ok free tune-up run a defrag like jk defrag or windows built in or defraggler, then run a temp file cleaner like cc cleaner or atf cleaner, then uninstal and programs you dont use anymore via control panel or pc decrapifier, then run a free virus scanner like malwarebytes or avg free or microsft security essentials then make sure your computer is up to date via microsoft update, (unless bootlegged win install) just be smart and dont install 50 ie toolbars to do regular defrags and your good :)

Thanks... but I now have an even bigger problem!!! I am stuck at the 'start in safe Mode' screen and it doesn't matter what option I choose, I return to that same screen. The computer seems to be stuck in a loop and Windows will not load. Oh woe is me!!!! Now I'm really stuck, and don't know what to do. I don't have the CD to boot it from! All I really care about is my files...images/home videos etc. If I could just get them I'd throw away the old computer and buy a new one!

Thanks for reply, but my pc is even sicker now! I tried to get windows to start up by using the XP disc. Not restore, but the 1st option, and went through the 'press F8' thingy, and it began to copy files or something. Then it said that the computer had to restart, which it did. All I can now see is a black screen with 'safe mode' in each corner and a message in a box which says something along the lines of windows cannot start or something... dont remember exactly. What a mess!
