  • omg

  • What's frightening is that Terry Bozzio is many MANY times greater than he was back when this was recorded.

  • @woodchipthebitches Shut up man

  • I think he has 20 bass drums. The dude has been sick like this forever, like 45 years.

  • Killer solo! What year was this?

  • @cannonball21 - 1977

  • Animal!

  • true master in his time :-)

  • its Tarzan on drums!

  • is he using ...crashes?

  • If he wore clothes... they would've caught fire!!!

  • Terry is awesome.

  • Utter rubbish

  • I love the fact that back then he'd tear into the drumkit like a pitbull. Just incredible stamina and energy not to mention chops.

  • this guy totaly made rhythim his BIOTCH! He was all like, yo rhythim?! And rhythim was all like ya baby. And he was all like. You wanna do allitle sumpin sumpin. Then rhythim was all lke, oh heelllll NO! And he then got up on a high chair and proceeded to slap the shizit out of rhythim! And rhythim then paid him the beats he was owed. And nine months later this solo was born!

  • @woodchipthebitches It's spelled rhythm...

  • Someone told me he was the best and like he is one of the best but far from the best

  • what dvd is tgis on? baby snakes?? help!?

  • @melliecharm Yep, Baby Snakes.

  • god damnnnnnn!

  • Man that is way too slow. lol

  • He should have auditioned for Dream Theater!!

  • @irwin3036able Playing for Frank Zappa is far more prestigious than playing for Dream Theater. Still much respect to Mike Portnoy.

  • I wouldn't want to be his drumheads.

  • bit sloppy on the kicks there terry. fucking legendary

  • Like him better then than now. He's become too sophisticated in my opinion.........I guess we all evolve as musicians........but have you ever noticed that almost all the great players who've gotten old............all sounded like they were taking a lot more chances when they were younger ? Except Buddy Rich

  • @STIXAHOY lol your so right man.

  • I almost had a heart attack

Only Bruce Lee (if he had been a drummer) could have topped that.

  • @billyjoeboomboom don't forget chuck norris

  • he looked like the antichrist near the end of the video, lol. kick ass solo.

  • Anybody else think he sort of looks like James Franco? :p

  • DRUM SOLO!!!

  • People need to keep in mind the pedals back in the 70's were primative in comparision with whats used today. No robots building hardware no computers testing acousics in drum R&D. By the looks of it he's using a Sling or Rodgers kit if im not wrong on the vid

  • @Taikomaniac pretty sure it's a syndrum quad

  • Bozzio is unique in all fashions a changling from appearance to playing.

An athletic beast early in his carreer as a player. Terry was the package looks, humor wit, charisma style during the 70's and 80's. Marrried a centerfold and had plenty of groopy action to the liking. Terry has given the drumming community approaches to ostinato playing that we all need to thank him for. His solos have an african flare and dynamic comosition. Terry was pumped during this solo and blows off in speed

  • ...don't know what the putdowns are about...this percussionist is obviously very passionate and talented

  • Drum sound= garbage.

  • @GWTFDrummer - Hes better then you will ever be fudd.....

  • Saw Bozzio with Jeff Beck...Volcanic chops and style.

  • @Easleytee Jeff Beck Called Bozzio the best drummer he ever played with and he's played with about 6 or 7 hall of famers

  • Kick ass percussion!

  • is he wearing speedo's

  • ive seen it many times but its always bad ass

  • Bozzio cornered the market on sleaze a long time ago. This solo is freak-nasty! He's tied with Wackerman as my fav Zappa drummer.

  • Now THIS is the reason Terry Bozzio is my all time favourite drummer. Yes, on a technical level, one of Zappa’s other drummers Vinnie Colaiuta maybe a *slightly* better drummer, but you just can't beat Bozzio's killer mixture of skill and energy.

  • Comment removed

  • BLAST BEATS!!

  • is he wearing a speeo?

  • Frank said that Terry wasn't his favorite drummer to play with, possibly because of their different styles, but my god is Terry AMAZING! Strange how he followed the path of his beloved Punky Meadows when he formed Missing Persons with Dale, Warren, and Patrick O'Hearn.

  • 1:33 to 1:45 any musicians listening to this can hear the toms tuned to a triad as he plays from the 1-3 up to the 5th of the triad.amazing bit of musicianship 95% of the schmuck listeners out there don't even realize!

  • @fadethetrade

hmm, bit of an asshole are we?

  • Terry is the man i have seen him live several time , his playing is just mind bending.

  • He's an ANIMAL!!!!

  • The 'man thong' was one of Terry's coolest riffs....but they definitely made homophobes squeamish. Guys back then had to be comfortable with their own sexuality to really dig Terry fully :)

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fucking unbelievable & how can some human play soooooo good!

    Megaufo777

  • @MEGAUFO777 Oh ya, Excellent stuff! Seen Zappa live several times but no Terry Bozio unfortunatly. They were excellent shows though.

  • what's with the thong???!!!!

  • makes a drum solo look like a whole goddamn action movie!!!including sex scenes!!!!

  • Holy Snap, Sean Penn plays drums just like Terry Bozzio.

  • "He has a tendency to frenzy out a little bit, but I figure that's because he's from San

    Francisco." - FZ

  • NOBODY has EVER played like TB. sorry , Not even Billy Cobham

  • W O W! This is from 1979 and hasn't been matched since! There are still youtubers and bloggers who claim Charlie Benate, Joey Jordison or Daney Carey are better double bass drummers, but this video proves them exhaustably laughable!!! I'm sure they have nothing better to comment on than his facial gestures and speedo, but that is true testamony to thier inteligence and talent!!

We'll see what other drummers are still influential 35 years from now!

  • I love the faces he makes... HAHA

  • My favorite part is when the awesome camera man zooms in to his face for the best part of the solo for a full minute instead of showing him playing the drums.

  • 1:44 is a high point in human history

  • Dude, he's a total heavy metal drummer but he can play so much else, love those blast beats adn double bass runs.

  • Terry Bozzio is a beast, I have the Baby Snakes DVD, but sadly they cut out this drum solo from the thing.

  • It was all good until he revealed his man thong.

  • @pitchingwedge1 I'm sure Zappa insisted that he wear it.

  • @pitchingwedge1 you should try sitting there playing like him. i bet there's HOT, i mean, REAL hot.

  • @pitchingwedge1

    shut the fuck up !

  • @handyhanks Wow what a totally original reply. Did you think that all up on your own troll king?

  • @pitchingwedge1 and then it was great

  • @pitchingwedge1 Try drumming like that in your Old Navy Classics foo.

  • hooooooooooly SHIT!!

  • sorry for asking, but compared to WHO does bozzio's drumming seem 'tame'?

  • By today's supersteroid drumming standards Terry seems tame, but without him none of the guys who are today considered 'better' than he is would exist. He has been without question the single biggest influence on modern drumming.

  • @jonsilence You are hopelessly forgetting about Buddy Rich. Please don't do that again.

  • @blackfloyd23 ehhh buddy rich was an amazing player, but a total douche bag

  • @Cubert555 Hah, true. I doubt he died with a single true friend to his name.

  • @blackfloyd23 Haha yea I suppose so, but music isnt just about being the best player ever, its about sharing your stuff with others, as well as you taking stuff from them in order to improve, and also just hangin with other musicians who enjoy the same styles as you, this is where the friendship part comes into play :)

  • for me...its keith moon..wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out there...then bozzio....bonham is nothing special to me..like at all

  • @jaqua524 Bonham is referred to by more drummers (as an influence) than anyone else.I'm tired of hearin about him myself...facts are facts... TB refers to JHB as an influence...I try to be as objective as possible, knowing my knowledge is limited, he's the link between the 60's flat sound to full sounding ,distinguishable, great sounding drums..he was also based in fundamental playing as well as the touch he had

his stuff was anything but routine...he' also just one piece in the puzzle

  • @tjfreak Yes, but Terry is a very big piece of the puzzle!

  • @jaqua524 the way you feel about bonham is how i feel about moon, go figure.

  • @badmammal well i am a drummer now, and its changed...moon is sitll the best in my opinion..but to say bonham is nothing special is absolutely rediculous...john bonham is incredible..his sense of groove, and beat in between the beats..like his take on the purdie half time shuffle in fool in the rain? brilliant..bonham was a groove machine..and those eighth note triplets he plays on the bass drum in good times bad times..phew.

  • one of the greatest drummer ever....absolutely amazing...Terry Bozzio

  • what is the kind of synth he is using at 1:51 ?? if anyone know thats really cool !

    PEACE

  • I saw this guy when Zappa played the DC Cap Center in 1975 or so - he was just like this, like a savage animal pouncing on the drums - very athletic, very strong & dramatic drumming

  • Terry Ted is really sweet. Watch the way he keeps the beat!

  • woooooooooohhoooo!!!!!!!!!

  • CLEAN FLAM ACCENTS ON THE FEET! My life has lost its purpose

  • @simplyunclassifiable not - so - clean. listen again.

  • @adoll000 Who, prior to or in that period of time, late seventies, can you compare him with specifically with respect to performing flams like these with one's feet? Who preceded Terry in this?

  • One of my favorite drummer "TERRY BOZZIO"

  • Will any of you naysaying idiots please post your transcription and your live, unedited version of this solo? For instance. how many measures long was the solo? Did he include the intro or play just the chorus? Does the solo follow the song form in tonality?

  • 1:30 min he fuck the drums!

  • Capo

  • Food for the soul. If you don't appreciate what he does, you aint got one. My sympathies are with you.

  • check out hot for teacher van halen

  • essayez de faire ok

  • u all funnin. This is a lion that had darts thrown at his hind quarters in a cage and they led that cage to a drum set and the lion went bizzerke! hahhaaaahahah

  • Bozzio is my Elvis

  • This is before he clipped his testicles and turned into sheman

  • Clockwork.

Kids, you can all sell your drum kit now.

  • @IdahoAngler2 lol, this smells like win.

  • wtf is he wearing?

  • @CloudBlues22 not much :P its like this...speedo sort of thing

  • Steve Vai once said, on working with Terry Bozzio for his "Sex & Religion" album, that "Terry Bozzio is the Steve Vai of the drum world....and I am Terry Bozzio of the guitar world".

    Couldnt agree more.

  • troppo forte!!!

  • BEST DRUM SOLO EVER!!!! ALL HAIL BOZZIO

    RIP FRANK

  • oh my fu*king god! That's one crazy son of a bitch! He played with Jeff Beck at least on one Jeff's albums :D maybe he's played even on more albums :D I don't know :S

  • anyone got the tab 4 this?

  • @polosev YOUR CRAZY!!

  • Killer vid !!!!!

  • Is this Terry playing a solo by Keith Moon...just curious?

  • 2:15 KAWAAAAABUNGAAAA

  • Ginger Baker's love child.

  • Is he a gay?

  • @s0100699

No, but he's a little fond of chiffon in a wrist array

  • animals all over lol

  • World class musician

  • Cracks me up that Zappa asked Micky Dolenz to be his drummer. No WAY could Dolenz match this! Nooooooo way!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow how come he doesn't play like that anymore? i hate bozzio these days

  • @checkabreak

check out Fantomas w/Bozzio ... and hate no more

  • Love it!

  • very good solo in the beginning of terry bozio`s carriere (at this time he is 17 years old ?)...

  • This is the famous "Hands With A Hammer solo"..

  • It must have driven Terry nuts to play such a simple beat when he wuz in Missing Persons.

  • @vveq Whattaya talkin' about? He co-wrote most of the music in Missing Persons! It was HIS band! And if you listen to the albums, the drumming is hardly simple or basic.

  • @vveq missing persons had some the coolest rock drumming of all time, bozzio's two most incredible pieces can be found on FZ's "Sheik Yer Bouti" the track "Yo Mama" during the solo section and "UK's" "Danger Money" album the track "Carrying No Cross", also during the solo section....check em out!

  • @warbirdfotos Terry was in UK???

  • @AtanasovPeter you are kidding i assume?

  • @warbirdfotos why should i be kidding??? I don't know if he was in UK so i ask....

  • @AtanasovPeter a simple youtube search of "terry bozzio uk danger money carrying no cross" and youd have found out for yourself

  • @anaamee

Nothing like a friendly argument about music on Youtube. Personally, I think Matt Abts from Gov't Mule can play circles around the '60s drummers everyone worships. Vai vs. Hendrix - not fair. I personally saw Dweezil Zappa *OBLITERATE* Vai at Zappa Plays Zappa 3 times during the summer of 07. Hendrix would *SMOKE* Vai. Frank is the only rock guitarist who can/could outplay Hendrix in my not so humble opinion.

  • @IgnatiusChinaski

im sure Steve Vai was only being polite to Dweezil having seen both at different times.

  • Frank Zappa composed pretty much every single note of the "Black Page" drum part (and llthe rest) but I assume this particular part is Bozzio's own improvisation, right?

  • Absurd. So much better than the usual guys that everyone always says were/are the best - Peart, Bonham, Moon, etc.

  • @IgnatiusChinaski Lets refrase that...

Everyone who's into rock n roll (and roll and roll only) says that those three are/were the best, when they're nowhere near close, even though neil peart is an outsanding rock drummer.... anyway, besides Bozzio, try Dave Weckl, Gary Husband and especially Vinnie Colaiuta... those guys will make a Sex Pistols drummer out of "legends" like Bonham

  • @IgnatiusChinaski Maybe Terry Bozzio is/was the best drummer in term of technique. But his influence was not better than bonham, peirt and moon, who gave to the world of rock drumming more ! Just like comparing Hendrix with Steve Vai...

  • Was mr Zappa proud of this young virtuoso that night? I certianly think so.

  • WOW!!!!! what incredible drummer!!!!!

  • soooo fucking good!

  • What joy!

  • Este es el mejor batero. This is the best solo drummer.

  • ' Incredible'

  • good drummer no sound effects please

  • @zappahart why not? sound effects are awesome.

  • @Poonard hey i believe he is one of the best but he doesnt need sound effects thats all

  • Comment removed

  • just check the year of the video "please"

    ;-)

  • by the look on his face i think he should have worn combats instead of speedos he's gonna shoot his seed lol

  • Great!!! The number one!!!

  • Damn that was good.

  • lovin the random sex faces :P

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

    *brain exploded*

  • Holy crap!

  • Even freakier than the speedo is the amazing talent.

  • What an all around good drummer

  • BaDDass....

  • when I see Terry rockin out like this all I can think of is..... Animal from the muppets. but seriously, best drummer ever!!

  • Jamming on the skins in his underpants what freedom!

  • This movie came out in '79, but the concert was from the NY Halloween shows of '77.

  • What's with drumming practically naked?

I guess it takes a big pair to get out there in a speedo and do a solo.

    Ha, ha!

  • My arse

  • is he wearing a speedo?

  • hopefully

  • Comment removed

  • Shit!, hard to believe its the same guy as every other vid, huh?
