i turned 16 a few days ago and im thinkin of buyin a nice old wooden one of these from someone. sure it'll be hell to get it seaworthy again but i love a challenge!
speaking of challenges, i suppose ill have to sail it alone coz i dont know anyone else who can sail :(
im 16 as well and helm my own fireball and theres no way you can go single handed the jib halierd turns into the forestay so you'll hav to sail with main and jib not to mention the power issues. i dont mean to be negative coz i was in ur shoes last year but u need a crew member & fireballs are 16 foot long so even though these boats are designed to be hand built it will be hard to find a nice DRY place to repair it. im looking for crew where abouts
i live in the midlands, near rutland, i have no sailing experience with one of these babes, i just stumbled upon an offer for one that was too good to turn down so i bought it. wish me luck (and yea i might go look for a crew, meh im probably gonna work for a yacht designers so there'll be tons of potential crew there probably)
i will probably be done restoring her sometime in summer, shes very old. hull number 7327. ill PM you when she's ready, or just head over to my videos, i got some of her online now
the boom cam was dodgey, nearly lost it when the boom hit the water on a tight reach... but it makes for some good footage! they are seriousley fast boats!
yeh when me and my brother went out for the first time i capzied her cause the boom hit the water and i couldnt stop her lots of fun though and loving the music
Ahhh the boom hitting the water will punish ya. The key to these boats is to keep them flat, even if ur spilling lots of main. A general rule I would use is if you have to spill main you should rake the center board up, the more main you spill the more board you rake! at this stage you should be planing upwind and you foils will have enough lift to stop sideways slipping. LONG LIVE FIREBALLS
love the fireball. ive been sailing them since i was 12 im now 18 and there is no boat i would rather sail.

Bud, you'll need a partner to sail it. It's a two-man boat. If you want to sail solo and just to learn, consider a sunfish or something like that.
