One of the very few bands that I can say I like every song they have written. These guys are so underrated it should be considered a crime. Those of you that got to see them perform live are very lucky.
@YodaVanGrindey95 Fair enough mate, and you will get one in time if you want it bad enough. Don't write off the SG though - I wanted the custom for years, got it eventually and found it heavy as a sack of spuds (Scott Gorhams description - thats why he favours a strat now apparently) and you can't reach the upper frets properly without being Gary Moore (RIP). I'm with Angus when it comes to the SG. Just a thought ;)
great to watch the good stuff....i must say...i was lookin' for a single malt behind the bar.....make mine a triple, and another for phil....ohh yea, tell the blond cunt to fuck off...still milkin' the thin lizzy name....john sucks..not sykes....no respect...
Sykes and Gorham were awesome together. Wish they had more albums together. Phil was a genius. From Little Girl in Bloom to ass kickers like this and Thunder & Lightning.
The pub is The Dog in Bearwood, but is the program Chris Tarrant's Saturday Stayback. i Thought it was from O.T.T the short lived TISWAS for adults knock off (which used to feature Malcolm Hardee's 'balloon dance')?.
Damn that looks like Dave Mustaine on guitar. But seriously, John Sykes is a superb player and he alone made Whitesnake into the great band that they became. Gotta say though, the tapping part of this solo sounds like Van Halen's Eruption.
@carakenio thats john sykes not fuckin mustaine, lol, yeah he does look similar but metallica were only breaking through when this was performed in 83,not bein nasty or offensive just stating fact dude
as soon as i heard the intro i was like "holy shit thats heavy" but i guess the static made it abit more heavier then normal. but who cares Thin Lizzy Fucking Rules
They look like some pirates who invade someones house just to play. That was the shit!!! Didn't kids have more enthusiasm back in those days? Maybe they were all just scared.
When ROCK music was performed by grown MEN not little a bunch of College frat boys with baseball caps, matchstick legs with stamps all over them who take it up the ARSE like a bunch o bitches!
@boltonox Never a truer word was spoken !!! I was born in Belfast and saw lizzy live - fucking amazing. Pity the stuff around now can't decide to be a "Rockier" (???) version of Gaga or that Bieber twat.
Rock like this will Never die or be forgotten ! God Bless Thin Lizzy.
@1mwaring Mate i envy you. I wish i had seen them when they played at the Opera house in Sydney. I rate them one of the top 5 Rock bands in the history of music but because they wernt around that long and because they wernt mainstream well known in America, they've always been SUPER underated. In fact i rate both Thin Lizzy and Blondie as the 2 most underated rock bands ever. I actually got into playing guitar just from the LOOK of the album cover of Thin Lizzy! Hadnt even heard the album yet!
@franer84 I mean't WEARING baggy shorts on stage and SHOWING off their match stick legs. Skinny legs look cool if your a guitarist or singer wearing skinny jeans or leathers or stove pipes. Not baggy knee length camo shorts! It Creates the "CHICKEN DRUMSTICK" effect.
@Shamefulbehaviour Yeah sure there is, but are they any GOOD is the real question? Most young bands today are just a weak imatation of a classic Rock bands from the 70's and 80's with people who are only average at best at playing their instrument and only capale of playing very simple pop music. If you know of a GOOD one let me know ok. The only BAND ive seen in the last few years who i think are the real deal is British band, Kasabian. Most bands today are just nerdy dweebs trying to BE cool.
It was filmed at The Dog Pub in Bearwood near Birmingham. It was on a Chris Tarrent late night programme called saturday night stayback. There used to be a much better copy of this, but was sadly removed for copywrite. ( longer and far better sound)

Fucking classic! I remember watching this on the TV (live) all those years ago and was blown away. From what I remember, Frank Carsen (an Irish comdedian) introduced the band and purposely fucked up the name; hence Lynott pissing himself laughing at the very beginning :)
I always thought Sykes' heavy metal guitar wasn't right for Lizzy - this band was all about contrasts and subtleties whereas this is (admittedly good) NWOBHM inspired.
@manguy2000 i meant to vote down the comment above yours and accidentally clicked yours hahahaha. but yes, Lynott is indeed Rock in its entirety, I agree 100%
I's funny that Zakk Wylde never mentions John Sykes as an influence, saying that he got the artificial harmonics thing from aham, ZZ Top. Like they say "the key to being original is hiding your sources".
@BDarOZ I was thinking the exact same thing! you would think he would mention sykes, they sound so similar. I was like "where have i heard that scale before?....oh yeah zakk wylde".
