Kevin is right on, your tonal balance through the system can make or break your performance. I have a fail proof system for perfect tone. My VoiceTone Correct pedal. I don't use the pitch correction, but I Love the compression, tone shaping and de-essing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is guy is right on when mixing music. I cannot express enough how great vocals will make or break a performance. You can have the greatest band, guitar player, drummer, whatever and still sound like a practing garage band without great vocals. You could even have a great vocalist, but due to the mix or setup, even he/she will put in a medicore performance. I assure you, if you put a great performance in with poor vocals, or vocal mix, it will be remembered over anything else.
