I have to agree even though I'm a BMW guy... but Mitsubishi can thank the 4WD for the launch and victory. If they made the race 1 mile, the Evo would be beaten. I'm buying a BMW E30 325iX with 4x4 for just that reason. Yeah okay, it goes 0-60 in just about 8 seconds, but with a little change here and there, it would be a hard car to beat at the local summer dragraces. :)
Two of my friends have the E36 m3 evo and i have an Evo 5, it really is that much faster, if the M3 could get all the power to the road it might be able to keep up but the 4wd just can't be beaten!!! Kicked their ass uncountable times!! =D
MR editions didn't come out till 05+ so only the last year production 8's & 9,X's have them. i own a 8 w/300whp, my boy owns a e46m3 both are very different beasts but the tuning capabilities of the Evo are far more vast than that of any BMW not to mention the reliability and maintenance. My friends M5 cats were going bad & they quoted him 4k for each one & side mirror motor $800. his car doesnt even have 50k on it! My evo holds 140k and i've never had a problem to date.

looks like a turbo charged evo because a standard one produced 250 bhp where as an e36 m3 is either 280-321bhp, if you turbo charged the m3 you can push 1000bhp out of it no joke, type it into the search bar e36 m3 turbo
Standard GSR evo's from 4's onwards are supposedly 276bhp. They never get that, they're usually 290ish. working on the 'mlr' correction of 24% drag loss through transmission, its about 230 at the wheels.

well, the evo makes a 13.1 in the last run (which is pretty slow for a 350hp evo) and according to wikipedia the E46 with 343hp does 1/4 in 13.3 (still slower than this evo)... And the newest M3 (E90/92/93) with 420hp will do 1/4mile in 12.6 sec ... So the newest will be faster (well, depends on the driver...) but then it got more power then the evo and gets the win cuz of that ;)

It wasn't a special tuned one. Top Gear doesn't do that special tuned stuff. They didn't set out to say an Evo was better than a Lambo. The Lambo was driven by like a Brit F1 racer who was trying to shake the Evo. "Regular Evo" by who's standards? The FQ400 Evo in the UK back in 2005 was a limited edition one but it could be bought like that from the factory. They only made about 100 of them and they cost the American equivalent of around 65k. To call it "special" would be unfair since it was Mitsubishi's work. The cost between the FQ400 and an M3 is close. M3s make over 400 horses but their heavy V8s can only manage a 4.8 0-60 times.

It must have been a pretty awful driver. From a rolling start, an E46 M3 would keep up with the best of the Evo's, let alone a standard 270bhp one. Evo's are big boxes and have huge turbo's, M3's have twin inlet timing through Vanos past 3,000RPM and again at around 6,000RPM, so if you think you could beat an E46 from a 60mph start, think again! Nice run though...
just like i shouldn't by horsepower means be able to beat subaru STi's with 30 more bhp and mustang GT's with 32 more bhp than i, however, in the real world there is a lot more that goes into a car than just hp (like gearing and weight). for instance my 1/4 mile trap speed which is faster than both of those cars as well as an m3. sti 97 to 99 new mustang gt 100 and m3 also 100, yet in my evo i pull 102... stock. although none of these cars were driven by professional drivers mine was not either

Standard GSR evo's from 4's onwards are supposedly 276bhp. They never get that, they're usually 290ish. working on the 'mlr' correction of 24% drag loss through transmission, its about 230 at the wheels.

LOL, its a Evo 6 from -99-00 and BMW M3 E46 was made from -01 to -07... The Evo kicks the M3's ass in this clip because of 3 different things.

well, the evo makes a 13.1 in the last run (which is pretty slow for a 350hp evo) and according to wikipedia the E46 with 343hp does 1/4 in 13.3 (still slower than this evo)... And the newest M3 (E90/92/93) with 420hp will do 1/4mile in 12.6 sec ... So the newest will be faster (well, depends on the driver...) but then it got more power then the evo and gets the win cuz of that ;)

I always thought the early m3's, the 3.0 ones, were 286ps (282 bhp), and the later m3 evo's, the 3.2, were 320 ps (316 bhp).........please correct me if im wrong and maybe link me to your source of information, becasue ive owned an m3evo and im 99% sure they are 316 bhp, although most people get this wrong and say 320bhp. But ive never heard 340bhp lol

Well your dead on wit what your sayin about early m3's and m3evo with 280hp an 320hp but thats in relation to the e36 shape, when i said 340hp i was talkin about the e46 m3 which came out in 2000 with 6speed smg (animal!) but that was in respone to Deej who was talkin about the e92 m3 shape with its v8 and 415hp which is to big n heavy for my liking and is gone too into m5 territory...,but back to the video i now realise it is an e36m3 with 320brake or in your case 316bhp. my rant seems to be

It wasn't a special tuned one. Top Gear doesn't do that special tuned stuff. They didn't set out to say an Evo was better than a Lambo. The Lambo was driven by like a Brit F1 racer who was trying to shake the Evo. The fact that the Lambo spun out trying to pull away from the super computerized steering of the Evo is pretty ridiculous considering the price.

"Regular Evo" by who's standards? The FQ400 Evo in the UK back in 2005 was a limited edition one but it could be bought like that from the factory. They only made about 100 of them and they cost the American equivalent of around 65k. To call it "special" would be unfair since it was Mitsubishi's work. The cost between the FQ400 and an M3 is close. M3s make over 400 horses but their heavy V8s can only manage a 4.8 0-60 times.
He never says anything was done to it because nothing was.

You cant touch an M3 in a curcut race. M3s wer not made to go down the strip. They do o-to-60 in 5.2 pkus that M3 in the vid is an e36 wich means its about 10 years or older. Not bad considering that evo is a lot newer. Now try butting that evo against a newer M3. 2001-to-2007 M3s have 333HP and the all new e92 M3 has 414HP. think about it.

Sorry sir, but in this case you are wrong. You are probably one of those foreign pieces of shit, that think a car is only fast when it can outrun the other in a straight line. BMW are track cars, not hey lets put max horsepower to the tires so that it can run the quarter mile in 12 seconds. Also, even with being made for the track, the 08 M3 has a faster time than the EVO, both stock in the quarter mile. Look up your cars, and know them before you talk again. It must have been a pretty awful driver. From a rolling start, an E46 M3 would keep up with the best of the Evo's, let alone a standard 270bhp one. Evo's are big boxes and have huge turbo's, M3's have twin inlet timing through Vanos past 3,000RPM and again at around 6,000RPM, so if you think you could beat an E46 from a 60mph start, think again! Nice run though...

just like i shouldn't by horsepower means be able to beat subaru STi's with 30 more bhp and mustang GT's with 32 more bhp than i, however, in the real world there is a lot more that goes into a car than just hp (like gearing and weight). for instance my 1/4 mile trap speed which is faster than both of those cars as well as an m3. sti 97 to 99 new mustang gt 100 and m3 also 100, yet in my evo i pull 102... stock. although none of these cars were driven by professional drivers mine was not either

Now if you bring up the new Nissan GT-R that does 0-60mph in 3.5 sec and cost the same as a Vette.

actually i wasted an e46 m3 on the highway in my bone stock 03 evoVIII, and i didn't just buy my car for the performance. i bought it for everything about, from the interior (which many people seem to hate) to the brembo's, 271 bhp, awd (becuase i like to drive in snow), and even the exterior look of it. all in all if i could have one car and one car only for the rest of my life it would be my evo, without question... but thats just my opinion

The E46 has 333 HP in the US version.
I doubt you would win over it with a good driver.
Perhaps it could happen , the EVO is a very good car.
I think I meant the E90 though , which is the new 420 HP M3 with a V8.
In any case if I most people could chose between and M3 and and EVO , most would pick the M3.
It has the pedigree and prestige and excellent quality.
EVO is good but still seen as a jap ricer by most.

i know you were talking about the e90, i just made the reference to the e46 because of this vid. also that just goes to show that most people dont know much about cars, by my account at least i have been seeing many m3's rolling around almost to the point where many people in my area are starting to consider them the "new civic". and by that i mean relatively cheap and many are getting "riced" out by body kits and large atrocious looking chrome wheels and excessively large aluminum spoilers.
