One of the great songs from one of the very best Tull albums. Not one weak song there, the vocals are really fantastic and it rocks like hell, in spite of some really intricate playing. The greatest band out there, nothing compares to them.
How awesome! Thanks for uploading!!! I used to rent the Slipstream-video from our library so often that the staff was giving out to me, it was in my home most of the time cause I watched it every morning before school & when I came home.^^LOL
Very cool song from the A Album. This is by far and away one of Jethro Tull's most overlooked Albums. And i think it's a very good one and definitely one worth checking out. So do yourself a favor and buy this Album.
I always pass Fylingdales on the way to Whitby in the summer. I was up there recently and visited Thornton-Le-Dale and the magnificent Dalby Forest, I camped there once lol.
I can spend a lot of time going from one Jethro Tull song to the next, but whenever I get to this one, I find myself listening to it over and over again. I just love everything about it - the melody, the harmonies, the rhythm, the sci-fi aspect, etc. Not so into the lyrics, but that's true for me of most songs.
I know what you mean - it just works. It's not easy to define Tull's magic - the music is often very complex rhythmically, the arrangements are intricate, the technical demands on the musicians are pretty extreme and yet the tunes are so easy on the ear and the overall sound often simply beautiful - maybe at the heart of it all is that Ian has a wonderful gift for melody, both vocal and instrumental? I know I like most Tull songs on first hearing and this liking deepens on further listening
Jethro Tull's A album was a good album and Flyingdale Flyer is a great tune. Originally it was supposed to be an Ian Anderson solo project that ended up going under the Jethro Tull name. Some previous band members resented being passed over but come on Eddie Jobson is AWESOME!!!
The reasoning there of course was Martin Barre being invited along to the studio to play - the record label took note and declared it as a Jethro Tull, regardless of the fact that everyone else in the lineup were new!
As it is, it is an intriguing album - in places its usage of vocoders reminds me of ELO...
This is not bad album at all, you just have to give it a chance and listen without prejudice. It's different than Minstrel or Songs from the Woods but it has a couple of really good songs.
I have always been strangely connected with Jethro Tull music, especially this album. This is excellent track but shortened for the purpose of video editing in Slipstream, doesnt matter...JETHRO RULES!
Awesome excerpt from the rare "Slipstream" tape!! Best lineup JT ever had with Eddie Jobson on keyboards and the late Mark Craney on drums (sorely missed). Ian's facial expressions are priceless! Thanks janlah!!!
I didn't like the 'A' album, but I do love this track. wonder what it would have sounded like if played with messrs Barlow Evans and Palmer? We'll never know :(
this video is retarded (and the song is edited for some reason, did they really need to save 30 seconds?) but the song is one of my all-time favorite Tull songs (at least post-Seventies). The last time they sing the chorus and take it down a key, PERFECT!!!
There is a "A" cd with bonus DVD-included. That dvd is actually the above mentioned "Sliptream" and is not _that_ hard to find. I bought it from records shop, and it seem to be available at Amazon also. Check it out =)
This is INDEED a rare find...my dad was HEAVY into Jethro Tull when I was growing up, and this one literally called out to me when I first heard it at 5 years old. The "A" album is also rare to find these days unless you know a collector who has it. Please tell me where you found this!!!
This video is trippy.

Nice video, of course it reminds me of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". The lyrics are about nuclear early warning systems, though.
