The "transitional" southern power band was inefficent in how it would employ extra drummers and at least one extra virtuoso guitarist. Looking back on it, the effect was stunning as the prerequisite for timeless music will always be songs backed by great percussion while the effect of the battling protagonistic guitars seemed to spill out wide open at full throttle.
Being an Asian man that grew up in the States and have been a fan of the Allman Bros. long enough to have seen them perform with Duane, I'm pleasantly surprised to see all the positive feedback from most everyone here. Kudos to all of you. I'd hang with you guys anytime. That being said. I grew up with every third Asian I knew being proficient at the keyboards and I wonder why they left that out . Chuck Leavell's solo was the crowning touch to this song.
I love the strong sound of the Strat at the beginning and especially at 1:47. And yes, like the rest of you perverts, I was wondering if I should start thinking about maybe lusting after the lead player, when...OOPS!
I've been a huge fan of the Allman Bros, Dickie Betts and all those guys for 3 decades. I've been to many dozens of Allman Bros concerts and shows and tried myself to play the rythym lead on this song for years. It's one of the most complex beat structures I've ever tried and still I can't get it right after 30 years. Imagine, seeing these Asian guys and that little conga player knock the shit out of this tune. One of the best covers I've ever heard of Jessica.
What a nice surprise for a passing tourist! Very nice job, and thanks for posting. It's always nice to see gems like this successfully crossing cultural boundaries.
I at first thought I was gonna see the real Allman's. Than I thought do they have an Asian guitarist? Finally I saw the big picture and you know what, I liked it! Thanks. Homeless boy, keep your boiled Irish balls and vienna sausage. And enjoy this version.
This song kept me up in bed when I was about 16 years old. It was the tune from the AFN radio from Brunssum, The Netherlands. The program was called Old Golg Retold (what I remember..)..Lot's of good music...I lived near the Amarican Airforce base in Soesterberg, Holland...and this song is an icon for me... Eric

what sucks is that a musician in the south can't hardly get a gig with a band that even knows an allman brothers tune. Mabye I should move to Japan!

I had the same reaction -- woah, that wasn't who I expected to see playing that song! But it rocked. Love the conga player.

This is an excellent cover of Rock's best instrumental--Maybe the microphone level on the bongo player could have been a little bit lower, however.
