It's entirely valid, and can be embarrassing if the one delivering it lacks timing, or speaks to an audience that is inappropriately adult or childish, or if it's just poorly authored. The best comedians of the style could go into a rapid fire machine gun delivery and still be both nuanced and profound and blunt and silly.

I gotta' call you out on Louis C.K - he's one the most talented Comedians in generations, as well as one of the most brilliant, inventive, yet accesible Writers in recent years. I used to listen to his stints on O&A for Three hours at a time and it was orgasmic...
