Hi Nancy The other day I made goat milk CP soap 12 lbs batch. Because I wanted to get the color so I used half water half milk with cool lye solution and cool milk. I achieved the color but I got lye flake fly around my batch. Do you know why? It wasn't I got wrong measurement because I got flake lye frying around my 2 and 3 batches again. Could you tell me how to avoid this problem?
Nancy, I love your videos. I found them while searching instructions for my husband. I need wood for CPOP. I wish I could have been there to hold the camera for you. You go girl! -carol
you inspired me to make my own...i've managed to scrounge some perfect, clean wood...Free! gonna get the hubbie to cut it up....a little smaller than yours though, perhaps a foot long.
Put boiling water in your boxes to test them. With cold process soap, the soap reaches temps up to 180F. This will determine if your boxes will hold up. Additionally, with CP put in the oven, you have to put it in with temps averaging 160F.
Also... silicone caulking will work to seal the edges. It's cheap at Home Depot. It will withstand the heat, but can't be used to construct the boxes like glue. This is important because, with heat, glue will lose its bonding properties if constantly exposed. FYI. I love what you do, Nancy!
No, the carpenter's glue won't hold over time, especially as a sealing agent. The GOOD news is that you can dissemble your mold easily by soaking them in hot water and pulling apart. Your molds can be reworked, i.e. shortened to fit your oven, etc.
I like the way your soap molds are made. I wanted to know what kind of linner material? You are placing inside the mold and can it be purchase at HomeDepot thanks.
I think hand made items (with or without flaws) are nice. I love wood items. I have hand carved wood spoons (some are crooked), bowls (some are crooked with knots) ,etc. :)
One of them leaked a couple of drops, but that's all. They are working well! Next ones I make will be with a flat bottom board, not a slightly warped one like these!
what is the length of your boxes? I think I want to have mine 15 inches long. And use a 1x4 board. And the end pieces be 5 inches wide. I hope that will come out right.
It is great the Erin sent you the soap box, it has inspired you to create your own. You could make more and sell them on Etsy. You could get adhesive that you would use to seal your shower or windows to seal the cracks in your boxes.

Okay, so the carpenter's glue won't be a permanent thing, then. perhaps I should put in some finishing naials, too.

okay. I have already put the soaps in them, but they're too long for the oven. I think I'll have to make new ones for that.

See my comment, above.

Okay. I thought carpenter's glue was permanent. I'll have to ponder this.

So the base of the box will be a 1X5 then. Do you want the inside dimensions to be 15 or the outside?
