I will forever love this album. I was at a house I was staying at with a bunch of friends, basically a messy loud party house. The party started to die down and this kid came in raving about this CD and how it "changed his life", and he put it in our boombox and put it on continuous repeat. I laid on this dirty fold out couch and just stared at the ceiling and listened. The album must've played at least six times and everybody had gone home but I remained just lying there and listening
Caribou's latest album doesn't compare to his previous albums. I love this stuff. If you have not heard the song "I've Lived on a Dirt Road All My Life" off of Up in Flames you're missing out. It's vintage Caribou back when he was called Manitoba before he was sued for the namesake.
@1979descartes I agree that is an awesome song but I guess I look at the whole. I love every song on the Milk of Human Kindness and Andorra. I can't come close to saying that about Swim. It's just my opinion. I'll take mrada2001's advice and give it more time and attention.
i call this "thrift store soundtrack music" because so many sounds are collected to produce one cogent theme and melody...like an aural collage, the artist picks certain elements and tweeks them...stream 88.7 wncw, an npr station out of western nc sunday nites at 6 to hear a whole spectrum of electronic treats...im not affiliated, but have loved them since '97 when i moved to nc from ny
Please explain to me how MGMT has over 100x the views of this on a couple songs. I don't mean it as an insult when I say that this song sounds mainstream. It's like classic rock, 1960s pop, with a melting chorus and complex sounds.
The hype over this is ridiculous. Its another drowned in reverb, hastily assembled and forgettable number. If you want something modern that blows this away then listen to Pepe Deluxe, far better.
@maccagrabme I listened to pepe and I thought that is was like ikea, cheap and quickly assembled. This song has brought a smile to me, so who cares if I remember it in ten years?
@harrywatkins3 The Birdy Song by Black Lace can bring a smile but it doesn't mean its any good. I want music to remember in 10 yrs or more because I care about music. You end up with this nonsense when you don't. Take a listen to 808 State Pacific State or Can you feel it by Mr fingers and tell me that it sounds cheap compared to this. Yes 20 yrs later it still sounds great.
@maccagrabme I listen to 'old' music all the time, i appreciate that you want music to last. so does everyone but all i am trying to prove is that if a song has a good sound to it then i am going to listen to it. I'm not going to evaluate whether i will remember the song in years to come. I am just saying that i like to listen to good music whether the band has history or a specific reason about them. If it's good then i will listen to it. If you do not agree with me, then thats fine.
@maccagrabme But do not try to drag us all down by saying that we know nothing about music, and that we are ruining music by listening to this. That is bullshit my friend.
@maccagrabme Do you realize that people have different taste in music? Maybe you can sit around for the next 20 years listening to Pepe Deluxe; most of us can't. Maybe some of us think Pepe Deluxe has decent instrumentals but do not like the "Britney Spears" auto-tuned voice. But The difference between us and you is that we don't go on their board talking shit about it. Why, cause we love music, respect all forms, and are not naive enough to think that our "likes" are the best for everyone.
@jk0745 Yes I like a lot of music myself and listen to music regularly from modern to the early 1900's. I mentioned Pepe Deluxe as ONE example of something similiar to this track but better. I've had a good listen to the Caribou album and its grown on me a little more but its not as good as the hype suggests. Thats the reason I made the initial comment because of the fact that everyone is hyping this up way beyond what it really deserves. Like I said, its not bad but nothing earth shattering.
@maccagrabme thanks for posting! i forgot that music tastes are all objective and you know what sounds best! dude, you're not linked up to anyone's brain. this is bliss for some people
@maccagrabme hastily assembled? I mean, sure, if you dislike the music thats fine, but quit trashing on the guys dedication, there are interviews with him on the BBC where he walks through the process, its not like he is just slapping shit together. Im certain this will be remembered in years to come, its hit every best of list I have seen or read. I listened to Pepe Deluxe... not a fan, way too cheesy for my liking.
I feel like the summer in the late 60's at deserted beach with the coolest friends you have just acting a fool and having fun...it's amazing what a song can do :)
Great song! I don't think he's saying "Easy" though. I always thought it was "Be gentle" and today I saw the pink room video and he's definitely saying a b word.
I love this song. The psychedelic flute breaks, blend in with the whispy, washy, acid induced swirl of the rest of the song, and the video is a perfect match with its surreal images. Quite an achievement.
Melody day what have I done [oooooh] Now our hearts are locked up tight again And when I pray it's all begun Then your smile it melts away again Melody day where have you gone And the hope I had is dying And what we had has come undone Then your smile it melts away again Easy! Easy! Easy! Easy!
Melody day what have I done Now our hearts are locked up tight again And when I pray it's all begun Then your smile it melts away again Tell them Tell them I always knew why So long So I would like to say goodbye Easy! Easy! Easy! Easy!
I saw them last night (never heard of them before mind) loud and rather trippy at times, especially with the light show, good laugh all round. The drummer is killer.
the song opens a show of chanel for the summer collection 2007 . i watched the show first and fallen in love with the song... then a friend brought a cd with a remix of this song apparently by apparat... i cant remember... gotta see them live!
