we get coyotes howling around my house too. it freaks our cats out. around here they're set off by the sirens from ambulences and police. we've also gotten just one yipping in our neighbors yard. they sound mournful like a wolf, very haunting
@MaraJ. Our cat does not want to hear coyotes either. Isn't it strange that dogs and coyotes answer sirens? Are they talking to the siren or does it hurt their ears. How often do they go through your neighbor's yard?
@rodemay i haven't heard one in my neighbors yard in about a month but during the summer it was at least once or twice a week. now that it's getting colder i guess they don't go out as much. one of my friends think that they don't like the sirens but another thinks that they think the sirens are other coyotes.
@pippimom In my opinion, a coyote has a very distinct sound. More of a highpitched yip-howl. I know that sounds a lot like the sound dogs make, but they really are different. Plus, coyotes usually howl in packs. A dog is usually howling by itself.
Ha! In the Pacific NW. We usually only hear them in the summer. One of them chased our cat into the side of the house, but that didn't make any noise except the bang of the cats head. lol Cat's fine. Coyote ran off.
The place I used to live had a bunch of lakes around and they coyotes lived there right in the city. I saw them almost everyday. The next place I lived was at the edge of the city and every evening when I went out for a walk I would hear their howls. Although they are not predators of humans their sounds envoke a primal response. I can't help but feel adrenaline when I hear them.
Aw, they are more afraid of you than you are of them. They don't scare me unless my poodle is in the back yard at the same time, which, so far, hasn't happened.
Lol I love the dog! Last night the coyotes kept me up..and I live right next to the woods, and my bed is right under the window that is the closest to the woods...how fun...But in my backyard there is a whole pack of them!! Talk about noise!
I wouldn't mind hearing that once in awhile, but not every night. I live near trains and people always tell me "Oh, you get used to them and then you don't hear them any more." but that has never happened in 20 yrs.
lol ... No, not at all. Coyotes are more affraid of me than I am of them. Coyote attacks on people are extremely rare. Most of the attacks involved children under 5 years old. Since 3 million children are bitten by dogs every year, a small child is much more likely to be bitten by a family pet than a coyote. I don't let my little dog out to go potty unsupervised though.
Yep. Thanks. Up until last week we had two dogs, a big dog and the little dog. The big dog would give the "all clear" to Misty. Our big dog was 14 and took her last ride to the vet. Now I don't let Misty out without going out with her and checking for potential danger first. What kinds of dogs have been killed?
Oh, she's cute alright. My little 5 lb protector who is afraid of her own shadow but didn't think twice about chasing away a Pit Bull who was trying to play with her when she was sitting by me.
they know way more than we do, jes cus they don't talk and do the things we do. thats what coyote wants people to think, hes a creator and master at trickery.
i got bit by a coyote, and they tried to ambush and gang up on my dog, but i dispersed them with my rifle. the little bastards out where i used to live were extremely agressive, and hunted in packs. they even were known to stalk humans. they are not cute.
Well, I got attacked in Idaho. I live in Alaska now, where coyotes are as much of a problem as wolves. But the little jerks are so bold down there in Idaho, and I never knew they worked as packs until there was a bunch of glowing eyes and yipping all around me after dark.
coyote are so cool, song dogs! I respect them allot... but because their numbers are skyrocketting and 16% of their diet is deer and because we want to see fawns survive on our ranch, we shoot coyotes. The problem near town is they prey on your pets. Cats and dogs. There is a documented case in Calf. of a Coyote carrying off a baby. so... ...
Protection laws and such have caused the over runnung of coyotes in the states. There are more alive today than ever and their numbers are totaly growing.I love doing yoga on the deck while they are howling.I am totaly into them and I would never kill one unless it attacked me.Thanks for putting the video up.The vegan///Mansfield Arkansas USA
Its easy to be pro coyote or pro bear when you are living in New York city. The hardest is to be living with them in the country where they kill your pets and animals and still be for animal protection.I have lost many pygmy goats,Barbado Sheep, turkeys chickens ect because of coyotes and could totaly understand why people would wanna kill them.
You are one of few on this site who doesn"t derive pleasure in shooting them,& I thank you for appreciating them as I do.The government has sanctioned the aerial gunning of wolves & sanctioned the shooting of coyotes,& soon there will be too few left.Without them the world would not be the same.
They are very territorial & howl to let other coyotes know where their territory is. A lone, re-located, coyote would be killed if he tried to invade another"s territory. I wish I lived on 1000 acres filled with coyotes so I could hear them howl all night,& no hunting would be allowed.
I love hearing the coyotes howl. With more and more houses being built around us, the coyotes are getting squeezed into smaller forest land. So sad. But they adapt.
That's cool lol I always hear cayotes were I live

Yes. Many cats are killed by roaming coyotes.

Coyotes have a wide range of vocalization from traditional howls to barks and yips and screams. That is definately a coyote.
