  • solo but no name..

    the name PLEASE,10x

  • ahhhhh anybody can play this! u just need gilmours soul!!

  • @COSANOSTRA910 Or you could be his cousin.. Actually that still doesn't work 100% lol believe me haha

  • Gretsch G6128T Duo Jet - Black. Or better..

  • Gilmour has said he's not very good at expressing himself in words. But when you can play like that, words are superfluous. You could remove his tongue completely and he'd still be more eloquent than almost anyone else on the planet.

  • @ericynot I think the best description of Gilmour's guitar playing was something I read in a late 90's issue of Guitar World: Dave Mustaine of Megadeth: "David Gilmour can do more with one note than most guitar players can do with the entire fretboard."

  • my guitarist master!!

  • this is just .... well.... better then perfect? is he an alien?

  • @Slash4evah Not an alien, but I'll bet when he puts the guitar down after a long session of playing, the axe begs him to play me "just a little while longer?!" :-)

  • Wisdomly step by step

  • eh

  • Gilmour has been my guitar hero for over 40 years. He's proven that lightning speed guitar licks and techno flash are absurd. Guitar was meant to be played not manipulated. His music is grand, soulful, and at times transcendent. However, I will say this: as a loyal Stratocaster devotee, Dave put that Les Paul down...

  • @lycialive That's a Gretsch...

  • @ML92 is that a Bigsby Tremelo i spy on it as well?

  • @lycialive It's a Gretsch, they're awesome guitars, but even though, Stratos forever :D

  • le myte pinkfloyd grave a jamais pour tous ceuxqui comprennes le sens des accord magique de cette guitard la classe infinie

  • guys anyone talking about shredders should just fall down a hole and die shredding is for losers who get by on nothing but speed and no feeling and jack shit in the way of tone get a life you moronic idiots there is a reason why Gilmour is remembered 40 years from when he started you wont hear the names of these wankers in 10 years time mark my words they suck

  • @MrDannyboyhall Perfectly said, speed is nice to have but emotion will always have my biased choice.

  • Comment removed

  • @LeifJohan it is Gilmour ive got the dvd he is playing it on Rick Wright's breakthrough what a stupid comment

  • sounds a lot like stevie ray vaughan in this one

  • what concert is this from?

  • @pandorakittie Robert Wyatt Meltdown, Dave's one of the few acoustic performance showcase

  • @sagnik5987 no this was the bonus tracks from royal festival hall not the meltdown show on the same dvd though

  • el genio nunca muere

  • forget steve vai

  • I have a lot of respect for shredders, they've obviously practised a lot and some of it sounds good, but THIS is guitar playing.

  • in architecture it is known as negitive detail;its the bits he doesn,t play, his syntax.he,s a musician that knowns that "less is more"

the composition is really mixed and completed in the listeners own head.

  • the three peopls that disliked this are reprobates and there gonna burn in hell for eternity ...there ...i said it...

  • this IS the shizzz-nit !!!what song is this.Where can I get it???Gilmore is thebest soloist of the world! In the history of the world. Why you ask?Simple,Cause he has feeling, soul,in his music.3 notes by gilmore is equal to a entire songs by some artists.

  • @bigdaddydaug Breakthrough is the song its Rick Wright on vocal and Dave on guitar the only place you can get this version is on the David Gilmour live in concert dvd

  • Why do some people reduce art to a competition, like football, "my team is better than your team". Pathetic.

  • @MrJuno6 in a way, guitar is a race... but there is one road runner, and it's called jimi hendrix

  • @MrJuno6

Skill has levels higher than others.

  • Slipknot is cool, Gilmour is even cooler

  • the absolute best

  • why do people listen to slipknot when this is available...?

  • @swanski100 Why dont people listen both things and enjoy every style at his own moment?

    (stupid question, stupid answer)

  • yngwie has disliked this video 2 times :D

  • @821Guitar make that 3

  • @821Guitar AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

  • @alexandra16907 4 times actually :D

  • @821Guitar that's funny, cuz he does not know what feeling the guitar means!

  • @Pelleman666 dave's solos are EVERY TIME about feelin ;)

  • @821Guitar they sure are!

  • Love the gretsch.. Ihave the same guitar :D

  • @randomtwit Wow! You rarely see him with out his Strat. Nice guitar :)

  • @BlackBeltNumber3 Though there is something about the curvature below the neck that seems different, a little bit off, I think this is a a Gibson Les Paul, not a Fender Stratocaster.

  • Comment removed

  • @freedhwy I never wrote that this was a Strat. By the way he's playing a Gretsch in this video and not a Gibson dumbass.

  • @freedhwy its a gretsch duo jet guitar

  • that custom fret-board is soooooooo nice lookin

  • @Jagethemage its not custom its the standard duo jet fretboard with the thumbnail inlays its gorgeous

  • Who's this Malmsteen?! I remember a video on this Tube of a guy playing so fast.. it's that guy? But he just plays notes, not real magic music. Mgy is for magicians, and there aren't much musicians on that limbo of really magic masterpieces...

I think the guy was playing in POorto last week or so, but I wouldn't spent an Euro to hear that...

  • Wow what great compression....Gilmour has such a chewy tone! Thanks Alembic lol!

  • Hey Don't get me Wrong,To me Comfortably Numb's got the Best Guitar Solo of all Time,Just simply for it's Simplicity and the Fell Put behind it,I mean it's a Master Piece and Work of ART! My Hat goes off to Gilmour!

  • Dave Gilmour is the modern B.B. King. Beautiful tone and the BEST selection of notes.

  • Guys, one of the founders of Alcatrazz has been my music partner for 12 years. I know all about Malmsteen and Vai, believe me. Both great players in their own right. But Gilmour is in a completely different league. If you think number of notes per second is whats up, you're not talking about guitar playing. Can you imagine Yngwie playing in Pink Floyd? He'd ruin the song completely, utterly. Gilmour and others are a totally different, superior, breed of player, it degrades them to even compare.

  • beautiful musical - clean the wax out - this solo seamlessly fits Animals

  • One of the best solos of the night.

  • I didn't know Gilmour played Gibsons! Sweet!

  • @sebasredspecialfan it's a GRETSCH dude

  • Each and every single note Gilmour plays is absolutely meaningful

  • is this from the live in Gdansk Concert?

  • I love DG but it's the mysteriousness of Floyd that made us listen to the same song 1ooox and still feel like it was new

  • David gilmour has lost more talent and soul than most any guitarist has ever had.

  • Genius, simply genius.....!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Didn't like this, I am a big fan of Gilmour but blues is not his thing.

  • @ZR1Terror are you out of your mind?!?! What the hell do you think ALL of his solos are based on? BLUES RIFFS man!

  • @beautifulmusical You just don't get it, this is not his soloing style!!

  • @ZR1Terror he can play any solo, obviously this is not his style with pink floyd, coz in their latter years they drifted away from "bluesy" songs and solos.. have a listen to the earlier floyd, and ull know that "the blues" was an inspiration to them. again.. the name PINK FLOYD comes from 2 different blues musicians. blues is in davids blood. he can belt out a blues solo anyday, and from the heart! he isnt some idiot guitarist that has no idea about anything.

  • @yawalaa You just forgot that when the name and influences werepicked, david wasnt in the band....

    just though i'd point that.

    Dave is god.

  • @castello669 Yes, true. and also, Waters was a cock.

  • @ZR1Terror u are an idiot! gilmour is trained in playing the blues originaly. u do know where the name pink floyd comes from dont you? 2 different blues musicians! ignorant idiot

  • Whenever mentioning great blues guitarists David Gilmour, for me, will always be there on the top. His blues are truly the most Profound and emotionally charged.

  • LEGEND !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Happy birthday to him !!!

  • He is the best guitarrist I've ever seen. Thank god we have gilmour in this planet.

  • is he using any pedals or is he going alone?

  • hes using ALOT of effects, trust me.

  • @arnaud360 if your retarded maybe, I heard nothing but guitar, I mean the very most effects I could say he is using is reverb, and maybe one little dab of chorus but I think that just emmits itself naturally from Gilmour's finger through the strings, and out the amp. Thats just my thoughts.

  • @Zaspor Exaclty, that's just your thoughts.

Trust me, he is using alot of effects.

  • @arnaud360 ok, tell me what effects he is using. I hear maybe a slight touch of reverb, possibly a treble boost, and expression pedal. That's like using an amp with an OD pedal and just having a volume pot that you can use with your foot... Yeah that's a lot of effects alright.

  • @Zaspor D. Gilmour has ALWAYS been known to use a Butler tube driver - driven hard and loud by a rare and vintage Big Muff (Russian)... and then into a HiWatt 50 head. Blowin the tubes up!!!!! That is always his base AFTER, as you said, his fingers. Modulation and everything else I feel, as with others, is based on mood and venue. Even on Utube they have videos with his standalone tone and it is "sqeeky" and smooth at the same time. MAsterful!!!!!

  • espressività assoluta...gilmour solleva il mondo con tre note...il primo chitarrista che ho amato a soli 12 anni..

  • Nice Gretsch!

  • Although it isnt Gilmour its a great solo

  • You´re right, he is just a copycat who looks and plays exactly like him......

  • uuuuhhh....I'm a human but I'm not into brains but isnt a bass a guitar? (unless your swinging it standup) ... you have the freedom to play whatever you want with whatever you want....it's art man.

  • i'm a bass player..so i'm not into guitars but this isn't David's sound...he need his Strato.

  • ahh a bass is a guitar man..and one should explore both..one day you will..if not you are missing the point..good luck..and no matter the guitar i can hear David Gilmore in this all day..i think its cool for him to tribute bb's guitar with a killer blues line such as this

  • listend carefully the sound is in his fingers not the guitar

  • he looks funny without a strat, but great solo.

  • Granny Gilmour made me play guitar

  • i've been a gilmour fan since the late 70s. This is one guy I never get sick of listening to...... his playing takes me to a happy place, unlike work.....

  • Gilmour is un-real, he truly does the most with the least in terms of notes.

He strikes a perfect balance of soloing, and yet never trying doing too much. He never plays an unnecessary note.

  • @BilliusORillius

absolutly right, santana is good at that too

  • @skitheport

meh, not really. smooth, maria, just feel better were all unnecessary. he is great tough

  • @BilliusORillius Brevity is the soul of wit?

  • It's a gretsch?

  • Gretsch Duo Jet : D

  • he can make just one single note sing...........genius

  • David Gilmour doesn't pick up a guitar; it leaps into his hands. He is to the guitar as Chuck Norris is to toughness. Bravo, David Gilmour!

  • Take a Breath

  • I'd like to know what song this is, could anybody tell me? Thanks in advance

  • this man is a genius

  • is this song from any of their pink floyds albums, cause i dont know it, waht song is this?

  • its from richard wrights solo album (i cant remember which one..maybe broken china)

    the song name is breakthrough

the album version sounds nothing like this live version though..

  • What an inspiration. All the Yngwie Malmsteens and Michael Angelo Batios in the world won't be able to do what this man does. This is what separates technique from soul.

  • thats because yngwie and him play different styles...but in my opinion i still like david gilm0ur better just because he my favorite guitarist...yngwies uop there to though

  • I'm not trying to knock Yngwie's skill, and he was at one time no doubt original, but nowadays everyone sounds like clones of him. Listen to Guthrie Govan if you haven't heard of him, in my opinion this is what shred should sound like.

  • malmsteen couldn't hold a candel to gilmour

  • Respect.

  • @benroo89 You really cant compare those two guitarists, however, I believe that they are both THE best of their respective genres.

  • @gordonwar32 Well music is art and art is expression, what Malmsteen does is not expressive, it's just showing off. Therefore, Gilmour is a lot better at music.

  • @benroo89 who the hell would even think to mention malmsteen when talking about gilmore?

  • @benroo89 I think each has his thing. Malmsteen is all about "hey, I can lift this huge granite boulder in several different ways". Gilmour, on the other hand, is about "Maybe I can't lift it as high, but I can sculpt a beatiful, emotional thing out of it". I certainly prefer Gilmour's playing.

  • @benroo89 haha, i pretty much wrote a similar quote on one of malmsteens videos. Gilmour can create the most incredible solos with few such notes

  • @benroo89 In my opinion Malmsteen sucks there are even tons of shredders better than him.

  • @DavidKinner Shredding is for wimps. Try shredding on a classical acoustic with your thumb nail (you need to grow it).

  • @benroo89 Well that depends on the shredder because all Malmsteen can do his shred his ass off in my opinion he is pretty much just noise. Buckethead on the other hand is much more diverse. Also John Petrucci from Dream Theater is just fucking amazing he shreds plays soft and slowly like Gilmour and plays some ridiculous solos. He is probably the greatest metal guitarist alive in my opinion.

  • @DavidKinner John Petrucci has an awful tone. It's like that of Steve Vai. Metal is for kids anyway. It's for ignorant teenagers with acne and piercings. The only metal band I like are Necrophagist and it's for Muhammed Suicmez's impressive composition. Dream Theeater can't even spell the word "Theatre", lol. Also, their singer is very boring.

  • @benroo89 Actually there are some words spelled theater and some spelt theatre a musical theatre and a movie theater. So I guess it isn't then that doesn't know how to spell. :P Also Petrucci has one of the best tones. He is amazing. I hardly doubt you have heard all that many Dream Theater songs or else you wouldn't be saying what you are. Their singer is incredibly underrated and has as much range as most of the greatest singers. Metal is not for teenagers. Kind of funny how the only metal

  • @DavidKinner I agree with ya Dream Theater does Kick Ass!!! Could you Imagine Sebastion Bach with DT. Whoooooooooooooaaaa

  • @benroo89 band you like is one of the bands that initially started this stupid "hxdcore" teenager scene in the first place. Ozzy is not for teens nor is Iron Maiden or any other bands like that they are for everyone. They are some of the most talented bands that existed. Dream Theater is one of the only bands that could fuse amazing progressive rock sounds from Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake and Palmer, etc and mix them with music like Black Sabbath, Metallica.

  • @DavidKinner I don't really consider Black Sabbath to be in the same category. I know they did some good albums. The same goes for other classic rock/metal bands. I can't help but appreciate the complexity in Necrophagist's songs. I would have consider they songs music as they are not emotional or meaningful. However, from a theoretical point of view, they are astounding. Petrucci has an awful tone, you just don't know what guitat playing is. To hear a good tone, listen to Peter Green.

  • @benroo89 I know Peter Green want to hear a beautiful tone listen to Steve Howe.

  • Also, theatre is the English spelling and theater is the American-English spelling, or as I like to say "The idiot-English spelling."

  • @DavidKinner Oh come on Please I know you didn't say Gilmour is the best metal Guitarist alive.lmao He's note even in the Top 75.I will tell ya Who in my Humble Opinion is the Best as Far a Speed ,Skill Technical, and that is #1 Best in the World(Michael Angelo Batio)No one Can Touch him,Yngwie doesn't want none of Him.Yngwie Would be 2ND Best,Due to his Classical impact and also Blues he lays out.Other than them, I know in my Opinion they are the top 2 Best.George Lynch is my Fav.of all TIME

  • @chadmbedwell I didn't say Gilmour is I said Petrucci is probably the greatest metal guitarist alive. Malmsteen is one of the most overrated guitarists ever. Mustaine is amazing also.

  • @DavidKinner CALCULUS! :P

  • @chadmbedwell oh please this comment is a joke those guys while technically brilliant play absolute shit music Gilmour plays with soul something your guys have no concept of move along and watch the shredders elsewhere

  • @DavidKinner Buckethead is Pathetic,Compared to Malmsteen,Buckethead hasn't showed me Shit,He's not even in Malmsteens League!!!!!!!! Malmsteen isn't Overated either he's a Fucking Bad Ass!!!! Also Michael Angelo is the Best EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUCKETHEAD PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!LMAO

  • @chadmbedwell Buckethead is definitely not pathetic. I have not heard anything from Malmsteen except shredding. Buckethead is diverse. He can play heartfelt soft solos that create an atmosphere similar to Gilmour, he can shred faster and better than Malmsteen, blues, Country you name it. Michael Angelo Batio is overrated also. Buckethead isn't even in my top 30 of all guitarists. I don't think I would even put Malmsteen or Michael Angelo Batio in top 100. Shredding does not take extreme talent.

  • @DavidKinner He is Pathetis end of story he's a Fucking Idiot and ,your right it doesn't take Talent it's a GIFFFFFFFT YOUR BORN WITH,and SHREDDDDDDDDDDDING IS Very Technically difficult That;s why people like you down it because you can do it.So you want to take the easy way out which is Simplicity instead of Complex playing! But that's your choice.I guarantee your not going to Drop any Jaws and Make any heads turn with your somplicity playing BRO.! Only the Best Kick Ass and Take Names!!!

  • @chadmbedwell Shredding is simplistic. Unless people are using extremely hard to do time signatures and playing fast, but difficult there is nothing to it. Which is what Malmsteen does. Hendrix played fast, but very complex. I will admit Buckethead when playing fast does not play complex. However, try and play an Eric Clapton solo with the emotion he has and see how hard that is. Playing slow and beautiful is more tough than fast and energized. Mustaine is better at fast and difficult.

  • @chadmbedwell Do you really think any of these people have anything on anyone like Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Clapton, BB king, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Duane Allman, Johnny Winter, and plenty plenty more. Stevie Ray Vaughan. Playing fast as all hell is not a really good talent. Especially when most of Malmsteens notes sound dead. Batio is better, but there is still not much better of course he sounds faster he has a double guitar he used his hands on each making the notes sound quicker.

  • @DavidKinner Well Fuck Yeah they are Much more Skillful and Gifted Guitarist!!!!!!!

  • @benroo89 Hey Now Come on, Gilmour has Created Absolutely Brilliant Music,But you know there's Nothing Gilmour can Play with Fell that Yngwie could Play it with Feel and Makeit Sound Probably 100 Times Better than Gilmours. No offence But Seriously DUDE! You know Yngwie is the Man, To me he's the 2ND Best Guitarit in the world, and Michaeal Angelo Batio Takingthe TOP SPot oh yes His Wizardry on Guitar is FLAWLESS and he Is atleast 75 to 80 years a head of himself.!

  • @benroo89 LMAO that is a JOKE Right!!!!!!! Im Laughing so Hard im literally Crying,Please tell me you were Joking Please!!LMAOROTF!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @benroo89 just no. Malmsteen would have this solo for breakfast, I mean i love floyd and gilmour but this solo is really slow and easy, doesn't mean it's not good but never a patch on malmsteen

  • @lees2oo8 We're talking about art here. Playing fast is like lifting a heavy weight. When will you people understand? Art is about expression! *Sighs*

  • @benroo89 Then i agree, because gilmours music is better than malmsteens, I was just saying that malmsteen is actually a better guitarist than him

  • @lees2oo8 It depends what you call a guitarist. I think that the main goal in art is to move people. I think gilmour is a better guitarist because he moves me more. Malmsteen is better than Gilmour at playing scales and arpeggios, but so am I. That doesn't make me a better guitarist than Gilmour. Gilmour can write beautiful solos, I can't.

  • @benroo89 i would rate a guitarist of how good is he based on what he can actually do, and in my opinion the videos i've seen of malmsteen compared to gilmore - malmsteen has a lot more raw guitar talent. But having said that I highly doubt malmsteen could write something as beautiful as comfortably numb or wish you were here

  • @lees2oo8 You have it all wrong. There is no talent in playing fast. Gilmour can write great music (although he can't write great lyrics). It was Waters' job to do that. Talent is all about what you can write. Anyone can learn to play Bach really fast, or even to write music like that. It's just scales and arpeggios. The mere fact that someone can play scales and arpeggios that well indicates that he is not talented. Talented people spend more time writing great music.

  • @benroo89 I'm not disagreeing, I actually have a similar opinion but in my views a fast guitars> a clever guitarist, because a fast guitarist will always be able to do what a clever guitarist can do. However a clever guitarist will never match a fast one for speed.

    anyway this is no argument,

    Long live Gilmour!

  • @lees2oo8 Man I guess it´s the other way around...Playin´ fast requires training but being clever, it´s all about the person´s natural talent, so are feelings, and these, nothing will ever replace..If you say playin´ fast with feeling I agree, but just for the sake of being fast, it makes no sense at all to me and my ears as well...My opinion..

  • @benroo89 In my opinion, talent for a guitar player is, among others, to play with feeling, and that´s something nobody does like Gilmour... I believe you certainly do not play the guitar, but if you did, you´d recognize all the technique involved in Gilmour´s playing and really have a picture of all the feeling involved in his musicality and in Pink Floyd,s as well. Anyway, It´s my top band and he´s my number one guitar player. But writing is also VERY important, you got a point in that.

  • @Marco1308 Mate, you've got it all wrong. I'm arguing on Gilmour's side. He's my fucking favourite guitarist. What the fuck are you talking about? You should be telling this to lees2oo8. I do fucking play guitar and I know what it's about.

  • @benroo89 Hey buddy. you´re right...My bad... Actually I just happened to click on the worong place! Keep on rockin´!!

  • @Marco1308 Cool.

  • @benroo89 Psh malmsteen just flaps his fingers round like floppy cocks.... Gilmour... now see here gilmour makes the guitar come alive and talk.

  • @Iamfukenripped Yeah.

  • @madchemist5926

Excelent comment! And except for soul, i would add that no one can catch gilmour because he wrote MUSIC! every solo he wrote and played is unique and has great melody. Not many notes but extremely accurate. That's harder and that is why there is no other gilmour and will never be...

Knopfler of dire straits has excelent feeling on the strings. These are my two favourites!

  • One of the best things about Gilmour is that he doesn't play many notes. He only plays exactly what's needed.

  • @benroo89 nice comment, nice sentence!

  • @benroo89 He plays exactly whats called for perfectly, but nothing else...leaving you wanting that next note. A lot of guitarists dont know how to leave space and give it a break, but he's the king of it

  • David Gilmour est un Dieu..!!

    C'est beau, trop beau..!!

    °IIIIII°

  • Sorry that guitarmaistro Gilmour didn´t play this wonderful solo on his red P*U*L*S*E Fender Stratocaster. The best rockguitar ever!

  • omg i'm havig orgasms

  • i am erect

  • lol

  • wish he used the lespaul more than he do love this guitar

  • The guitar he is playing is a Gretsch, not a Les Paul.

  • gretsch with a les paul body

  • No, its a Gretsch Duo Jet.

  • i think it sounds a tad bit warmer than a LP. Doesnt sound as fat either. What pickups are on this?

  • I swear i could listen to this man play for hours and not get bored.

  • You guys should check out Eddie Hazel. David started playing the way he did now because of Eddie.

There's a song called Maggot Brain by Funkadelic. You'll swear it was David.

  • That is an awesome song, sound wicked.

  • The great thing about his playing is that it doesn't seem very hard. The notes are simple, it is a simple blues progression, anyone whose been playing for a year can get the notes...but there is just this style he has that is almost impossible to replicate. Of course he has good equipment, but his timing and the angle of his pick, it is so unique. That's why he will go down as one of the greatest

  • Amen I agree %100, its tooken me years to master David's bending techniques, not to mention the time spending to get that oh so sweet clear bell sound, though im still young into music i cant say for me learning his songs are easy, but i enjoy the time spend learning em.

  • what guitar is he playing here?
