At Blaine High School in Minnesota where I go, our football team took second state for Class 5A (the big schools), our head coach gets paid $4000 a year...for the hundreds of hours he puts in. That's less than 10 bucks an hour if you figure it out. He could take a part time job at Target and make more. It's not about the money.

Anyone can bully. Anyone can get preferential treatment for a given reason. Anyone can be dumb. I know dumb people who play sports, but I know people who are also very smart and work very hard in school who also play sports. I don't know about your school, but my school gives no real preferential treatment to jocks at all. Nothing centers around them, and typically you get less credit (for college purposes and such) for doing a sport than you would for being a part of a club.
you can typically find people who are like that anywhere. someone who is a bully, people who get preferential treatment, and people who are not academically strong well that can be found in any person. not just jocks.
and not only do you see things like that in high school, but out of high school to such as work, the media, even in friends and family maybe.

I never played football but I wrestled in high school. This part of the movie always makes me think about when I wrestled. I remember at the state tournament my senior year I thought about the line "forever is about to happen in a few minutes" and it's damn true. Not a day goes by that i don't think of my teammates and the 4 years we had. Id do anything to back and do it all over again

i havent grown up in a football town, and ive only played 2 seasons, but this movie had a huge impact on me. i love the game and will continue to play it. i cried towards the end of this movie
one of the best speeches i've ever heard, this movie is hard to understand unless you have been in the shoes of these players, maybe not in a state championship game, but as a high school athlete.
I would laugh my ass off if there was an outtake of this scene where Billy Bob Thornton makes the line about Bobby Miles "would die to be out there on that field with you tonight", and Derek Luke (Miles) acting on a goofball impulse broke character and was like "Yeah right, coach" and the whole room just bursted out laughing lol... but regardless a perfect scene and my favorite in the entire movie, kudos to those that made it so special

We have all played high school football. This was not an ordinary game, these kids had no out of texas to play football, because they weren't raised to be that smart, they were raised to play football, only a few made it out. This is nothing like any game we have every played, because most of us never have been in a position like this. You may have had a big game, but for people to have lives riding on this game, nothing comes close.
Because they are true stories. And I think just about every team says the Lord's Prayer before going out these days. And I believe they should. I remember when I wasin high school they tried to tell us we couldn't due to seperation of church and state so we just had the coaches leave the room and did it on our own
At my Highschool in Washington State we never once said a prayer before a game. I think its like illegal to do that or something but I know in our area we never do prayers.
we used to say the exact same prayer before every game. it gave me chills everytime but it brought us luck cause it lead us to for unbeaten seasons in a row
i played for the 3A state championship in alabama in 2005...we led the game 6-2 going into the 4rth quarter. with 3:12 left to go in the game on 4th and 6 on our opponents 30 yd line our QB threw an interception that got ran back for a TD and we lost the state championship 10-6. this movie brings back so many memories of that game

Anyone can bully. Anyone can get preferential treatment for a given reason. Anyone can be dumb. I know dumb people who play sports, but I know people who are also very smart and work very hard in school who also play sports. I don't know about your school, but my school gives no real preferential treatment to jocks at all. Nothing centers around them, and typically you get less credit (for college purposes and such) for doing a sport than you would for being a part of a club.

you can typically find people who are like that anywhere. someone who is a bully, people who get preferential treatment, and people who are not academically strong well that can be found in any person. not just jocks.
and not only do you see things like that in high school, but out of high school to such as work, the media, even in friends and family maybe.
every enviroment is different. dont be too quick to judge.

yea seriously the "jock" stereotype is a joke. i am good friends with many football players and basketball players, and most of them are really cool guys. sure, there are dicks on the football team, but than again there are dicks on the debate teams. in fact, moat student athletes i know get exceptionally good grades.

You can learn more about life in one serious football game than your entire school career. I wish some of you guys understood what it is like, if you can relate, this movie speaks to you in more ways that you can describe. I can only guess what it was like for these guys in their state championship.

Oh and believe me, you couldn't pass with even a 20% in of my engineering exams, and i nailed a 94 percentile last wednesday when less than half of my class failed it. sorry but the idea of being a success and a winner came from sports and i owe my thanks to it. I never played football but I wrestled in high school. This part of the movie always makes me think about when I wrestled. I remember at the state tournament my senior year I thought about the line "forever is about to happen in a few minutes" and it's damn true. Not a day goes by that i don't think of my teammates and the 4 years we had. Id do anything to back and do it all over again

I know what you mean. I played football and I wrestled and this is one of my favorite movies. Brings alot of memories back to me. Thats the only thing about Highschool that I miss is the sports, the locker room chatter, my friends whom I don't get to see all the time like I did.
Overall great movie. Its probably the most realistic of all the sports movies far as the emotions go as a highschooler playing sports. You get to see the emotion of success and the pain of failure all in the movie

I would laugh my ass off if there was an outtake of this scene where Billy Bob Thornton makes the line about Bobby Miles "would die to be out there on that field with you tonight", and Derek Luke (Miles) acting on a goofball impulse broke character and was like "Yeah right, coach" and the whole room just bursted out laughing lol... but regardless a perfect scene and my favorite in the entire movie, kudos to those that made it so special

We have all played high school football. This was not an ordinary game, these kids had no out of texas to play football, because they weren't raised to be that smart, they were raised to play football, only a few made it out. This is nothing like any game we have every played, because most of us never have been in a position like this. You may have had a big game, but for people to have lives riding on this game, nothing comes close.

I remember when I wasin high school they tried to tell us we couldn't due to seperation of church and state so we just had the coaches leave the room and did it on our own

i played for the 3A state championship in alabama in 2005...we led the game 6-2 going into the 4rth quarter. with 3:12 left to go in the game on 4th and 6 on our opponents 30 yd line our QB threw an interception that got ran back for a TD and we lost the state championship 10-6. this movie brings back so many memories of that game

You what ive seen this movie 50 times and in my grade 12 season we were the black and white team and the other team was red and silver and we lost 36-28 on the 5 yard line on 4th and inches with 3 secconds left our tackle let up a sack...season over. we also only lost 3 games all season and the team that beat us went undefeated
