This is just amazing.. I'm a HUGE fan of Andy, and I'm currently teaching myself this song (on the guitar though).
Just wanted to say that this is a beautiful arrangement, with a minor note, not necessarily a negative one: obviously, the general melody is the same. This version is altered so much though, that it can't really be compared to andy's! This is way more classically influenced, in my opinion.
@LinkedGuitar Hey, mate. Thanks for the praise. I obviously tranlate the tunes to the piano adding my own personal flavour. I try not to mimic people (who could honestly compare themselves to Andy ?!?) I'm the borrowing kind, I guess. Plus, it's very hard to put the same kind of feeling since the piano is so much less versatile than the guitar. So I adapt to what I have the best I can.
I've had numerous requests for For my Father. I'll give it a try some day if I have time. Thanks again. ;)
@kelsivogel Candyrat website, dear. They have tons of Tabs. I have so little time to make a tutorial...Argh. :( But I'll make one, though... some day.

Fred you are definitely the man...Your version of Andy's "DreamCatcher" is absolutely fantastic!! I do wish you could provide the (Piano Tuto) as you did for the Rylynn song. That was very helpful and since I love DreamCatcher it would be fantastic to get that as well if you can find the time. Keep up the wholehearted works and I'll be awaiting your next tunes :-)... Skip
@videos4now Hey mate. I will definitely make a tutorial for Dreamcatcher some day. honestly dude, you totally captured this piece just as good and with as much emotion as andy, you really made it your own, i was expecting this to be bad cause i dont like andy's songs on piano typically but for real nice work man very impressed and happy you made this :)
@Isaac9606 Thanks mate. Real nice comment that goes straight to the heart. I really love that piece, it's probably my favourite by Andy and I'm happy you can feel it. ;)

@wingostrat Yeah, such a good feeling. With this tune, I feel like I'm floating in the air... When I play technical stuff, I do it for the sake of work (so to speak). @freddh2 I can see that are very well versed in both piano, guitar, and maybe bass. I think you could be a spectacular artist, and I thank you for sharing your music and covers. And I would like to make request to you. Would you please be kind enough to do covers of some of Dax Johnson's songs. He is my idol and I'm curious as to see how would compose his pieces. Keep up with the beautiful music out there in the world and play your heart out. Thank you and bye-bye.
@lostprophet912 You're very kind. This is definitely my favourite cover to play. Most people love Rylynn better, but I believe this piece deserves more credit. Some of Andy's songs are impossible to translate to the piano. This one is the ideal tune, like it was made for the piano. However, I still looooove Andy's version, can't get enough of it!!! :)
Every time I watch your piano covers of any acoustic fingerstyle piece, it gives me mixed feelings. It makes me jealous of the tonality of the piano. At the same time it makes me appreciate the beauty of both. When you get time in the future, could you post a new cover/original piece? Anything will do really, I just need to hear more of your material!
If andy mckee agreed to it, you could really sell this to a director or something. All i feel when i hear this is that romantic feelgood climax moments toward the end of those sorta films. Its an incredible guitar piece. And its just as good on piano. 5/5.
@Dracapalley Howdy! Being a fan of yours, I'm always touched by your kind words. And I'm always on the lookout for new music on your page. It's such a delight each time! @sukotto7 Hey my friend. I haven't forgotten about you. I've just had no time at all to do any of the tutorials I promised yeaaaars ago. Shame on me. @Dracapalley Hey Helen. It actually IS a Yamaha. P120 to be precise. I've tried quite a few before buying, and this one was the nicest touch I encountered. At least, it's as close as you can get to the real thing these days - although there's still room for improvement :). I really love it!
Thanks for visiting my videos again... gave me the opportunity to track down your channel once more and enjoy your wonderful playing again. This is absolutely gorgeous. All of it's sublime, but that little catch between 0:35 - 0:40 makes me melt.
Very interesting. Yes, the touch looks amazing. We have a Yamaha Clavinova which is pretty much like the feel of a piano but your keys look even more so. Thanks for letting me know :0)
Thanks mate. It's a Yamaha P-120. It's been replaced by a newer version, now. I love it. Yamaha offers the best keyboards in terms of touch, I think. But I guess it's a matter of taste. So as for the sounds, the piano samples are mind-blowing...
well here I am sitting in front of my piano with my iPod on thinking Im going to spend the next few hours translating Andy McKees "Dreamcatcher" and all of a sudden I find this video of you already playing it... well needless to say that pretty much ruined it for me. So Id like to ask you for a favor. Would you mind playing it just a bit slower and at an angle where I can see your fingers properly? Id really love to learn how to play this, but I cant read sheet music. What doya say?
haha, it didnt ruin my day. i just wanted to be the first to translate the song. i would call it a buzz kill, but you play it very well and i would love to learn it your way.
On n'a pas la profondeur de la guitare d'Andy (en particulier la Fan-fretted, hallucinante), mais je crois que c'est de loin le morceau qui passe le mieux d'un instrument à l'autre. J'adore le jouer, c'est un délice.
i've heard this song so many times, and never once thought how well it would translate to piano... and you've done it so well. thanks for the really, really great upload! and i don't comment on peoples' videos often ^^
I wish I could play on a grand. I have none around, unfortunately.
Yet, to post vids on the Tube, the best sound quality comes (unfortunately) from digital stuff. To get good sound recording with a true piano, you need bloody good microphones and a killer sound engineer!
Check the same video on myspace. You'll get the stereo sound. It's a nice improvement compared to this version...
Maybe not amazed, but he appreciated the effort. He's a cool guy, and very enthusiastic. Don and Brooke left a couple of comments here and there on my vids too. This was very nice from them.
I guess these covers are our way of showing respect and they know it.
We all cover this song our own way. None is necessarily "better" than the other. The simple fact we all do it means we have the same taste for good music!!!
Stopped by for a fresh listen. Man, I almost have all the guitar parts down and play it over this and it just sounds breathtaking. In fact I'm not sure there is a good enough adjective to describe how beautiful it is. Your arrangement is more incredible than I once thought. :) I really can play it well but don't have the recording, editing stuff down yet. I love this video!!!!
man, such a nice arrangement. I just finished listen to your rendition of "rylynn" and now this. They're both awesome btw...more Andy's cover, I want more lol, anyway, 5* of course
I've thought about Art of Motion, but the result is not as good as I wish. I'd need to work properly on it, train, practice riffs, which I don't really have time to do. But that's a great one and maybe if ever I have time, I'll do it properly and record it.
I started playing Tight Trite Night by Don Ross ages ago by never had time to make a video of it. Now it's been so long that I'd have to start again from scratch I guess.
I'd like to shoot some Dufour too, if ever I have some holidays...
oh come'on , i've been waiting for this piece's sheets for so long , and now your going to make sth. else ? Thats not faire!!!!!!!!!!! please finish at first the sheets for Dreamcatcher.....pleeeeaaase...
i have this under my favorites, i just LOVE it. i think i've already commented a couple times... but seriously you've done a great job. i like this song more than the orginial! :)
That's very nice. The tune is awesome and I really felt I could do something with it. I'm really happy that some people should like this version so much.
Hope you get to post a video when you're finished. Dreamcatcher is an extroardinary tune. Sends me flying. The title definitely suits the atmosphere of the song. I hope you'll enjoy yourself as much as I did playing it !!!
OMG awesome, then I can't wait then. I hope it comes soon ^_^. ty for commenting back, you rarely see authors comment back now a days, especially the talented ones.
I have to say that in this world only a few things turn me speechless. There is a better word for this than AWESOME? I mean the facility with you move your fingers is magic. I wish I could be like you someday, seriously.
PS: Im sorry for my english, couse im from chile, south america, Im not very well.
Muchas gracias hermano.
I'm French, I teach English, but I hardly ever get to practice my spanish. Requires more efforts than I'd like. It's time to set up a trip to Spain, I guess. XD
Thanks for stopping by. Maybe next summer I'll have time to shot and post more vids you might like.
i know it is hard to learn spanish, though it is my natural language ( i am from argentina)... if you are going to post more videos of these candyrat artists, maybe you should try doing dufour covers
Being French help a lot to learn spanish. We have common roots... ;-)
I have thought about doing Dufour tunes several times. But many of his songs are very difficult to reproduce and transpose to another instrument. I'll give it a try though. I also have a couple of Don Ross's tunes to shoot. If ever I have time to, that is...
That's very nice. I wish I had time to. But I work far too much and I hate doing things in a rush. I just hope someday my life slows down a bit and I'll record stuff again.
I've commented before on how beautiful this arrangement is. I wanted to say this time that you've hit the nail on the head with "doing things in a rush". I wonder what people are thinking when they post stuff sometimes. Some is just plain bad but a good majority of them are "rushed". The talent is there but it lacks finesse. I would never post something that I didn't feel was absolutely perfect. Especially when doing a cover. Perfection pays the highest regards to the original artist!
Thanks, mate. I'm glad you liked what you heard. Thanks for such nice feedback.
I did my best to keep the spirit of peace that comes out of the tune. I'm damn sure Andy's happy about all the people following his footsteps. He's a cool guy.
I just listened to the live version on Youtube and the song's beautiful indeed, but I'd rather hear it with the strings and uillean pipes. The song has a dimension which is hard to reach with a solo instrument...
Thanks for making me discover an excellent band. I'll dig further into their music.
If i could play half as well as you i would be well pleased, i bet you get a real buzz everytime you sit in front of that keyboard...big respect.... nice 1,superb adaptation once again, so relaxed with it, amazing rythm 2, 11/10
I absolutely love your passion for playing these songs. I love to play Andys songs on the guitar, but hearing you play them on the piano like this gives me so much more appreciation for them.

i've heard this song so many times, and never once thought how well it would translate to piano... and you've done it so well. thanks for the really, really great upload! and i don't comment on peoples' videos often ^^
davidonut14 2 years ago
That really is fantastic, a really really nice performance.
Nice to see it adapted to the piano too and you have done a brilliant job.
Keep it up:)
jcdentonmale404 2 years ago
Thanks. People make a lot of requests, but not everything translates so easily to another instrument.
Andy's such a master of his art that you're always afraid you'd spoil the whole thing!
Thanks for your support. It's greatly appreciated.

Woah. Your playing style is great and the translation is perfect. Kudos to you, this is terrific.

I'll try to make a tutorial. It's not that hard to play. There are simply a trick or two.

Really really fluent, nice playing!
Being a pianist myself, I love when players are really 'musical' and not 'mathematical'.
You should play this on a steinway with light action.
This keyboard has a particularly good piano sound, but nothing can top a natural instruments' sound.
Again, terrific playing.
DaveDFFA 2 years ago
I wish I could play on a grand. I have none around, unfortunately.
Yet, to post vids on the Tube, the best sound quality comes (unfortunately) from digital stuff. To get good sound recording with a true piano, you need bloody good microphones and a killer sound engineer!
Check the same video on myspace. You'll get the stereo sound. It's a nice improvement compared to this version...
Thanks for the nice comment and the support.

What would Andy McKee think about this? He'd have to be amazed.
promothus 2 years ago
Maybe not amazed, but he appreciated the effort. He's a cool guy, and very enthusiastic. Don and Brooke left a couple of comments here and there on my vids too. This was very nice from them.
I guess these covers are our way of showing respect and they know it.
Thanks for the nice comment.

MAN, GREAT JOB. ITS BETTER THAN MY OWN GUITAR VERSION. HAHA!
Really nice. thanks for sharing it.
batsong 2 years ago
We all cover this song our own way. None is necessarily "better" than the other. The simple fact we all do it means we have the same taste for good music!!!
Let's make a club!

Wow! you have amazing talent my friend!.Have you ever thought about doing one of Andy Mckee's more faster songs?,like Art of motion or Common ground?
Georgiaguy93 2 years ago
I've thought about Art of Motion, but the result is not as good as I wish. I'd need to work properly on it, train, practice riffs, which I don't really have time to do. But that's a great one and maybe if ever I have time, I'll do it properly and record it.
I started playing Tight Trite Night by Don Ross ages ago by never had time to make a video of it. Now it's been so long that I'd have to start again from scratch I guess.
I'd like to shoot some Dufour too, if ever I have some holidays...
freddh2 2 years ago
If you were to have a duet with a guitarist, the guitar would be the accompaniment. Wonderful, very FULL version of Andy Mckee's "Dreamcatcher."
omomuki 2 years ago
It's a nice tune to play on the piano. Just as relaxing. I'd love to hear a duet (guitar + piano) of this tune...
freddh2 2 years ago
Interesting to hear this on piano, it fits beautifully. Congratulations, it sounds amazing.

Your praise goes straight to the heart.

Hope you get to post a video when you're finished. Dreamcatcher is an extroardinary tune. Sends me flying. The title definitely suits the atmosphere of the song. I hope you'll enjoy yourself as much as I did playing it !!!

I have to say that in this world only a few things turn me speechless. There is a better word for this than AWESOME? I mean the facility with you move your fingers is magic. I wish I could be like you someday, seriously.
PS: Im sorry for my english, couse im from chile, south america, Im not very well.

Muchas gracias hermano.

that is a nice spanish you have there, where are you from? btw i love your rylynn cover, as well as this one, your work is great, keep it on
garchetto 3 years ago
Thanks a lot.
I'm French, I teach English, but I hardly ever get to practice my spanish. Requires more efforts than I'd like. It's time to set up a trip to Spain, I guess. XD
Thanks for stopping by. Maybe next summer I'll have time to shot and post more vids you might like.
freddh2 3 years ago
i know it is hard to learn spanish, though it is my natural language ( i am from argentina)... if you are going to post more videos of these candyrat artists, maybe you should try doing dufour covers
garchetto 3 years ago
Being French help a lot to learn spanish. We have common roots... ;-)
I have thought about doing Dufour tunes several times. But many of his songs are very difficult to reproduce and transpose to another instrument. I'll give it a try though. I also have a couple of Don Ross's tunes to shoot. If ever I have time to, that is...
freddh2 3 years ago
still loving this-- well done!

That's very nice. I wish I had time to. But I work far too much and I hate doing things in a rush. I just hope someday my life slows down a bit and I'll record stuff again.
Thanks a lot for stopping by

freddh2 3 years ago
I've commented before on how beautiful this arrangement is. I wanted to say this time that you've hit the nail on the head with "doing things in a rush". I wonder what people are thinking when they post stuff sometimes. Some is just plain bad but a good majority of them are "rushed". The talent is there but it lacks finesse. I would never post something that I didn't feel was absolutely perfect. Especially when doing a cover. Perfection pays the highest regards to the original artist!
121jigawatts 3 years ago
Thanks a lot for this comment. I have nothing to add. You've got it right from A to Z.
I guess in our days people tend to privilege quantity over quality. A pity, really...
freddh2 3 years ago
wow......wow.....I am really speechless. That was beautiful man. Andy would be very proud to hear his song played just as beautifully as he plays it
whouston33wh 3 years ago
Thanks, mate. I'm glad you liked what you heard. Thanks for such nice feedback.
I did my best to keep the spirit of peace that comes out of the tune. I'm damn sure Andy's happy about all the people following his footsteps. He's a cool guy.
freddh2 3 years ago
^_^ This is beautiful!
Can you try the piano version of Dreamcatcher by Secret Garden too? That would be beautiful with your talent! *o*
Awesome work! *is envious*
XinksX 3 years ago
Shame on me, didn't know Secret Garden...
I just listened to the live version on Youtube and the song's beautiful indeed, but I'd rather hear it with the strings and uillean pipes. The song has a dimension which is hard to reach with a solo instrument...
Thanks for making me discover an excellent band. I'll dig further into their music.
freddh2 3 years ago
Truly Amazing work. You get everything right... Mckee's emotion is what makes his music.
Brett2686 3 years ago
Absolutely amazing...I listen to this mp3 daily. Any idea when you will get the tutorial up? I'm dying to learn how to play this song!!
soddog4 3 years ago

Music thanks you.
