Got my whole nail off yesterday, the numbing shots are quite a sting, but only for a few seconds, after that, the bain of your life is over. Cutting the corner and pulling back doesnt fix it, just get down to the doctors, he'll sort it. I couldnt watch though, so I dont know what it looks like o.O

if its a mild case, do it at home, i do it sometimes. get alcohol, dip tweezer in alcohol, put tweezer under toe, and lift a curl it a little, bear with the pain, trust me, when that pus comes out, its the painful thing ever, but when its over, its so good.

@FMAfanFMA you don't have to get the entire nail removed. However if you don't it will usually end up happening again, so I requested it. I was actually the one who suggested having it removed.

About the numbing, I didn't feel a thing. He came in to check on the numbing and poked at it. I still had some feeling, so he left and came back about 10 minutes later. At that point I didn't feel anything. If you feel ANYTHING, don't go through with it. They can always inject more numbing agent.

I didn't even feel pressure, just a little tingling. it sort felt as if someone was lightly drawing their name with their fingertip on your skin. the only thing that hurt was the numbing shots. they burned going in but it happens so fast you forget about it almost immediately. Its all numb from there

Had this done on both big toes 20 years ago. Virtually painless surgery. Easy recovery. And zero new problems for the last 20 years. The surgery is WELL WORTH it. And after you have it done, you'll realize how stupid you were allowing yourself to suffer terribly with the ingrown toenails, and postponing the surgery out of fear and ignorance. In short, the pain of the ingrown toenail is FAR WORSE than the surgery and recovery.

I get the impression that most people only have their`s pulled out from under the skin. Thing for me is, I had mine cut off completely before it became infected, so the condition of the nail was still "healthy." Here`s the worst part about it, when they cut it off, they cut my toenail in half, right down the middle. And even after 8 shots (Yes.. 8) directly into the bone, I could still feel every cut that the surgeon made. Problem is, I may have to do it again because it`s starting to hurt again

@maurins2 I'm 28. I live 600 miles away from my parents. The only reason my mom was with me was because I got the procedure done when I was back home visiting family. It was cheaper for me to have it done in Michigan rather than Maryland. I don't know what advice to give you other than just tell them. You're better off saying something and getting it out of the way then deal with the pain in secret. It will only get worse.

@cazzijazzi you know, I've had so many people ask that same question. I need to just grab the video camera and get a shot of it. Maybe I'll do it in the next couple of days. Basically there's just an indent in the toe about the size of the toenail next to it. The skin does tend to get really thick on it. My girlfriend likes to yell at me because I pick at it all the time, but you can literally peel a thick layer of skin off it every month probably. But hey, no pain...ever again.

@tungstenfusion That's a pretty accurate description, except the cutting it back part. I used to cut the piece of my nail digging into my skin and then slowly peel the nail back until it ripped off up under my skin...and right after it was pulled out it was like heaven. I could walk around with no pain. I'd even jump up and down just because I knew I could. It would only last for a month or so though, and then the pain would be back. I went through it for 9 months.

@AsianStyled actually it didn't really hurt. The procedure and afterwards were pretty painless. I guess the most painful part was getting the shots, but even that wasn't so bad. It was no different than just getting a standard shot at the doctor's office...except it was in my toe.

First time iv had em removed both together but he didnt put enough anesthetic in the left one and i fucking felt it :S. Hurts afterwards but both my toes are badly infected also so maybe thats why? Epsom Salt baths for it for the next week or two :)
