2 questions, 1. how do you find the "latency" i don't know if i am truly using the word properly, and 2. by what percentages can you change the pitch in each direction?
@happyhappy2happy As far as latency, the DN-S3700's are pretty tight. Tight enough in fact, that I truly don't feel ANY lag using the spinning platter to manipulate tracks. I really need to upload another video showing some nastier scratches that better show off the platter. There are 4 settings for adjusting pitch. +/-6%, +/-10%, +/-16%, and +/-100%. The 6% setting is in increments of .02%. The 10% and 16% settings are in increments of .05%. The 100% setting is in increments of 1%.
nothing can still %100 alter the true joy of turntables and records however serato is awesome for me and i respect everyone who put their time on making music.
@PatMacRandal I see your point, but I disagree. I like it on the back of the player because I can insert the USB drive, then leave it out of the way. When the USB dock is on the top, the drive can get in the way and sometimes be bumped or broken.
@PatMacRandal. would you prefer it on the top like the cdj's so you can accidentally break it off halfway through a crazy gig... i think not. i own both dns and cdj, i prefer it on the back thank you.
@djslimtownsville i suspose its a matter of opinion, i have two american audio radius 2000, and multiple small memory sticks instead of hard drives, so i like to be able to swap and change quickly, for hard drives it makes sense to be fair
@djdiligence Indeed, but I wanted 4 channels, effects, and MIDI. I've got an Innofader that I was planning on dropping in the Zero4 to make it a beast :)
@1nnovate I got the Zero 4 with that as a future option...because I will probably venture into software eventually.
Other than that, the big thing was it being a 4 channel scratch mixer. Effects rock as a bonus. Plus, it's compatible with the Innofader, which makes it even more of a monster 4 channel scratch mixer.
I do not use any software right now. I am the only DJ that I know that still actually uses CDs. I do use the USB ability on the 3700s though.
CDs generally are pretty reliable, as long as you take care of them. I keep misc. stuff on the USB drives, like brand new tunes that I don't have on disc, scratch samples etc.
Only using my laptop for occasional requests, mostly using my 3700s, means high reliability. If I had an AWESOME laptop, then I'd consider Traktor.
Also, if I got Traktor, not only could I use the 3700s as spinning platter MIDI controllers, but I can use the Korg Zero4's "Traktor Ready" features....which in a nutshell pretty much means that the Zero4's built in sound card is completely seamless with Traktor.
@DJDoubleBass a dont use software ether mate a think laptop djs are shit and its a fake way of showin tallent a real dj finds the track opends the table puts the disk in finds the track then beat matches it then cues it sets it up and fires it in with control and skill thats a real dj to me other than that a would say to all the laptop djs mibi u will proove more with showin more than scrollin thro a libery.
Where can I download the scratch sounds you use?? Does anyone know the names of good sample sounds or CDs i can buy specifically for cool scratch sounds?? THANKS!
Check out DJ Vajra. He has a website, but I can't link it on here. He has a free download of some scratch samples that you can use. That's where these came from.
I gotta say that DJ Vajra is a great guy, and a great DJ.
hi, i am in need of some cdj's purely for scratching and the odd spoken word or two. Now im a bit short on money at the moment and im wondering is it possible to scratch/ spin a cd with spoken word with just one deck and a mixer for the time being, i know it sounds hell rookie but im new to this stuff.
I don't know the correct term I call it cue-start or cue-play. When mixing and you hold the cue button and your on beat, hit the play button and it continues to play from that point not stutter back to the original cue point. Does the 3700 do that? anyone
hey man, love the setup, i have the Zero4 as well, I personally believe its one of the best mixers out there, the only place where the DJM800 beats the ZERO4 in is build quality, but if the ZERO4 is cared for, im sure it'll last a long time.
Anyways the main question, I really wanted to know where you got the coffin from? Ive been searching long and hard for a case like that for my Zero4!
I don't think you tube will allow me to say, because I've tried to respond 3 times, so I'll say that the name starts with guitar and ends with center, which was local too. They price matched a place online as well. The brand is odyssey, model number FZGS12CDJW.
It's a tight fit however, so just be prepared for that. If you were to use the 1/4" booth outputs for example, it almost damages the plugs...I've purchased right angle adapters for this purpose.
I love mixing house and techno with my Zero4. There's plenty of effects for long mixes to blend with over time, filter sweeps, mild or deep flanger effects, and great isolator effects with the EQs as well.
I like having the separate effects bank set to delay, with a timing of either 3/4 or 16/16. I'll do occasional stabs with that effect using the wet/dry fader on certain accents.
That alongside the channel's effect set on flanger is also great for accents using the effect on/off switch.
That's tough. In my opinion, the Pioneer DJM700, has a better quality build (and higher price) than the Korg Zero 4, but the Korg Zero 4 has much better effects.
The closest thing that the 3700 can do to that, is the "filter" effect. There's high, mid and low filter effects to choose from, controlled by a wet/dryness knob on the player.
The mid filter can isolate mid frequencies, which gets a good bit of the vocal, but it still isolates some of the mid range music along with it. It doesn't sound exactly like a truly acapella track, but it's a cool effect to have that may get the job done.
It's from DJ Vajra's "Scratch Record For Digital DJs." It's a free zip file high quality download from his site, which routes to his myspace. It's like his vinyl scratch record that he put out, which has a drum side, and a cuts side...but digitally. The "yeah" came from one of the scratch samples on the "cuts" track.
I must add that DJ Vajra is a great DJ, and a cool guy.
On all videos i've watched they always have a mixer, i mean, cant you learn how to scratch etc with only the DN-S3700? I mean, im a beginner aswell, and i will buy some cheap shit, thou this is the cheapest i've found so far that also is used by better dj's. Please pm me if you know anything cheap or anything at all. Thanks for readin!
hey man im starting to get in to the whole DJing and scratching scene. I already have a mixer and a PA. What would I need now? I was lookin at some CD players, like the Numark AXIS 9 Tabletop. so message me with some tips. i would deff appreciate it.
i'd recommend u to get some denon 1000 or 1200, radius 1000, or if u want smtg dat'll last u long, cdj'200 or used 400's/800's.... trust me.. is started with the cdj200 and even though i cudnt scratch, they were reliable for mixing which is what i mainly do! i suck at scratch lol! here in korea...its hard to come acroos dj gear cheaply!
Dude stay away from those Numarks. I had a pair that worked fine for awhile then they quit reading cd's and skipping all the time....a nightmare! I went with the dn-s1000 which are the bomb but now I gotta have the 3700! Good luck
im using traktor pro for som time now and auto loop funtions is spot on i had ago on the 3700 for atleast 5hours and must say auto loops aint dead on but they got that adjustin bottons to perfect it i think the 3700 are the best out there without goin to extreme costs
nice scratchin mate im lookin to buy a pair of denons 3700 ive tested both 3700 and the cdj1000 and i must say the denons r much better and cheaper! im likin the bpm lock on them too and auto loops are very handy when mixin tracks with short intros
one questions can u actually save loops onto the internal hard drive? and have u had any problems wid them so far wb
I'll be honest. They have a little trouble reading MP3 discs that r just raw files. I need 2 see if they read MP3 discs easier with ITUNES or if scanned with the included software. I'll bet that if the MP3's are scanned, then it wouldn't take the occasional reloading for the 3700's to read the MP3 disc.
I use the manual looping ALL the time, and it works GREAT. The hot cues are great too, not sure about the auto looping.
Also not sure about saving loops, but maybe with a thumb drive.
I use manual looping because of mixing hiphop funk and rock which is not as consistent with BPM counters as house or "4-to-the-floor"
File searching on these players is SO fast it's SICK. The dial is an great design. Searching within a track is consistent and fast too.
THE PLATTER IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME....and is highly recommended.
I've never used the included software, but I would expect that if the tracks were put through the software first, then everything would be a bit more seamless.
their look god but piooner have made their name just like techinics ,we all know some stanton decks perform better then an 1210 , but its just the same denon vs piooner ,its to late for dennon now

I definitely agree with you my man. Pioneer's are great decks but they are over-rated and no way as good as the Denon's! Maybe if they had the spinning platter but i hear Denon owns the patent to that!

and yeah ive oned 3500, great set of players, mk3s are nice also, but i think they are way to xpensive if you look at what you get, i bought my sets @ 2006, cheap, and now they cost a arm and a leg.
i can almost buy 2, 3700 if i sell one of my mk3s *lol*

According to Denon, the DN-S3700 is "NOT Natively Supported by Serato at this time..."
But it IS:
"Natively Supported by DEX"
&
"Natively Supported by VDJ"
I heard that the 3700 DOES work with Traktor.
So between Serato and Traktor, I'd put my money on Traktor.

kickshield 2 years ago
I love mixing house and techno with my Zero4. There's plenty of effects for long mixes to blend with over time, filter sweeps, mild or deep flanger effects, and great isolator effects with the EQs as well.
I like having the separate effects bank set to delay, with a timing of either 3/4 or 16/16. I'll do occasional stabs with that effect using the wet/dry fader on certain accents.
That alongside the channel's effect set on flanger is also great for accents using the effect on/off switch.

Hey man, are you using any dj software with the zero 4? If so, which? I'm having problems midi mapping mine to virtual dj 5.2... I sure could use some help, A link, or web page that deals with mapping the zero 4 to virtual dj...

Definitely. I was close several times to getting a set of 1000s, but would cringe every time I looked at the price.
I prefer the feel of the 3700s over the 1000s any day. A turntable with spinning vinyl feel. Not to mention they're several hundred dollars less.

even thought 1000's are the club standard in the u.s and even uk i've heard... the price gave me ulcers so i rocked the 3500.
