  • Sorry for splitting: their is a limit in number of characters. Please read in order: 1, 2 and last 3

  • Part 3:

However, there is one simple thing I suggest you to check: human voice uses the similar frequencies to guitars, hi-hat, plates and snare. Be aware to diferent their equalizations significantly adding extra mid freqs to some and taking it away from others. This simple trick will not make you sound better but it will make it easier fro the audience to find any instrument in the mix.

  • Part 2:

So, with this two restrictions and with no sound engineer, we have to "feel" if it sonds good or not. If you have some experience you will know that empty venues, as they are when sound checking, never sound alike when the show is ongoing and the place is full with people. So it is really difficult to set your equipment for good sounding.

  • Part 1:

Sometimes we performers have very little knowledge about sound engineering and technology. And when we are starting our careers we usually have a medium quality equipment.

  • This is a good bit of advice. Some singers have a couple of set phrases, song, or a couple of parts of songs from their set that they use during sound check to assess the high/low trouble spots.

  • Kevin is right on, your tonal balance through the system can make or break your performance. I have a fail proof system for perfect tone. My VoiceTone Correct pedal. I don't use the pitch correction, but I Love the compression, tone shaping and de-essing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is guy is right on when mixing music. I cannot express enough how great vocals will make or break a performance. You can have the greatest band, guitar player, drummer, whatever and still sound like a practing garage band without great vocals. You could even have a great vocalist, but due to the mix or setup, even he/she will put in a medicore performance. I assure you, if you put a great performance in with poor vocals, or vocal mix, it will be remembered over anything else.
