I feel that most people who complain are just reminiscing on childhood memories; nostalgia can be a powerful thing.
It's true the show's different to the days when we were kids, but that's what happens when years go by.
I don't see anything wrong with Sesame Street today. I still feel the show has the same flair it had from when it started. I've really fallen in love with Abby Cadabby (and this is coming from a 23 year old guy).
@beauferret: I dunno. It tend to overexpose the likes of Elmo, tends to replace the more "real" felt puppets with programmed in CGI, and no longer relies on recognition of letters & numbers as much as earlier episodes.
@beauferret: "I've really fallen in love with Abby Cadabby (and this is coming from a 23 year old guy)"
Me too. The issue I have is Elmo's over-exposure that dominates all other characters, regressing them to background status. As for Abby, I think Leslie's voice is what does it for me (and I'm a 26 year old guy).
I will always love Sesame Street. I love all the characters. Elmo and new additions like Abby included. The main issue I have with the newest seasons is replacing the Muppets--the actual puppets--with CGI (ex: the Fairy School segment [no offense to Abby, of course]) or the OVEREXPOSURE of any one character. I would much rather have all the characters interact, instead of only having star billing.
@TherealRNO Well said. My daughter and I watch old segments with Jim Hensen and Jerry Nelson/Frank Oz, etc, and the puppeteering is so great! Way more enticing and captivating that boring CGi...
@sanfordcisco1: Well, that is true & I do feel that something is amiss now that the classic performers are gone/retired, it may be easier for Muppeteers to handle the CGI as opposed to manipulating a physical puppet. Still, the puppets--due to be actually made of felt that makes faux fur/feathers/skin & ping pong ball eyes--feel and act more real, because machines only do as well as programmed, whereas the puppets seem like living beings merely attached to their performer's arm.
@kieranmullen if you pay attention to the song, you see that it is focusing on the basics. the song isn't about magic, it's about how people who are different from one another can be good friends.
Abby Cadabby has gotten popular real fast she just joined sesame street and now she's everyware. She even had A balloon in the macey's parade. how long did it take for big bird and grover to get there own macey's baloons.
she's actually a character that's suppose to bring awareness to different cultures. she's suppose to be a representation of a person from indonesia or india. her design is an intentional departure from the typical Muppet look because she's not originally from Sesame Street. The implication is that the fairies in her old neighborhood look like her. so this song, as well as her character, is meant to make kids realize that regardless of what they look like, they can all be friends.
I think Abby is a great new character! It's too bad we never see Ernie interact with her. You guys at SW should make a sketch where Ernie and Abby talk to each other.
It's kinda funny...my niece's name is Abby, and at her third birthday party this past spring there were napkins with Abby Cadabby'picture on them. I just remember thinking ho sppropriate that was, and I didn't find out until literally a few days ago that this was a Seame Street character.
Go Abby!

Why bother teaching kids about magic when we need to focus on the basics? Terrible song, terrible voice.
