There always seems to be this misunderstanding that being a Christian is about earning something. In fact its the other way around. Being a Christian is simply about saying sorry for the crap and begin forgiven. No catches, no exceptions, and although there are many religious how will tell you otherwise, no-one is exempt. Forgiveness removes the threat of punishment and guilty, allowing good deeds to be done with a pure motive. Also; Marcus is freakin hilarious :D
The Now Show is fantastic, and Marcus Brigstocke is the highlight (for me). Intelligence and charisma, what more do you want from an opinionated comedian? Thank you for letting me re-live the moment (I heard it when it originally aired on BBC Radio 4, of course!) Spread this incredible common sense around the world. Peace. xxx
If Christianity is less dangerous to the world than Islam, then why was Hitler's Final Solution and the extermination of millions of Jews, Gypsies, Russians and others carried out by Christian nations like Germany, Italy (home of Catholicism and the Pope), Austria, Yugoslavia, the Ukraine, Poland, Romania. That was a Christian genocide, a culmination of centuries of Christian persecution.
@LABCall: I said spamming because someone said "The Abrahamic Zombies" were spamming, so I took it as Christians, Muslims and Jews. It was so long ago, I was watching a Christian Video and I saw him mocking people that believed in God. So I just was wondering why he was even watching that video. You know what, forget about it, because if people want to follow God they will, but I just don't believe in mocking. I don't mock Jews or Muslims, just because I don't agree with them.
@Valoree1104 Brigstocke is not having a go at people choosing to believe in a suprenatural being. He's having a go at WHAT THEY DO IN THE NAME OF THEIR GOD. There's a huge difference between saying a prayer and becoming a suicide bomber.
@Valoree1104 don't take it personally, if you listen to some of his other rants about religion, he has equal contempt for the Jews and Muslims, and presumably the others too. And he said in the original rant, "each one of these faiths will be utterly convinced that they're the ones being singled out for torment". As for spamming - can you describe in greater detail what he did on this site? Because I doubt spamming is the right word.
The problem i see with people who hate God and all who believe in God is that they have a very distorted view of reality! I know this is the same thing they accuse each other of, so how can this be resolved? Maybe changing places for a while and learning to truly see things as the other sees them? Of course this would require a fundamental change in perspectives, but achievable!
there wouldn't be unwanted babies if people would use birth control, or maybe wait till they are married and ready to have children. Also, alot of people want to adopt. That's why God's way is the best way. Of course we all make mistakes, but I don't think any woman can have an abortion w/o having guilt, or sickness after it. It's natural for a mother to protect her babies.
@Valoree1104 Sorry that is not true many mothers abuse or even kill their children. And the children that people want to adopt are perfect healthy and untroubled by genetic problems. Most prostitutes were unwanted and abused children who were ran away or were thrown out of their homes. As a victim of abuse myself I can tell you there is no "natural" instinct for parents to protect their children. Your god never helped me or any other abuse victim niether did your "morals".
@Gamesman001 It's not my "morals" ..It's my heart. Not everyone who adopts wants "perfect"children. Your generalizing. I'm genuinely sorry that your an abuse victim. I really am. And I know alot of what you say is true. God helped me. I heard the gospel and asked Him to be my Lord and Savior and he did change my life. And life really is horrible sometime. You are right.
@Valoree1104 Denying access to birth control in any form is immoral. Yes in any system there will be abuse but much like the bad behaviors of some clergy it isn't true of all of the system. If you can forgive the abuses of the pedophile preists who permanently traumatize young children surely you can forgive a woman who wishes not to burden herself and the world with an unwanted child.
@Valoree1104 Then if it's by faith, you can worship anything. The numerous Egyptian gods, Greek gods, altars, aliens, cows.

Of course, you won't read them, because it'l challenge your faith, right?
@MajinMustang /I read the site got up to "proof" 6. The author doesn't know how to properly read the Bible.Different books were written for people from different times. Grace came when Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead. Not in Old Testament. I'll read the rest of the site. But so far it's not correct./Thank you though it's interesting, but so far incorrect.
@Valoree1104 By "properly read" you're saying that they don't know how to determine which books are simply metaphorical and which ones are meant to be taken literally, right?
You do know that Yeshua wasn't the first god to die on the cross and rise three days later, right? And really, he didn't die on the cross. He was stabbed with a spear in the side and blood gushed out; that means the heart was pumping. And he was only up for a few hours; it takes days to die from crucifixion.
@MajinMustang I didn't say they don't know how to determine which books are simply metaphorical and which ones are meant to be taken literally. No read again what I said and stop making up what you want me to say to prove your right. You can't determine how many days it takes each person to die. Look at what he had to go through before he was crucified. You don't want to believe? Then don't believe. It's your choice.
@Valoree1104 Your personal beliefs are not the real problem it is when you try to force others to conform to your weird "morals" that causes problems. Your condemnation of other peoples choices of who to love or how to run their life. If you people would just stop involving us in your insanity we would be glad to leave you alone with your precious (the precious THE PRECIOUS) books. So no it is YOUR choice that is the problem.
@Gamesman001 /I personally don't try to force others to do anything. So stop trying to force YOUR beliefs on me ok? I don't condemn anyone. I am only a person just like you, I have no right to condem. And oh btw when you just said "you people". You have a probelm with Christians? tough. You have a religion all of your own. But your NOT God.
@Valoree1104 Not "christians" Zealots of any stripe is who I am talking about and your rants here about abortion being murder IS trying to force your beliefs on others. Like I said and you ignored forcing a woman to bear an unwanted child is criminal and an act of barbarism. Next you'll want public floggings of non-believers.
@Gamesman001 //I'm guessing your a man. And you never had an abortion. And don't tell me what I want. You generalize way too much. You tell me what I want. and you don't know me and what I've been through. And if killing a baby isn't murder, then what do you call it? and please read what I say carefully before answering and accusing ok?
@Valoree1104 Easy guess there more man than women on the internet. See I'm honest. But calling a bundle of undifferentiated cells a human doesn't make it so. And calling people names like murderer because your beliefs are different makes you a zealot. People like you use bombs and guns to stop what they see as against "Gods Word". Logic will never enter in your arguments. And to show you I have read your tirades I will say I sympathize with the pain you feel but not everyone is like you.
No, you are. I may have only had a high school level of education on the human body but I know enough to disprove the myths of abortion that you right-wingers abide by so much. No wonder why you don't like the idea of education; it makes people THINK. And thinking is "liberal bias" to you loonies.
@NUTCASE71733 //Why don't you investigate it and find out for yourself. Your calling me a right-winger, how do you know what I am. You know NOTHING about me. How do you know I don't like the idea of education? You think you know alot, but you don't. Just like you know nothing about abortion. Go study and check it out for yourself . Don't even write to me anymore, just use your precious time finding out what your talking about.
I already know what I'm talking about, as it was part of my school's curriculum to learn about childcare, and how children develop within the mother after sexual intercourse. The fetus has no heartbeat so therefore it is not considered alive.
@Valoree1104 "Grace came when Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead."
I'd like to propose my own theory, since yours is a theory as well, that grace came when Ted the Alien accidentally farted and saved us by opening up a window.
@Valoree1104 Then she wouldn't have been your mum and you wouldn't have been here to type a message. So that debate is all really hypothetical, isn't it?
Also, if the confused girl is incapable of taking care of herself, or a child, or pregnancy simply is the worst option for her at that time, then surely it's better to abort than to put another child into a place it would be detrimental to be?
@Valoree1104 Frist off please read your holy book page by page? (if it's the Bible your agenst what the Bible says about Abortion and animals for that sake) and if you think we don't know jack about the human embryo? wow for somthing to important to us you aperently don't think there are people looking into it? try asking a Abortion doktor about when the embryo's nerve system comes on and can fell somthing becourse when it does they wont do an abortion. Thats how the time limit came about.
@NickVittrup Read about Margaret Sanger the founder of Planned Parenthood and her belief in Eugenics. About keeping the "fit" and getting rid of the "unfit". She was a racist. She felt black people were one of the "unfit" . No one has the right to decide who can be born and who should be killed. Who do these people are that they feel they have this right. Why not just use birth control if you don't want a baby, or wait til your married and ready?
@Valoree1104 Yes of course it all makes sense now Roe vs Wade wasn't about a woman's right to make her own choices about her own body it was about money(sarcasm BTW). So does this mean you will adopt all those unwanted children? Remember a lot of them will have problems like fetal alcohol syndrome, developmental problems, crack addiction or even sickle cell. Pretty darn evil of you to consider forcing a woman to carry to term a child that may not live a year.
@Gamesman001 /Well if a woman has choices about what to do with her own body, if she has sex she can use protection, or if she really cares about her own body so much, she doesn't have to put an overabundance of alcohol or crack in her body right????????? In this day in age there are so many forms of birth control. So sorry , I don't agree with you. Some people get abortions as a form of birth control.
@Valoree1104 And of course they all chose to be pregnant right? I mean those victims of rape, incest and molestation were just asking for it right? Yes I don't agree with you because I have a brain and use it. BTW some genetic problems can only be detected after the child is conceived so you would still force the mother to bear a child that might live in agony for a short time because of some stupid (supposedly moral) code handed to you from a manufactured deity. That is just evil.
@Gamesman001 /The president of Planned Parenthood got paid more than $385,000 last year. What a freakin saint. And the vast majority of abortions are not from rape, incest and molestation, that's just propaganda. Why don't they use the money handed down from the government to them to actually help these women.
@Valoree1104 I still haven't heard what you would do with all these unwanted babies. And personally I think not forceing a women to have a child IS helping her.
@PseudoPoiesis /Then why did all the Apostles except for John die willingly for their faith in Jesus. They were the one's that walked with Him and knew Him. Anyway, it's by faith we are saved. Also Jesus was written about years before He was even born in the Jewish Tanach. In Isaiah and Psalms.
@TooferMan Fine, but don't say they don't do anything evil because they do, (not all but some. . Mocking people that believe in God is evil. If your happy being an athiest, then be an athiest. I'm a Christian and I don't spend all my time mocking Athiests.
@Valoree1104 ... Mocking is subjective...and it's NOT evil. Did I mock you? No.
Doesn't matter anyway.
My point was that religious people do evil things in the name of their god. Since Atheists have no god, they dont do that. So, If religious people would stop killing and hurting and oppressing others in the name of their god...things would be better. Agree?
@TooferMan No, I don't agree. did you ever think Athiests think they are a god unto themselves? And yes if people don't believe in God they would still do evil because that's the way people are. None of us are "good", we are still capable of doing evil, in different degrees, but sorry w/o God this world would still be bad, maybe even worse.
I'm in Norway now, and have been to the others, including France and Sweden this year. I can say that they are a lot healthier, happier, less materialistic and more equal one to another than the States have ever been. I wish i could live here.
1 why woud you even try to defend bombing abortion clinics or flying planes into buildings?
2 Faith like a little child isen't really that clever when people are lieing to you and that's what Jesus said? Nothing but the Bible say that he ever exsisted nor said so.
Christianity is miles less dangerous than Islam. I'd happily admit that. But what about the catholic church with it's paedophilia and spreading lies about condoms? They ruin millions of lives. Or the christians in the US trying to block stem-cell research or voting against gay rights. When you have any clear ideology, you end up causing harm.
@GodTheHypothesis In the New Testament it says not to forbid people from being married, the Catholic church forbids the priests and nuns from being married. And do they really need to kill babies for stem cells?
It's hardly 'killing babies'. That's the problem- when religious people pretend to know about science. In science, you need scientific objections rather than unfounded religious ones. A human embryo feels nothing in comparison to an adult cow, which plenty of religious people eat.
'Christianity is miles less dangerous than Islam' HAHA
Didn't you watch the fisrt in Brigstocke's rants on religion? He remarks that even the most fleeting glance at history will tell you otherwise, here are some examples:
The first crusade, the second one, the third one, the fourth one, the fifth one, the sixth one, the seventh one, the eighth one, the ninth one, the inquisition, the french wars of religion, the thirty years war and of course the taiping rebellion....
@BelfastAtheist Show me the last time a Church of England practitioner strapped a bomb to himself and blow up a building...that's right, it hasn't fucking happened - now piss off you pathetic little toad.
@kawaiigardiner Thats because christians are pussies. Muslims at least do what their book tells them. When was the last time you stoned a child who cursed his parent? When was the last time you advocated death penatly for murderers(just one murder is still worth of death)? When was the last time you broke a neck of a firstborn ox because you didnt sacrifice a goat in his place? Its all there straight written in Exodus. Oh wait. You didnt read the bible... Im an atheist. Peace out.
@cruncher221 when did I last stone a child? good question, its been months since I've been able to get my hands on some good quality weed to share with friends and family :D
Also, people who brag about smoking dope via youtube comments...I'm afraid I find difficult in affording them anything other than admonishment.
Incidentally, the only reason why the COB has NOT been involved with suicidal terrorist tactics is because the bible doesn't tell them to...imagine for one second it did....people are still killing gay people because of ancient scripture-derived homophobia, why wouldn't they do the same for scriptural instructions to kill?
•the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear
The fact that you had to insult me in such an overtly childish fashion in your first reply to me only makes it more evident to me that you are not capable of intellectual exchange, prove me wrong?
The COB never perpetrated terrorists acts, because the bible didn't tell them to; simple as that. People are still disowning their children due to abortions, brutally murdering homosexuals because of scripture-derived homophobia..why the hell wouldn't they perpetrate a terrorist attack if if corinthians told them to. Society wants to be told what to do so bad, they'll listen to almost anyone. Remember this.
Ok, I'll rephrase in the correct manner: AT PRESENT, christianity is miles less dangerous than Islam.
Obviously, it wasn't always that way but christianity, especially in europe, has been battered into something so moderate and meaningless, it's very rarely harmful.
Hm..Belgium recently had a big scandal about catholic priests raping their children, here in Ireland we had quite a few instances of it as well, as did Germany. Don't forget the massive amount of child-rape cases that took place in America and Canada..
Rationalize this whatever way you like, but christianity IS still harming the world at large today. + Yes the African Natives are not well educated, this is why the Catholic church goes there in the first place.
@GodTheHypothesis I live in the US and the christen terrorists here blow up family planning clinics, assassinate Doctors who preform abortions and torture/kill gays. No religion is without extremists.
Yes they do exist. They exist in miniscule proportions to that of Islam though. It is certainly very tempting to equate all religions that you disagree with as equally false and equally dangerous. That's just not the case though. There's at least 1 suicide attack in the muslim world every week. Christians only cause a few problems each year. Buddhists cause virtually no problems at all, even when their country is occupied. Jainism causes 0 problems.
@GodTheHypothesis Sorry that is just so much hogwash. The pope went to Africa and told people with aids not to use condoms which isn't a bomb but will kill far more people. I have nothing against religions themselves but the organization of them is the real evil. The proof is in the paper everyday. They prove the quotation "All power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
Absolutely, the Catholic church has a lot to answer for when it comes to AIDS. However, that's a more indirect problem. If those people were properly educated, they'd know the catholic church was talking nonsense. Suicide bombing doesn't exactly leave you any choice of whether to believe it or not.
@GodTheHypothesis Compared to the slaughter that the Catholic church (and other christen sects) has sponsored or supported the amount killed bombers is a drop in the bucket. Genocide was the favored way to gain control of non-christen areas. The majority of German churches supported Hitler despite knowing about his "finale solution". Sorry no religion is "less dangerous" they all are just as capable of violence and hatred.
Once again, you're talking about the past. At present, the only frequent problems caused by christianity are the birth control problem and homophobia. I'm sorry but the claim that no religion is "less dangerous" is pure nonsense. The abrahamic faiths are a lot more violent than certain eastern religions like Buddhism and Jainism.Sam Harris makes the important point that it's no coincidence that we don't see Tibetan Buddhist suicide bombers.After all,they've been equally oppressed.

RenegadeSparrow 1 year ago
@Valoree1104 Frist off please read your holy book page by page? (if it's the Bible your agenst what the Bible says about Abortion and animals for that sake) and if you think we don't know jack about the human embryo? wow for somthing to important to us you aperently don't think there are people looking into it? try asking a Abortion doktor about when the embryo's nerve system comes on and can fell somthing becourse when it does they wont do an abortion. Thats how the time limit came about.
NickVittrup 1 year ago
@NickVittrup Read about Margaret Sanger the founder of Planned Parenthood and her belief in Eugenics. About keeping the "fit" and getting rid of the "unfit". She was a racist. She felt black people were one of the "unfit" . No one has the right to decide who can be born and who should be killed. Who do these people are that they feel they have this right. Why not just use birth control if you don't want a baby, or wait til your married and ready?
re not making sense.
Valoree1104 1 year ago
@Valoree1104 if she did that we wouldn't be here to tell you how stupid thet idea is.
kokofan50 1 year ago
@kokofan50 Well, that's what kind of person started Planned Parenthood , and their making millions killing babies.
Valoree1104 1 year ago
@Valoree1104 Yes of course it all makes sense now Roe vs Wade wasn't about a woman's right to make her own choices about her own body it was about money(sarcasm BTW). So does this mean you will adopt all those unwanted children? Remember a lot of them will have problems like fetal alcohol syndrome, developmental problems, crack addiction or even sickle cell. Pretty darn evil of you to consider forcing a woman to carry to term a child that may not live a year.
Gamesman001 1 year ago
@Gamesman001 /Well if a woman has choices about what to do with her own body, if she has sex she can use protection, or if she really cares about her own body so much, she doesn't have to put an overabundance of alcohol or crack in her body right????????? In this day in age there are so many forms of birth control. So sorry , I don't agree with you. Some people get abortions as a form of birth control.
Valoree1104 1 year ago
@Valoree1104 And of course they all chose to be pregnant right? I mean those victims of rape, incest and molestation were just asking for it right? Yes I don't agree with you because I have a brain and use it. BTW some genetic problems can only be detected after the child is conceived so you would still force the mother to bear a child that might live in agony for a short time because of some stupid (supposedly moral) code handed to you from a manufactured deity. That is just evil.
Gamesman001 1 year ago
@Gamesman001 /The president of Planned Parenthood got paid more than $385,000 last year. What a freakin saint. And the vast majority of abortions are not from rape, incest and molestation, that's just propaganda. Why don't they use the money handed down from the government to them to actually help these women.
Valoree1104 1 year ago
@Valoree1104 I still haven't heard what you would do with all these unwanted babies. And personally I think not forceing a women to have a child IS helping her.

@PseudoPoiesis /Then why did all the Apostles except for John die willingly for their faith in Jesus. They were the one's that walked with Him and knew Him. Anyway, it's by faith we are saved. Also Jesus was written about years before He was even born in the Jewish Tanach. In Isaiah and Psalms.

@Valoree1104 ...Ummmm.... Pagans aren't atheists.
Sacrificing babies to a god, for your religion, is exactly what the problem is.
pa·gan /ˈpeɪgən/ –noun
1. one of a people or community observing a polytheistic religion, as the ancient Romans and Greeks.
Every group or community has evil people within it.
But Atheists don't commit evil in the name of any invisible deity,
Atheists don't accept that there are any deities because of a lack of evidence to support that claim.
TooferMan 1 year ago 2
@TooferMan Fine, but don't say they don't do anything evil because they do, (not all but some. . Mocking people that believe in God is evil. If your happy being an athiest, then be an athiest. I'm a Christian and I don't spend all my time mocking Athiests.
Valoree1104 1 year ago
@Valoree1104 ... Mocking is subjective...and it's NOT evil. Did I mock you? No.
Doesn't matter anyway.
My point was that religious people do evil things in the name of their god. Since Atheists have no god, they dont do that. So, If religious people would stop killing and hurting and oppressing others in the name of their god...things would be better. Agree?
TooferMan 1 year ago
@TooferMan No, I don't agree. did you ever think Athiests think they are a god unto themselves? And yes if people don't believe in God they would still do evil because that's the way people are. None of us are "good", we are still capable of doing evil, in different degrees, but sorry w/o God this world would still be bad, maybe even worse.
Valoree1104 1 year ago
@Valoree1104

1 why woud you even try to defend bombing abortion clinics or flying planes into buildings?
2 Faith like a little child isen't really that clever when people are lieing to you and that's what Jesus said? Nothing but the Bible say that he ever exsisted nor said so.
NickVittrup 1 year ago
@NickVittrup I'm not defending bombing abortion clinics and flying planes into buildings. And how do you know what the Bible says isn't true?
Valoree1104 1 year ago
@Valoree1104
GodTheHypothesis 1 year ago
@GodTheHypothesis In the New Testament it says not to forbid people from being married, the Catholic church forbids the priests and nuns from being married. And do they really need to kill babies for stem cells?
Valoree1104 1 year ago
@Valoree1104
It's hardly 'killing babies'. That's the problem- when religious people pretend to know about science. In science, you need scientific objections rather than unfounded religious ones. A human embryo feels nothing in comparison to an adult cow, which plenty of religious people eat.
GodTheHypothesis 1 year ago 2
@GodTheHypothesis
'Christianity is miles less dangerous than Islam' HAHA
Didn't you watch the fisrt in Brigstocke's rants on religion? He remarks that even the most fleeting glance at history will tell you otherwise, here are some examples:
The first crusade, the second one, the third one, the fourth one, the fifth one, the sixth one, the seventh one, the eighth one, the ninth one, the inquisition, the french wars of religion, the thirty years war and of course the taiping rebellion....

kawaiigardiner 1 year ago
@kawaiigardiner Thats because christians are pussies. Muslims at least do what their book tells them. When was the last time you stoned a child who cursed his parent? When was the last time you advocated death penatly for murderers(just one murder is still worth of death)? When was the last time you broke a neck of a firstborn ox because you didnt sacrifice a goat in his place? Its all there straight written in Exodus. Oh wait. You didnt read the bible... Im an atheist. Peace out.
cruncher221 1 year ago
@cruncher221 when did I last stone a child? good question, its been months since I've been able to get my hands on some good quality weed to share with friends and family :D
kawaiigardiner 1 year ago
@kawaiigardiner -from your post I assume anyone who follows the bible is on drugs or what are you trying to point out?:D
cruncher221 1 year ago
@kawaiigardiner
BelfastAtheist 1 year ago
@kawaiigardiner
Definitions of terrorism on the Web:
•the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear
The fact that you had to insult me in such an overtly childish fashion in your first reply to me only makes it more evident to me that you are not capable of intellectual exchange, prove me wrong?
BelfastAtheist 1 year ago
@BelfastAtheist

GodTheHypothesis 1 year ago
@GodTheHypothesis
Institutionalized pedophilia, bitter homophobia and a total disregard for established science..nope, still pretty dangerous.
BelfastAtheist 1 year ago
@BelfastAtheist
Well most european christian denominations don't suffer from any of those- it's mostly catholics.
GodTheHypothesis 1 year ago
@GodTheHypothesis
BelfastAtheist 1 year ago
@GodTheHypothesis I live in the US and the christen terrorists here blow up family planning clinics, assassinate Doctors who preform abortions and torture/kill gays. No religion is without extremists.
Gamesman001 1 year ago
@Gamesman001
GodTheHypothesis 1 year ago
@GodTheHypothesis Sorry that is just so much hogwash. The pope went to Africa and told people with aids not to use condoms which isn't a bomb but will kill far more people. I have nothing against religions themselves but the organization of them is the real evil. The proof is in the paper everyday. They prove the quotation "All power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
Gamesman001 1 year ago
@Gamesman001 //The Pope was wrong. 100%. The Pope is not infallable like the Catholic church says. He's just a human being.
Valoree1104 1 year ago
@Gamesman001
Absolutely, the Catholic church has a lot to answer for when it comes to AIDS. However, that's a more indirect problem. If those people were properly educated, they'd know the catholic church was talking nonsense. Suicide bombing doesn't exactly leave you any choice of whether to believe it or not.
GodTheHypothesis 1 year ago
@GodTheHypothesis Compared to the slaughter that the Catholic church (and other christen sects) has sponsored or supported the amount killed bombers is a drop in the bucket. Genocide was the favored way to gain control of non-christen areas. The majority of German churches supported Hitler despite knowing about his "finale solution". Sorry no religion is "less dangerous" they all are just as capable of violence and hatred.
Gamesman001 1 year ago
@Gamesman001
