Could someone please help ?! I've recently got the dv6-6b90ee with really high spec... up to 8gb of ram 1tb of HDD and 2GB dedicated VGA but it's lagging and acting slow when I'm installing something I asked for a replacement and they gave me one... but it's still doing the same. I'M FRUSTRATED !!!
Hi. I also own a dv6 Pavilion, but an older version (2010). I'm currently having problems with its audio jack. I tried using good functioning headphones, but I can only hear the sound from my right speaker. If I try to apply pressure on the cord near the male connector (i.e. bend it down), then the sound will come out fine in both L and R speakers. Can you help me identify the problem with my aud. input? I think it became loose due to perennial use. How do I fix this? Thanks
@someonewzhere Lol Wrong. I've used multiple headphones on my pc's audio jack, and the same problem persisted. My phones work on all other devices btw.
Hey, did you notice a significant temperature drop with the new thermal compound? I bought the AS5 but haven't applied yet. My Pavilion is an i7 1.6Ghz and it REALLY burns.
Hi, On the HP Website under Support & Drivers there is a Service Manual PDF that u could download and it will give you part numbers and configurations for the motherboards etc.
So basically if u want to change ur configuration you have to choose the motherboard that can fit into ur laptop chasis then choose matching socket processor & heatsink-fan combo.
U then have to check prices of these parts on Ebay and ship them to ur home.
The disassemble has to be done carefully, profes. and diligently.
Hi, I have this exact same model. When i reassemble, the motherboard shut down as soon as i connect the finger print reader cable.
I wanted to know if this could be a problem with the cable being bent or something like that..?.
Secondly there is a new set of DV6 with beats Audio and i am searching for videos about how to change the Keyboard as my my new dv6 2011 model had some bad keys.
Can you please guide regarding how to pull out the keyboard on the New DV6 with Beats Audio?.
Thank you!! I have the exact model and simply went to clean my fan, when I put it back together it didn't power on.. After watching your video, I was able to learn how to take apart the keyboard, and the hard disk, and plug in the three cables under the keyboard I had accidentally unplugged.. So, all the way from Australia.. Thanks heaps, your video was also very well made, I'll check out your others now..
just answer one question please! can we upgrade the cpu of this same model laptop dv6-3120se from core i3 to core i5??? please its important... thank you
@danman132x thanks for the help..but actually i dont have much knowledge when it comes to upgrading laptops....if its not too much to ask can i please get ur email address so that i can get some more things cleared out and i dont know my chipset model to start with... if you could help me more.. it would be very kind of you. thank you once again. another question i had in mind is that can i put in a 2nd generation cpu. if i could get ur email address it would be very helpful
MAN THANX SO MUCH... i have almost the same notebook...i have tryed to open it but i couldn't .....i was searching for this kind of video from about 3-4 months... great job . :)
@Koryo8 you have to remove quite a bit, actually pretty much everything if you want to remove the fan entirely. You can remove a little bit also though and just blow it out really good.
Hi! I have a 3052NR. I wish I had a sandy its the non Sandy vs. But oh well. My question is...do you know if the build is the same? Or is it another different puzzle? Im afraid of cracking it open with out a video like yours to follow encase i get lost

@qoto well, I strongly reccomend you not to do it yourself. I have wasted my Compaq preserio because of this even though It was like the 10th time for me.. It is always a risk..
do you find your dv6 is quite hot when running?can i change my fan or will opening it up to clean it help it at all? im so lost im burning myself on my latop and its on been ideling for 15 mins on the home screen....help :(
Thanks for posting this video it helped me to figure out how to access cooling fan. Didn't realize it was simple to remove the keyboard. Thanks again!
Excellent video!!! I took a dv6 apart on 12-5-2011 but didn't put it back together until 1-5-2012 and there was a rectangular piece of plastic that I couldn't remember where it came from. Your video revealed that it was the piece just over the processor fan. This was not in the HP dis-assembly guide.
@tsonevniki AMD GPU Clock Tool 0.9.26.0 (not 0.9.8) will allow you to OC the 6490. Install it from techpowerup, run, boost core/ram clocks, use a benchmarker like Furmark or MSI Kombustor to see results/check for artifacts. Comp temperature will increase minimally since you can't up the voltages. The processor is locked down, you're not changing that one's speeds.
I have HP Pavilion dv6-2180sm (6GB DDR3, Nvidia GeForce GT 320m, Intel Core i5 2,27GHz), and I want to change graphic card and procesor. What graphic card and processor need to buy to launch Battlefield 3 on maximum. Price is not important.
what is the proper way to use the compressed air cans for this model laptop? do you have to take it apart like you have or just take the keyboard off to access the fan?
Ive been told not to use compressed air straight into the side vent, but no one tells me how to do it properly with this laptop.
@wvzimmer that is usually the place where the cpu heatsink is. It is used to spread out heat from your processor so your laptop wont get damaged. Nearly all laptops do this so dont worry.
Ok so I bought the HP Pavilion dv7 which is basically the same model as this but with a AMD Phenom II Triple Core 2.0 processor and I'm wondering if it is possible to upgrade the processor to an Intel Core i5? If so please reply, Thanks!
@Tig3rS1 For a quick guess, I would say something is up with the heatsink not making good contact with the CPU. The GPU might be on a different heatsink that still bolted down right. Make sure your vents are clean, get some compressed air and blow it out well for now. I would find someone, a friend or someone you trust, to open it up for you for a cheap price and re apply some thermal paste.
@b0rNc0nfuS3d1 It was custom ordered. But product XN078AV and its a dv6t quad edition. There was a sticker on the back of the keyboard with the replacement part number I think, but I didn't take a picture of it.
I just wanted to clean the fan and the ventilation area..Can i just do until the removal of keyboard part?
This Laptop Tends to get hot easily, i have it paired with Zalman NC3000u , still when surfing the net or video watching , it will shoot up to roughly around 60-65 celcius, is that a normal temp for that operation
I was told that the graphics card in the Dv6 is hard to replace but was thinking of upgrading from a radeon 6490m to a 6990m is it possible with this laptop? and how much would the whole thing cost to get done ?
@ROFLSAURUSREXABLE I think it would be difficult. It's soldered into the motherboard at the factory, can't really just change the chip out. Would need the entire motherboard
ANYONE WHO HAS THIS LAPTOP ,i have forgotten which sized screws go where can anyone tell me whhich ones go in which spots, my screws have colours on them
HI!!! thi is an awesome video... but I changed my keyboard and now i have the problem that the light of the keyboard doesn't work.. do you know why this is happening?? Thanks man!!
I was considering taking mine apart last night to find the part code for the altec speakers since I blew the left one from using an equalizer on Linux. I'm pretty gutted, but this laptop looks like the same as HP G6-1014sa. Hopefully I can take it apart this time, thanks for the video.
@theROCKisAmagic put some better thermal paste on it. Factory job is horrible. It works, but since this one already runs hot, every little bit counts. A core i7, with a small fan just doesn't cut it in this enclosed space. It only helped a small bit though, MX-4
hey man, cool video, but now i want to know how to see the lcd # of my laptop, because somehow it broke (i think its the lcd because its kind of broken from the "inside"), so could u please answer this.
my dv6-3163cl that is very similar has a small threaded cylinder that I am not sure where it goes. The threads fit the screws that hold the case together. Any idea where it may go?
I have a similar model and the trackpad buttons are VERY stiff. Do you know if I can open it up and somehow make the buttons more easier to click? I have the dv6-3240ca model and it annoys the hell out of me...
Mine won't turn on anymore, it indicates it's charging/charged but the light doesn't come on when I turn it on and nothing happens... Anything I've missed? There was 3 things that I noticed weren't plugged in near where it says "Dolby Advanced Audio" and I've put them in but nothing still happens. Did I possibly kill it from static? I've been touching metal stuff like the screw driver, pliers, hd casing and all.
@KenanVideos Hopefully it didn't mess anything up without those connectors plugged in. I don't see how it could though. Just go ahead and take it all apart again and double check everything, and make sure you discharge yourself on some metal other than the laptop. I used an anti static band for my first disassembly, but got lazy the 2nd time I took it apart since I forgot the fan connector.
@danman132x my left side for the bracket holding on the screen broke all plastic peices and the plastic trim around it how do i fix this and my screw goes threw the whole bac because the plastic piece keeping the screw from going in is broken and gone what should i do
@KenanVideos this has happened to a lot of laptops. i only found out what the problem was last week. Most modern laptops let you get all the static out by taking out the battery and charger and holding down the power button for about 30 seconds. If it is a static problem you should be able to feel it through your hand after about 20 seconds.
oh god i took apart my dv6 and cannot for the love of god find a way of reconnecting the keyboard, touch pad and finger print scanner please show me how :(
@awesomemcrad They should be simple zero insertion force connectors. It should have a little flap you flip up to pull out the connector, and to put it back in all you have to do is make sure the flap is up, slide the connector in, the push the flap down. Usually there's a lil white or black line to make sure it's all the way in, but you can feel when it's in. I will try to take a video of how to insert the connectors soon then. They keyboard is always the trickiest since you have limited room
Yeah the first time I totally forgot to hook up the fan connector. Told me on the boot screen and wouldn't go further. Dumb mistake, easily taken apart the second time. On your first post, yeah a quick connector I skipped the 2nd time around, but it is easy to get to. From all the reviews I been reading, and on newegg, the mx-4 is better. I have to say me reapplying the thermal paste helped a lot. it still runs around the same temps, but at a higher clock speed when turbo boosting.
Do you think repasting will really help lower my temps at load??
It's really odd, because at normal use the temps are stable at 60ish, it's only when I stress the CPU with some simulation or gaming that the CPU temps go up to 95ish, but once I stop it, it goes back to 60 within a few seconds... Another odd thing is that even though both the CPU and GPU use the same heatsink, the max temp I recorded on the GPU was 67C.
@guisaidler Around 60 seems pretty high for idle. Mine right now, computer on a couple hrs, and online is idling at 52-54. It did that with stock paste too. When it really shine is under load. I do video editing using Roxio Video Wave and when it encodes, it runs much quicker. Before it would do so many frames, pause a second, and do this cycle over and over. Now it almost constantly encodes without pausing. Using GPU-Z, my max temps on the GPU are also around 65-67 as you. Tested playing...
... Metro 2033. Plays pretty well for me on high settings, but studders a lil under ultra high. Although the CPU and GPU are using the same heatsink, they do have their own copper heat pipes which is probably why the GPU temps don't get quite as high. Honestly HP should have put another fan or bigger heatsink on these quad core systems. Although the processors can run that high, I'm sure the lifespan of the laptop would be a few more years overall if it ran cooler. I would do it if I were you.
@danman132x Yeah I will do it. HP must have done a terrible job with the stock thermal paste, I don't see any other reason for these high temperatures, specially because my notebook is exactly the same as yours, except that the CPU is an i7-2630QM, which has lower clocks and should run cooler than yours and not hotter =/
Do you think there could be any other reason for these high temps besides the thermal paste?
I've read on some forums about people who buy HP laptops and the first thing they do is reapply the thermal paste because HP is known for these kind of issues.
@guisaidler I've read stuff like that also, but I have had 3 other HP's in the past with no heat problems. The only negative stuff I really read about HP is heat. Other companies like Gateway and Dell all have more computers sent in for repairs than HP. If I were you, I would just take yours apart and give it a good look over. Also check the hp support website to get the latest BIOS
Couple more questions: You say you had to disassembly it twice because the computer told you forgot to hook the fan conector... Did you actually forget it or was it something else??
And is the Arctic Cooling MX4 the thermal paste you recommend? Reading through some reviews i found that Arctic Silver 5 is actually better.
For some reason my DV6T-4000 CTO reaches 97C while gaming so i obviously need to reapply the thermal paste!
One question though, while reassemblying, at ~10:20 didn't you forget to connect a blue cable at the top right of the notebook (not they way it is in the video, the actual top right corner)
thank now I know how to clean out my fan and renew the paste

@danman132x Thats very nice!

@danman132x ...
Do you think there could be any other reason for these high temps besides the thermal paste?
I've read on some forums about people who buy HP laptops and the first thing they do is reapply the thermal paste because HP is known for these kind of issues.
guisaidler 8 months ago

Reading through some reviews i found that Arctic Silver 5 is actually better.

very nice!! exactly what i was looking for!
Thanks!
