  • congragulations. i have downloaded this to my computer as an mp3. then bluetooth over to the phone. you will now be heard when i drive my car and maybe even as a ringtone. this was magical.

  • @snickledoosh Wow, never thought this piece would travel that far! :)))

Thanks mate! This tune is a jewel, probably my uber-favourite in Andy's collection. I personally feel the magic when I play it.

  • may i say....unreal!

    thanks your very talented

  • Just simply... amazing, beautiful, sensational.

  • This is just amazing.. I'm a HUGE fan of Andy, and I'm currently teaching myself this song (on the guitar though).

Just wanted to say that this is a beautiful arrangement, with a minor note, not necessarily a negative one: obviously, the general melody is the same. This version is altered so much though, that it can't really be compared to andy's! This is way more classically influenced, in my opinion.

I'd really love to see you cover For My Father!

    Alex

  • @LinkedGuitar Hey, mate. Thanks for the praise. I obviously tranlate the tunes to the piano adding my own personal flavour. I try not to mimic people (who could honestly compare themselves to Andy ?!?) I'm the borrowing kind, I guess. Plus, it's very hard to put the same kind of feeling since the piano is so much less versatile than the guitar. So I adapt to what I have the best I can.

I've had numerous requests for For my Father. I'll give it a try some day if I have time. Thanks again. ;)

  • @iamsecksy

    where do I find that?

  • @kelsivogel Candyrat website, dear. They have tons of Tabs. I have so little time to make a tutorial...Argh. :( But I'll make one, though... some day.

  • @freddh2 Or Andy's website, for that matter. I believe you can get tabs from there too. The guy deserves it. :)))

  • One of the most beautiful things i have ever heard

  • I would love to learn this on the piano... where can I find the sheet music?

  • @kelsivogel There's none, actually. OK, I'll make a tutorial video for this one. ;)

  • @freddh2 where can i find the tutorial video?

  • @kelsivogel

If you buy the official Guitar TAB, it comes with the sheet music too... only $2.

  • ok i know people are going to hate on me for this but here goes:

Andy Mckee is my hero, but this song I actually like more on piano. ok there i said it.

  • @ZacVrono Ah! Ah! Don't worry, mate. Andy and all the Hedges followers are the living symbol of open-mindedness. I'm honoured that you should like the cover that much. Andy rules! ;)

  • Fred you are definitely the man...Your version of Andy's "DreamCatcher" is absolutely fantastic!! I do wish you could provide the (Piano Tuto) as you did for the Rylynn song. That was very helpful and since I love DreamCatcher it would be fantastic to get that as well if you can find the time. Keep up the wholehearted works and I'll be awaiting your next tunes :-)... Skip

  • @videos4now Hey mate. I will definitely make a tutorial for Dreamcatcher some day. I don't have much time for music these days, but I owe it to you and all the people who liked my covers and expressed their friendship. Meeting Andy a couple of weeks ago made me want to do some new stuff, definitely. Thanks for the awesome support. ;)

  • Oh my gosh. *totally jealous* I wish I could do cross instrument transposing. This is amazing...

  • Come on Fred, get recording some fresh recordings mate. Can`t be resting on your laurels.

  • @antevans1 ah! ah! lmao, mate! I wish I had time. I haven't even touched my piano for about 3 weeks. You can't even imagine how frustrating this is. It's been ages since I last recorded something. :(

Thanks for your support, anyway. You have no idea how touched I am. :)

  • honestly dude, you totally captured this piece just as good and with as much emotion as andy, you really made it your own, i was expecting this to be bad cause i dont like andy's songs on piano typically but for real nice work man very impressed and happy you made this :)

    -isaac

  • @Isaac9606 Thanks mate. Real nice comment that goes straight to the heart. I really love that piece, it's probably my favourite by Andy and I'm happy you can feel it. ;)

  • @Kar1zMaLex Thanks my friend. I don't post often, unfortunately for lack of time. But I'll be happy to oblige you and upload more stuff whenever I have time. Meanwhile, I'll go see the master himself on stage. That should boost inspiration! :D

  • That was really cool...

  • i love when people talk about which is easier between guitar and piano.lol this song is wayyy easier on guitar.lol

  • @rallyraceface I guess they are into the wrong debate. They'd rather wonder what instrument they are more proficient at. Personally, I suck at guitar, so I find it easier on the piano, ah! ah! But in my wildest dreams, I play this on the guitar and it rocks my socks. In my next life, I guess... ;)

  • fantastic

  • Amazing... I was really hoping that someone would do a cover of it in Piano, and presto! Thank you!

  • Hey this is very nice. Great job man. No plans of making piano sheets out of this? I've been finding piano sheets for this song for weeks.... =(

  • you show so much feeling when you play! at the end there you stop and let the notes settle in kinda apreciating your work i do that all the time on my guitar! when you get a feeling kinda like exhaustion after you play a song you know its good hehe i feel that way after i play really well at least. but thats what makes me stop and apreciate what i just did. anyway awesome job man i loved it!

  • @wingostrat Yeah, such a good feeling. With this tune, I feel like I'm floating in the air... When I play technical stuff, I do it for the sake of work (so to speak). When I play for fun, I like to appreciate the music I play. Dreamcatcher comes straight from the heart. Keep rocking out, mate. Thanks for the nice comment.

  • @freddh2 I can see that are very well versed in both piano, guitar, and maybe bass. I think you could be a spectacular artist, and I thank you for sharing your music and covers. And I would like to make request to you. Would you please be kind enough to do covers of some of Dax Johnson's songs. He is my idol and I'm curious as to see how would compose his pieces. Keep up with the beautiful music out there in the world and play your heart out. Thank you and bye-bye.

  • what scales is this in please?? oh and amazing playing

  • amazing man...

i'm trying to learn some of his music on guitar, thought i could learn by watching the piano cover xD

    couldn't do it though

  • @thatrastakid It's super-hard. I wish I could even begin to try and play that on the guitar. In my next life, I guess ;)

  • Hell of a cover, well done

  • As much as I love guitar, you have convinced me this is a piano song!

  • @lostprophet912 You're very kind. This is definitely my favourite cover to play. Most people love Rylynn better, but I believe this piece deserves more credit. Some of Andy's songs are impossible to translate to the piano. This one is the ideal tune, like it was made for the piano. However, I still looooove Andy's version, can't get enough of it!!! :)

  • @freddh2 i absolutely AGREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Every time I watch your piano covers of any acoustic fingerstyle piece, it gives me mixed feelings. It makes me jealous of the tonality of the piano. At the same time it makes me appreciate the beauty of both. When you get time in the future, could you post a new cover/original piece? Anything will do really, I just need to hear more of your material!

  • If andy mckee agreed to it, you could really sell this to a director or something. All i feel when i hear this is that romantic feelgood climax moments toward the end of those sorta films. Its an incredible guitar piece. And its just as good on piano. 5/5.

  • amazing version of this beautiful track, one of my favourites to play on guitar, you have managed to do the original such justice!

  • It's incredible how you can make this song fit the piano so well, great playing!

  • Hey! Well done! :)

  • I return here often. Beautiful playing. You make it sing. Hoping you're well, Helen

  • @Dracapalley Howdy! Being a fan of yours, I'm always touched by your kind words. And I'm always on the lookout for new music on your page. It's such a delight each time! Everyday, I cherish the wonder of Youtube which allowed us simple people to discover each other's passion. Take care, my dear Helen.

    -Frederic

  • awesome job

  • LOVE this!!!

would really be awesome if you would do a tutorial as suggested. :) :)

would love to learn to play this song :)

(cant read sheet music though :(

  • C'est vraiment magnifique ! Vous êtes un très bon pianiste !

  • @Coeurdebiche Merci ! ;) J'ai quelques années de piano derrière moi, forcément... mais c'est à la portée de tout le monde avec un peu d'effort. Content que ça t'ait plu.

  • hey remember me, i was the guy who asked if you were willing to make a tutorial on this piece a while back. i would still very much like to learn this song on the piano. i would go find the musc but i cant read sheet music (lol). if you just had the camera at a downword angle on the keys and played the piece at half speed i would be able to learn it just fine. and after learning it i could post my own video to see what you think :)

  • @sukotto7 oops, posted twice somehow.

  • @sukotto7 Hey my friend. I haven't forgotten about you. I've just had no time at all to do any of the tutorials I promised yeaaaars ago. Shame on me. Nut I might have found some time in the next few weeks to do that, so stay tuned, just in case. No promises, though, but it's on my to-do list, anyway. Take care ;)

  • awesome

  • you are good man... you should be in the candyrat and record some songs like this...

  • What is that piano you play? Really can't place it, doesn't look like Yamaha!?

  • @Dracapalley Hey Helen. It actually IS a Yamaha. P120 to be precise. I've tried quite a few before buying, and this one was the nicest touch I encountered. At least, it's as close as you can get to the real thing these days - although there's still room for improvement :). I really love it!

  • Thanks for visiting my videos again... gave me the opportunity to track down your channel once more and enjoy your wonderful playing again. This is absolutely gorgeous. All of it's sublime, but that little catch between 0:35 - 0:40 makes me melt.

  • Sounds so beautiful on piano. I listen to this everyday... amazing. Cheers from Argentina, you're great.

  • cheers man... nice. That was actually a better recording than the drifting vid where you could hear the key taps. You're well talented.

  • Thanks! The Drifting vid was more like... for fun. A little challenge triggered by another Youtuber.

With Dreamcatcher, I feel more comfortable :)

  • Very interesting. Yes, the touch looks amazing. We have a Yamaha Clavinova which is pretty much like the feel of a piano but your keys look even more so. Thanks for letting me know :0)

    Fred.

  • Hy Fred,

    You're a fantastic player.

I feel you man, i feel you!!!

It's a very nice piano sound by the way...

    Which piano is it?

    Greets from Belgium!!

  • Thanks mate. It's a Yamaha P-120. It's been replaced by a newer version, now. I love it. Yamaha offers the best keyboards in terms of touch, I think. But I guess it's a matter of taste. So as for the sounds, the piano samples are mind-blowing...

    Cheers from France ;)

    - Peace

  • Fucking Hails Man

    Q: )

    Top class Stuff

    Hails from Brazil

    JP

  • Thanks, mate. ;)

    Keep rocking out!

  • Such a good bless to have great ear senses like you to be able to play this :)

I love the small lamp on your keyboard, it';s cute :P haha

  • Yeah, I like playing in the middle of the night. The lamp gives the sorta candle light atmosphere you need to play Andy.

It's not the best of places, but the wire's too short! :D

    Thanks for stopping by :)

  • This guy is awesome! I wish I could play like him!

  • Give yourself a little time. You'll see... ;)

Thanks for the praise and for stopping by.

  • Thanks. You're really nice.

  • well here I am sitting in front of my piano with my iPod on thinking Im going to spend the next few hours translating Andy McKees "Dreamcatcher" and all of a sudden I find this video of you already playing it... well needless to say that pretty much ruined it for me. So Id like to ask you for a favor. Would you mind playing it just a bit slower and at an angle where I can see your fingers properly? Id really love to learn how to play this, but I cant read sheet music. What doya say?

  • I'll try to. Really sorry for ruining your day :)

  • haha, it didnt ruin my day. i just wanted to be the first to translate the song. i would call it a buzz kill, but you play it very well and i would love to learn it your way.

  • very nice dude :)

    sounds pretty sweet on piano

    5 stars :)

  • i've heard this song so many times, and never once thought how well it would translate to piano... and you've done it so well. thanks for the really, really great upload! and i don't comment on peoples' videos often ^^

  • That really is fantastic, a really really nice performance.

Nice to see it adapted to the piano too and you have done a brilliant job.

    Keep it up:)

  • Thanks. People make a lot of requests, but not everything translates so easily to another instrument.

Andy's such a master of his art that you're always afraid you'd spoil the whole thing!

Thanks for your support. It's greatly appreciated.

  • Woah. Your playing style is great and the translation is perfect. Kudos to you, this is terrific.

  • Thanks a lot. I'm glad you liked it :)

  • I'm very impressed! great translation and great way of playing it is like you caress the keyboard... :-)

  • i love ur videos! make more please!

  • Fantastico!!

  • imagine some violins in the background...wow!

  • This is fantastic. I never even thought of how well it translates to piano.

  • How much elegance in one

    interpretation! Congratulations Fred!

  • wow i must learn this one at piano, sounds better than guitar

  • AMAZING.

  • it's absolutely amaizing ! both versions ,andy's and yours sounds beautiful . thanks for this kind of music :)

  • You're welcome and thank YOU

  • Wow! I'm a huge Andy fan, and I have to say you did a lovely job with this.

It does adapt well to the piano. Well done my friend.

  • Thanks a lot.

  • Sounds great

  • WOW! So great....

  • great version of a great song!

    nice job!

  • thanks!

  • Insane! Love it.

  • I'm happy then. I guess it was worth shooting.

  • Soooooooo good

  • You're too kind.

  • That was Awesome!

  • Glad you liked it ;)

  • Bravo, absolutely wonderful, 5 stars.

  • thank you!

  • any way to get the sheet music? I've been trying to play this by ear but have lost my.....touch.

  • I'll try to make a tutorial. It's not that hard to play. There are simply a trick or two.

  • Keep trying, davidlynnesch. "Practice makes perfect"

  • im so in love with this, i listen to it like 200 times a day <333

  • Beautiful.

  • Love the adaption from 0:35-0:45.

The dynamics in your version are also amazing... please do more! :D

  • Beyond awesome. Absolutely beautiful. I'm at a loss for words.

  • EXCELENTE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice! Very very cool!

  • Brilliant!

  • Really really fluent, nice playing!

Being a pianist myself, I love when players are really 'musical' and not 'mathematical'.

You should play this on a steinway with light action.

This keyboard has a particularly good piano sound, but nothing can top a natural instruments' sound.

    Again, terrific playing.

  • I wish I could play on a grand. I have none around, unfortunately.

Yet, to post vids on the Tube, the best sound quality comes (unfortunately) from digital stuff. To get good sound recording with a true piano, you need bloody good microphones and a killer sound engineer!

Check the same video on myspace. You'll get the stereo sound. It's a nice improvement compared to this version...

Thanks for the nice comment and the support.

  • Your fingers are ghostly! They move so fluently.

  • Lots of classical playing when I was young...

  • It seems to have worked for you

  • What would Andy McKee think about this? He'd have to be amazed.

  • Maybe not amazed, but he appreciated the effort. He's a cool guy, and very enthusiastic. Don and Brooke left a couple of comments here and there on my vids too. This was very nice from them.

I guess these covers are our way of showing respect and they know it.

    Thanks for the nice comment.

  • MAN, GREAT JOB. ITS BETTER THAN MY OWN GUITAR VERSION. HAHA!

Really nice. thanks for sharing it.

  • We all cover this song our own way. None is necessarily "better" than the other. The simple fact we all do it means we have the same taste for good music!!!

    Let's make a club!

  • sounds beatifull...!

makes me wanna learn how to play again :D

    great job fred

  • adapting is fine as long as it honors the original. yours does so it was a bliss to hear. good stuff, perhaps more later :P ?

  • Music could be so beautiful that your heart seems to stop beating.

Greetings to the beautiful france ;)

  • For My Father? :P

  • Stopped by for a fresh listen. Man, I almost have all the guitar parts down and play it over this and it just sounds breathtaking. In fact I'm not sure there is a good enough adjective to describe how beautiful it is. Your arrangement is more incredible than I once thought. :) I really can play it well but don't have the recording, editing stuff down yet. I love this video!!!!

  • 5/5 and fav :)

  • man, such a nice arrangement. I just finished listen to your rendition of "rylynn" and now this. They're both awesome btw...more Andy's cover, I want more lol, anyway, 5* of course

  • wow thats just great 5*

  • Thanks!

  • Wow! you have amazing talent my friend!.Have you ever thought about doing one of Andy Mckee's more faster songs?,like Art of motion or Common ground?

  • I've thought about Art of Motion, but the result is not as good as I wish. I'd need to work properly on it, train, practice riffs, which I don't really have time to do. But that's a great one and maybe if ever I have time, I'll do it properly and record it.

I started playing Tight Trite Night by Don Ross ages ago by never had time to make a video of it. Now it's been so long that I'd have to start again from scratch I guess.

I'd like to shoot some Dufour too, if ever I have some holidays...

  • If you were to have a duet with a guitarist, the guitar would be the accompaniment. Wonderful, very FULL version of Andy Mckee's "Dreamcatcher."

  • It's a nice tune to play on the piano. Just as relaxing. I'd love to hear a duet (guitar + piano) of this tune...

  • Interesting to hear this on piano, it fits beautifully. Congratulations, it sounds amazing.

  • Thanks a lot

  • oh come'on , i've been waiting for this piece's sheets for so long , and now your going to make sth. else ? Thats not faire!!!!!!!!!!! please finish at first the sheets for Dreamcatcher.....pleeeeaaase...

  • OK, OK. I've been working on it...

  • i have this under my favorites, i just LOVE it. i think i've already commented a couple times... but seriously you've done a great job. i like this song more than the orginial! :)

  • That's very nice. The tune is awesome and I really felt I could do something with it. I'm really happy that some people should like this version so much.

Your praise goes straight to the heart.

  • you're simply wonderful!!!!

    congratulations!!!!

it's really an original idea transpose this masterpiece from guitar to keyboard...and your result is great!

I love this piece and i'm attempting to learrn it with my guitar!!!

  • Grazie mille.

Hope you get to post a video when you're finished. Dreamcatcher is an extroardinary tune. Sends me flying. The title definitely suits the atmosphere of the song. I hope you'll enjoy yourself as much as I did playing it !!!

    Ciao di Francia

    -Fred

  • A familar masterpiece forged by another genius.

P.S. I hope you can make an acoustic piano verson of this cover, I would die to see that.

  • So would I !!!

    ah! ah!

    I wish I had a grand around...

If ever I do, I'll make sure I have the camera with me ;-)

  • OMG awesome, then I can't wait then. I hope it comes soon ^_^. ty for commenting back, you rarely see authors comment back now a days, especially the talented ones.

  • I have to say that in this world only a few things turn me speechless. There is a better word for this than AWESOME? I mean the facility with you move your fingers is magic. I wish I could be like you someday, seriously.

PS: Im sorry for my english, couse im from chile, south america, Im not very well.

  • Muchas gracias hermano.

  • Correccion :

    Muchas gracias hermana...

No habia visto tu pagina ;-)

  • that is a nice spanish you have there, where are you from? btw i love your rylynn cover, as well as this one, your work is great, keep it on

  • Thanks a lot.

I'm French, I teach English, but I hardly ever get to practice my spanish. Requires more efforts than I'd like. It's time to set up a trip to Spain, I guess. XD

Thanks for stopping by. Maybe next summer I'll have time to shot and post more vids you might like.

  • i know it is hard to learn spanish, though it is my natural language ( i am from argentina)... if you are going to post more videos of these candyrat artists, maybe you should try doing dufour covers

  • Being French help a lot to learn spanish. We have common roots... ;-)

I have thought about doing Dufour tunes several times. But many of his songs are very difficult to reproduce and transpose to another instrument. I'll give it a try though. I also have a couple of Don Ross's tunes to shoot. If ever I have time to, that is...

  • still loving this-- well done!

  • Great playing. Im a guitarist but a piano novice. Im going to follow your example. Favorited.

  • You should add some new videos, you really have a talent that should be shared.

  • That's very nice. I wish I had time to. But I work far too much and I hate doing things in a rush. I just hope someday my life slows down a bit and I'll record stuff again.

Thanks a lot for stopping by

    -Fred

  • I've commented before on how beautiful this arrangement is. I wanted to say this time that you've hit the nail on the head with "doing things in a rush". I wonder what people are thinking when they post stuff sometimes. Some is just plain bad but a good majority of them are "rushed". The talent is there but it lacks finesse. I would never post something that I didn't feel was absolutely perfect. Especially when doing a cover. Perfection pays the highest regards to the original artist!

  • Thanks a lot for this comment. I have nothing to add. You've got it right from A to Z.

I guess in our days people tend to privilege quantity over quality. A pity, really...

  • wow......wow.....I am really speechless. That was beautiful man. Andy would be very proud to hear his song played just as beautifully as he plays it

  • Thanks, mate. I'm glad you liked what you heard. Thanks for such nice feedback.

I did my best to keep the spirit of peace that comes out of the tune. I'm damn sure Andy's happy about all the people following his footsteps. He's a cool guy.

  • ^_^ This is beautiful!

Can you try the piano version of Dreamcatcher by Secret Garden too? That would be beautiful with your talent! *o*

    Awesome work! *is envious*

  • Shame on me, didn't know Secret Garden...

I just listened to the live version on Youtube and the song's beautiful indeed, but I'd rather hear it with the strings and uillean pipes. The song has a dimension which is hard to reach with a solo instrument...

Thanks for making me discover an excellent band. I'll dig further into their music.

  • Truly Amazing work. You get everything right... Mckee's emotion is what makes his music.

  • Absolutely amazing...I listen to this mp3 daily. Any idea when you will get the tutorial up? I'm dying to learn how to play this song!!

  • Brilliant, you've captured the meaning of the song perfectly. The inner rest of Andy's version now flows out of the piano thanks to you.

    Music thanks you.

  • You're too kind. But it's true that I play this tune more often than any other. It brings me peace. I really love it. I'm happy you liked it. Thanks.

  • If i could play half as well as you i would be well pleased, i bet you get a real buzz everytime you sit in front of that keyboard...big respect.... nice 1,superb adaptation once again, so relaxed with it, amazing rythm 2, 11/10

  • Amazing man! Have you thought about doing "For my Father"? Im sure you would do an amazing version of this aswell!

  • this is beautifull!

it is so fluent i love it *w*

    you are amazing great job!

  • I absolutely love your passion for playing these songs. I love to play Andys songs on the guitar, but hearing you play them on the piano like this gives me so much more appreciation for them.

    Thank you... keep it up!

  • Goes straight to the heart. Thanks, mate.
