!!!

  • Thanks iplayslow! (Nothing wrong with that by the way...:-)

  • Just beautiful !!

You have a new fan !

    cheers,

    wolfgang

  • Thanks Wolfgang! I'm glad you liked this one.

  • A good Job !

    Bravo

  • Thanks! It's a fun piece and wonderful arrangement by Pat.

  • I was listening to Pat playing Blue Tango and thought I'd search for an original version to see what his inspiration was. Surprised to find your video. Your performance superbly interprets Pat's arrangement.

I concur with your assessment of Pat's standing in the acoustic guitarists community. He is a talented guitarist who can play about any style. And his arrangements are tasteful and quite listenable. His Two Hand Band arrangements are amazing.

  • Hi rchukran,

Thanks a lot for your kind words and comments.

FYI, Pat had this to say about the tune in his American Guitar CD jacket:

When he was a kid, his parents used to play the recording of it at home.(presumably the original instrumental from the composer Leroy Anderson in 1952)

I guess it's safe to say that his arrangement came from one of those early recordings, although Pat says his version is not technically a Tango!

    Thanks again.

  • Well Done!!

I saw Donohue in Ann Arbor Michigan a few years ago and he puts on a great show.

  • Thank you!

I've never seen him live, but I would love to!
