  • Where did you source this footage?

  • A waste of time , boy

  • mada

    yes i work on vessels.

something like this hapened to me in tubarao brazil, the conveyor fell on deck and everything went on in the main boards.

    and that was a capesize.

notice that the gantry has not yet fallen on dock and the smoke is already out of the funnel, maybe a coincidence wiht boiler, also note that only 3 people are seen on this footage, there fore only stand by gangway man should be on the premises. not one single lorry or truck is moving.

    fine weather

  • I forgot last time another argument to demonstrate that black smoke was not from emergency generator: on this kind of vessels EG have his own exhaust system and usually this exhaust system is on the main deck.

pandeptofijo Im curious on what kind of vessels you are working to and in what position (rank)?

  • With EG used like additional power supplier maybe you are right but only on small ships. On big and modern ships (especially container ships) there are at least 3 or 4 diesel generators (or sometime even 5) with big power supply (900-1000 kw and up) and the EG could be even 10 times smaller.

Starting the boiler its not part of the starting routine like you say. Boiler starts and stops automatically (in port more often) to maintain the temperature of the steam or oil (depends of boiler type).

  • For them the only connection with outside world is deck crew via walkie talkie, but I repeat: the time was to short for communication and to have the possibility to start manual another generator. Almost all systems on board of modern ships are working in auto mode and I doubt the ship have some sensors around the incident to sense the problem and start another generator.

  • still dont think so mada, vessels that size have aut anti heeling system, to avoid heels that can damage cargo or cranes or even impair vessels stabilty, check the times,

you really think that in a day that vessel is not working or waiting to start shift, somebody after feeling this kind of impact will continue with the starting engines routine?????????? like boiler?????

eg starts even when not in a black out. if main boards needs even more power, eg will start as suplimentary power source

  • My first question pandeptofijo: you work with/on ships? If yes what rank?

I know what an anti heeling system does but in my previous post I was not talking about this. I was saying about that black smoke 10 sec after impact of the gantry crane with the ship. On board of the ships are deck crew and there are responsible with supervising cargo operations and engine crew. You must know that from location where they are (engine room) they dont have any windows to see what is going on outside.

  • this is awesome, vessel impacted by several tonnes and did not tilt one single degree, the dark smoke coming out from the funnel is the emergency generator starting, for sure, smart vessel.

  • Not necessary to be emergency generator staring. Could be a stand-by generator or boiler. Usually emergency generator starts in case of black-out. Its almost impossible that the ship to be so smart and sense the problem. Its matter of seconds. I think was the boiler starting.

  • Die Containerbrücken gehöhren vielleicht besser gewartet!!!

  • Hmmm....

D'ya suppose it was still under warranty now? Maybe get a courier to send another one over.

  • the more and more i see the more and more i am thinking of jacking work lol

  • Wow.

  • CHINESE CRANES RULE

  • Chinese Crane? What makes you think this is a Chinese Crane? Are you American? You must be American.... Please tell me you´re American.

  • He is in fact American :P

  • the shadow foreshadows the collapse...

  • that is not cool, having the gantry boom falling off the crane like that. Probably scared the crap out of the ship crew and the crane operators. What happened anyway?

  • Thats not you driving is it Daryl?????
