One thing I do is use a firm brush or hold the bristles of a face brush tight and buff it out with small circular motions. That works alot more than the sponge.

Great tips, thank you for the time you put into making it for everyone. I use a synthetic stippling brush (MAC 187), I lightly dab it in finishing powder (Stila Hydrating Finishing Powder), tap off the excess and stipple to remove and blend out the oopsie :)
