I just started a 20 gallon tank 2 months ago with lots of rocks, a purple tip anenome,a pair of amphiprion percula clown fish, one shrimp, 2 turbo snail, H.crabs, 6 little snails and a six wrase line fish. Problem is that the top layer of the sand is turning like the same color as when a piece of metal is getting rusty, like yellowish, can you advise me please about how you clean the sand?Thank you for your time and congrats! for such a beautiful tank. I hope one day to keep mine like yours :)
i just have a question that you might have the answer.. i have a 30 gallon aquarium salt water tank with live rocks and just 2 clown fishes... i have a protein skimmer that is for 30 gallon also.. i was just wondering why my protein skimmer gets really full for only 2 mins or even lower than that even though my tank is super clean and only house 2 fishes.. with no corals or anything.. do you by any chance know the reason?
skimmer $41, live sand $30 for 30 pound, live rock $30-40(not sure), test kit $20, fish $18 for clownfish. you don't really need light for a fish only tank and filter is optional but remember you can't have a lot of fish in 20 gallon.
@xXchowkingmasterXx I saw a 50 Gallon fish tank for 109.99 , 50 gallons is huge and can cary like 13 fish. But with 150 dollars u can buy the 50 dollar fish tank at Petco. I just went there today and they had a good sale. So i suggest u buy ur fish tank now before the price goes up and then after u buy that, save money for the fish, food, coral , sand Water vacuum , Water conditioner , and whatever else u need. If u want, ill make u a list of everything u need and the prices.
i would only get fish that get about 2-3 inch max and no more than 2 of those. if you get smaller fish you can have a couple more. but rigorous attention must be paid to water changes as with that small amount of water conditions change fast. run tests once or twice a week to monitor until everything gets balanced out after adding fish. and DO NOT OVER FEED. only put in there what they will eat in 3-5 mins and decent clean up crew and scavangers are a necessity.
ok i want to start a 20 gallon reef and fish tank, i need to know all the equipment also i wanted to know if i could put a couple clowns, banggai cardinals and copperhead butterflys in would that be alright?
one of the nicer tanks i've seeen on youtube, :) Well done, I've got tropical at the moment, but once i've got enough money for a larger tank, i might make the jump to marine, is it a lot different, or don't you know?? :)
i've now done a lot of research, but it will take me a year or two to save up for the tank i want, and then probably another year before i can even stock it with fish, (i'll get live rock and corals and stuff first)
@Leroyjohnson124 theres can reef too thats also really good my dad got a good deal 180 gallon fish tank sump the pumps 3 mettal halides all for $500 also a good place to find rock
It would be best for every one to have a ( eco AQUALIZER ) in there reef tank .i have one in mine and it keep my stabilizes pH and increases Oxygen .eases acclimation & reduces stress on corals and fish .Eliminates cloudiness & yellowing of water .reduces green algae and red slime .increases oxidation of ammonia & nitrite.intensifies deeper transmission of lighting to make corals grow larger .
Is It okay if I can put one long tentacle anemone in a 20 gallon fish tank? or is it okay if I can put one bubble tip anemone in a 20 gallon fish tank? Does anemones need a protein skimmer in a 20 gallon fish tank to survive? does mushroom rock need a protein skimmer to survive in a 20 gallon fish tank also?
if you're tank is plain now just buy them and rinse them then place them where you want to the water may get a little foggy but it will keep you're tank cycling is better to have live rock and live sand also

Its a lot more work than fresh water. A lot more money too but you can buy everything used on Craig's list or DIY. good luck.

charzarg 3 years ago
Craig's list is an internet site where people put up things for sale and you buy it, sound simple, it is . . . ;p

@charzarg
you can begin with fowlr, its not as expensive as reef tank. have a skimmer and a sump then cycle.
