Paula at her best in my opinion at 4:09 to ELO's "Hold On Tight". Great dance routine, great song, once again the "spunk factor" .......and the tight gold pants definitely "NOT" hurting her cause either! YOWZA!....Gee Paula?!...(I'm sure the pants were very happy too!) Finishing with the classic cheesy Paula smile....Just too adorable....Ya gotta' love her!

Always thought Paula was a little cutie. Maybe it's just me but she seemed to be more in the shadow of the other girls then in the spotlight. I definitely agree with you on the "spunk" factor though LB. I don't know that I've ever seen a girl that actually had the gift of pulling off a smile that was both cheesy and somehow charismatically adorable at the same time. It was adorable because you knew she did it intentionally. She's the cute girl next door with the priceless sense of humour.KudosLB

lbCharmed1, I don't know how to thank you. I used to worship Paula in the 80s.  She was my favorite and this video clip brings back very pleasant old memories.

What episode is it with the second Real Love song and who is the couple in the background and her male partner was on a couple of times in the first season. Too latino for mainstream TV in those days is my guess why he didn't get picked up.

That is from episode 3 (if I remember correctly). The background couple looks like Alex and Deborah. From what I understand Kevin Carlisle (choreographer) didn't know if he wanted Tony or the latin guy and used the first 4 episodes to trade off and choose. I guess we know who got picked!

And what happened to the other Latin guy in the pilot? He didnt' show up in the first episodes of season 1, did he?

At least that other black girl did for a couple episodes but was kicked to the curb. And that Pat Benator look alike looked a bit dead in her expression so I could see why she was knocked off.

The guy from the Solid Gold '79 special did not come back to weekly series at all. Tony was in the 1st episode of the weekly series. The the short Latin guy was there for a couple then Tony came back permanently. The "other" black girl and the Pat Benetar look-a-like were replaced by Kahea when she started in episode 5 (I believe that is Kahea's 1st appearance).

Maybe Kevin Carlisle was just trying to get the right mix of dancers? Who knows?????

108 lbs? Seems like the dancers were a little heavier than that, especially Darcel. What do you think?

You have to remember, the camera adds AT LEAST 20 lbs. I was ALWAYS shocked at how petite the dancers were when I met them in person. Darcel seemed especially tiny when I met her in the summer of 85. I can remember thinking to myself "That's Darcel? She so dinky!" I am 6' 0" so I towered over Darcel!

Interesting observation. Remember that Darcel, as noted in her autobiography, wore 4" heels unlike the other dancers who only wore 2" heel (and still complained according to Darcel lol), so at 5'5" she would have measured 5'9". And my guess is that you probably saw Darcel on one of the first three seasons. She appeared to have added weight beginning in Season Four.

No I met Darcel in the summer of 1985 AFTER she returned to Solid Gold. And it was at an open audition and from what I recall she wasn't wearing her "regulation" 4" heels. This was an all day thing and she was there to help the "hopefuls" with the particular of the routine for the audition. She was in regular "rehearsal" attire.

It's good to have this record of Paula -from so long ago that Pam still had long hair. (OT-I never tire of that shot of all the legs from side view. I wondered whimsically if anyone could recognize certain dancers from just the legs, and then realized I could recognize my favorite on the right that way, not so much by the legs, but that to which they are attached.) :-)

I know that a lot of comments were made about Tony and Deborah being paired up a whole lot. During the first two years, Paula and Alex were paired up a lot too. Paula was one of the original 5 from Solid Gold 79 and had much longer hair then!
