yha, Everquest wasn't as easy to get into as some of the other MMO's but that's ultimately what made it so great. it was actually DIFFICULT to cap your level, in the beginning days before PoK killed it, it took HOURS to travel the land, espcially if you were a 13 kid like I was back then with a level 20 rogue lol. I remember OOT, the boat traveling was my favorite, I'd just camp on the boat and trade languages with people using macro's, I think I was the only level 20 with nearly every language

Best Online Game Ever Written... I love World of Warcraft.. but it's still an elementary game compared to Everquest.. no game yet has been able to accomplish and enforce grouping and fun.. grinding for 8 hours on end having fun... I hope EQ3 rocks...

Everquest sucking ass and being copied only by better and more skilled developers is what killed Everquest. Played it for 3-4 years and once some better games started appearing it became how horrid things in Everquest were.

I still am fond of Everquest and the memories I have from it, but let's face it. Everquest of 1999-2003 would never sell units in todays market since people now know that you don't have to be fucked over by a developer over and over to have fun.

@slamminsammy35 For solo/group content I agree with you except on AAs, which were way fun and added content. As a raider, I looked at every new expansion as a new challenge. Raiding got better and better while zone complexity dropped off the map (I mean, Velks, Seb, and CC were amazing). I quit in GoDiscord, but PoP was the raiding expansion, most uber guilds would agree.

I love it, all except the people meeting and getting married through Everquest. That part is fucking corny and stupid. SO many people flirted in the chat in that game it made me want to fucking puke, it was a game not a single's bar.

And some of the "couples" that came from that game were disgusting. One dude on my server was sleeping with a 50 year old woman when he was 23 at the time I played. Fucking disgusting, she was butt ugly too and it wasn't a romance it was about the sex.

Every kid that plays WoW should be required to watch an EQ documentary or at least Wikipedia it before ever commenting on anything ever.

And I play WoW and it just lacks so much. Its doesn't feel like a "world" like EQ. Nothing is immersive. It just feels like a game.

This is so typical of them. There is maybe one shot in this entire clip of the *original* Everquest (the quick shot of the aqua frost giant with the grey land). Most of this is very late EQ1 and a lot of EQ2 crap. Jesus christ guys, pay some well-earned homage to the *original* game that is the whole reason you are supposedly celebrating.

It's like celebrating Babe Ruth by showing a bunch of A-Rod shots.

Actually I thought of a better analogy. It's just like Lucas wanting to reinvent the original trilogy of Star Wars to be the versions with those added special effects, just because he thinks it "look purtier". You are 100% correct. I watched this video because I wanted to see the magic of the original EQ again, which is truly, truly a momentous and wondrous thing to celebrate.

But Sony packed this video full of crap that THEY did, when truly Sony's purchase of EverQuest is exactly what killed it.

Verant's rule of EverQuest was grand. Verant was right: "You're in OUR world now!"

But once Sony got a hold of it, things started to suck. It wasn't a world anymore; it was a commercial product. Tragic.

EQ was / is the ground breaker that made mmorpgs what they are today, but they still wouldn't be were they are for Sony (the original funders btw), also think about it, Planes of Power (best expansion which has won so many awards it's crazy) was a SOE thing after the verant tards say SOE took over and ruined it and we all know EQ wouldn't be here if not for POP.

at no point, ever, was smedley not in charge and ultimately sony not running everquest. sony interactive studios america was renamed 989 studios in 1998, part of 989 spun off into redeye, redeye was renamed verant interactive.
