  • The legend has been this good for at least 40+ years. Mind boggling. He's in his mid to late sixties yet in top shape. Only way to maintain this playing ability. I'm having dinner with him and a mutual friend ( he knows Billy, not me) on 8/22/11 in NYC. I'm not a drummer, just a drumming fanatic. What do you say to Billy Cobham. I'm already nervous. My buddy said he's the nicest guy you could meet.

  • @SterlingRe He seems very humble, and a genuinely nice guy... I'm so jealous you got to see this legend in person , let alone to sit and have dinner with the guy.... Nice man, nice.

  • Holy crap, very good one!!!

  • Holy shit!! I forgot how big he is. I bet he could beat the living shit out of most younger cats less than half his age in a drumoff or a steel cage match. that's like literally adding insult to injury.

  • ILI CHRRRISH A PAIR OF YOUR STICKS

  • Bill Cosby on drums!!!

  • I prefer Billy's older kits with the toms mounted from small to large rather than the jumbled up set-up. Plus, I prefer his original Zildjian set up of A. Zildjians.

Yes, I think Cobham w/Mahavisnu was just the best form of fusion. Trilok Gurtu is another player that captures originality. Check him out for those that haven't. He is also a major player.

Weckl/Colaiuta? Great players, but after a while, I kind of get bored with their style.

  • I like The Dreams, now that was some interesting music making at the time

  • where was this?

  • just fkin amazing. Mr.Cobham is the best drummer ever. Keep your Neil Peart shit, he cannot compare to the soul and rhythm of this giant.

  • Dont diss Neil. Theyre both great innovators/drummers. I love em both. But shit? come on , youre a drummer, Cobham owns fusion/jazz and Peart owns rock in my eyes.

  • I agree with ace Mahavishnu was the shit

  • His best work was with Mahavishnu...

  • nah his best work was spectrum

  • @bendinggreenvans

Superlatives can sometimes diminish the tons of other great stuff out there. Not saying you're doing that here. I guess it's just a bad day for me where it seems every youtube I'm hitting, there's someone saying this is better, this guy's better than that guy.

I liked his work with George Duke as well. Taking nothing away from Jan Hammer, who is one of my favorite players. Billy and George were like root beer and ice. They just got each other so well...

    my 0.02

  • In no particular order, some of my favorite drummers of all time...

Carter Beauford, Thomas Pridgen, Billy Cobham, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Danny Carey, and Ginger Baker.

  • Got some Cobham sticks on the way, can't wait to try them out.

He's an awesome drummer, him and Tony Williams

    And Topper Headon

  • I was at this Drum Daze. It was a sick solo, but forever long. Everyone there was sick though.

  • my top 5 influences

    1. John Bonham

    2. Buddy Rich

    3. Vinnie Caluotia

    4. Lars Ulrich

    5. Terry Bozzio

  • u must suck if those are your top 5 influences

  • YOU HAVE NO CLUE on what your saying John Bonham alone is all he had to put down you prob. idol pert and barker once again great drummers well barker fucken blows but yeah you must suck if you don't agree

  • Nobody cares!

  • Lars Ulrich.....come one, seriously?

I don't believe in comparing drummers, but couldn't let that one go.

And despite Buddy's talent, he seemed to have been quite the ego maniac......i'd rather have a less talented drummer with a better attitude to use as an influence....like Tre Cool, not the best drummer, but a positive, fun, and entertaining to watch drummer

  • ho ho... come on, ulrich?? he has just nothing to do with the others

  • Phenomenal.

  • Billy is great but Tony Williams was the BEST - Tony was Billy's HERO - Tony Williams was the BADDEST OF THE BAD - RIP TONY

  • Other way around. Tony actually admitted (on several occasions) that he felt BC was the most "musical" drummer he ever heard, including himself. I also asked him myself (I lived in Pacifica, CA and accidentally found out where he lived, by driving down his street and overhearing him practice). He said the only weakness he felt BC had, was his traditional grip playing.

  • Billy você é o maior.

  • Not bad for like 61!

  • I once tried to find out who Billy's mother is so I could write her and ask if Billy was born with a pair of drum sticks in his hands.

  • Crosswinds? hahah you need to check him when he was on the Mahavishnu Orchestra recordings...

  • Que arte que ritmo ole

  • Been listening to Billy since 1974 "Crosswinds" album the brother is "BAD!" No other like him, when you live good, live Jazz, you look like him at his age! Bro Stubbs

  • Yeah it's amazing how he's still in such good shape. :D

  • and he is in his 70...I wish I will look like that when I'm like 40gooooooooddaaaaaaamn

  • born 1944

  • pwnd... hahaha...

    fucking spectacular...

combham is so inspirational... I could honestly give three fingers from my left hand to see him live... if I wasn't already using them to play drums... =P

  • Billy's ALWAYS had it.

  • ...you can that he's still got it all right... Great, great player.

  • He's still got it.
