Apparently McCain received better treatment (including medical care by Soviet physicians), b/c he was an Admiral's son. He tried to block the early POW/MIA stuff b/c he didn't want Hanoi to release the records that showed this, thus damaging his war story credentials.

hey thats not the complete truth. when he was first shot down he was in pretty bad condition. for 5 days, his captors did not provide medical care for him f.y.i. he had two broken legs a broken arm and clavicle. when they realized who his father was they provided medical care for the sole reason of using him as a anti war propaganda. see some of the videos of him in the hospital(it might be in youtube somewhere)

I haven't read his books to check his story against the Vietnam Vets Against McCain, but from what I gather he did receive good medical treatment, and went on to make propaganda tapes for the N. Vietnamese - not a big deal in my book. After torture, you'll do what you must, just words. VVAM assert that he gave military info also though.

Their real beef with him was that he obstructed the 80s POW/MIA hearings to conceal unflattering Hanoi records about his imprisonment. They are the same people were the Swiftboat Vets. So obviously its no politician partisanship, they have a genuine bone to pick, the question is whether their arguments are legitimate.

there is a video with mccain in it saying how much he wants to go home but there is about all he said. they also tried to make propaganda video out of him ( but he is a POW so they wont listen anyway) so they beat and tortured him. they again asked him if he would like to leave. again he refused because of some handbook in the army that says pow captured first leaves first. so they tortured him some more this is where the guard comes in.

Yeah, I've read that basic story. I looked on FactCheck /dot\ Org, but they haven't done an analysis of McCain's story. They did clear up the 5 planes misinformation.

I might have gotten some sketchy info, but what I'd seen was that McCain made videos for the NV, and I think that soldier in the South saw them on propaganda broadcasts. FactCheck did cover the Christian Guard story.

All speculation and potentially nasty smears aside, I did hear one good argument against McCain's POW stuff

He was offered an early release that he refused out of loyalty to his fellow prisoners. This decision led to five more years of imprisonment and torture that has left McCain permanently injured.

If you watched the Forum at Saddleback Church you would see why people want McCain for President. McCain answered questions directly and intelligently. McCain was very Presidential in his answers at the Forum, while Obama's refusing to give a straight answer on most of the questions, and in fact his answer or lack of answer on abortion...quote "It's above my pay grade" to respond. The media, even the liberal media said Obama lost badly. McCain has experience, Obama has none.
