Does anyone know where I can find the ACCURATE lyrics to this song? They lyrics that I found DOES NOT add up to what I'm hearing on this recording. So if anyone has the lyrics or know where I can get the right lyrics, please let me know.
This was the Aretha I loved. Not the flamboyant pop singer that developed years later with lots of pizz-zazz, theatrical vocalizing and little soul. Vocal power does not always translate to soul. This had the right balance of soul & fantastic vocals. Even the musicianship was impeccable. This had fire. One of the best tracks I ever heard by Aretha was something called "Sweet Bitter Love." (May have even been one of her early failed Columbia tracks). Now I have to look for that one.
@lastrada52 That's not fair.. Aretha was really sad and depressed in those years, so the music reflected her problems. In later years she was happy, and people unfairly criticized her "for trying to be something that she's not". No matter what she sang, she never lost any soul.
@jga665 - I'm not certain what it is that I said that's not "fair." I wasn't aware jga665 that Aretha was sad and depressed during those years but I didn't criticize her -- I just made a statement about which Aretha I enjoyed most. Even in later years some was good. I just prefered the earlier years. The song selection, arrangements. I think Aretha just made one mistake -- trying opera. That was not her arena and I meant the songs having "little soul" -- not Aretha herself.
Aretha Franklin stirrs me up like nobody can....she makes me feel things so deeply. Just the way she delivers the song just ministers to me. This song speaks to how i feel right about now in my life. Aretha is in a class all by herself...you would have to be dead inside not to be able to feel this lady.
Was sitting here listening for the 100th time and realized that what "ain't fair" Aretha, is that I neglected to mention you in first post. This is you at the TOP!
Simply Pure! And the way Duane plays TO YOU, and not over you, is sheer perfection!! It doesn't get better.
@rentatrip1 This was recorded in New York. Duane was flown up by Atlantic to record as a session musician with Tom Dowd. This was recorded along with their version of the weight

This woman got me here at work ready to testify. Aretha is just one of a kind and never will be duplicated or imitated. Sang it my Soul Sister #1.

the studio in Muscle Shoals where this was recorded is an abandon building now - it should be preserved as a national monument
