What I like about Ricky Dillard is that he's not afraid to his music back to the Old School sound. Alot of Gospel artist today are doing the R&B and Hip Hop style of Gospel which is wonderful, I like diversity. To Comment on GAred1976: I think that Ricky has great vocal leads, such as Nikie Ross, Robin( who has been with Ricky for Years) and Elisha, just to name a few, even Sean "puffy" combs was an awesome director and soloist ....so don't knock Ricky for that....I think that he is an awesome man of God. Hey, maybe if you think you can do better, give him a call. I have his number ...:)
The only problem that I have always had with Ricky is that he never has been able to have any good leaders for his some to push them. I want to say the best cd that he had that was overall great was "Hallelujah". He actually had a lot of good leaders for that. Hezekiah Walker and LFC is the standard of not only having great songs, but leaders to push those songs. Ricky really needs to get some good vocal leaders to push his songs.

First let me say, Ricky Dillard is greatly missed in Chicago. NO CHOIR SOUNDS LIKE HIS!!! Theres a very distinct sound his choir has. He lead a workshop of college choirs in Illinois one year, and Ricky Dillard is a straight clown!!! He was fun and anointed too. I just have one question...Why dont bass/baritones EVER get any props in a black church choir??????? Its kind of annoying. I cant sing as high, but I can sing and have a nice voice. We rarely get recognized in rehearsals and all.
When Rev. James Cleveland came into prominence back in the 60s and 70s he liked the treble sound of the three part harmony so much that he eventually just cut out the bass/baritone section all together. after that everyone else followed his example, and now most choirs only have three part harmony.
Lemme correct you there...actually the person responsible for the current three part harmony that you hear no and also the first person to record a gospel choir was Dr. Mattie Moss Clark...

That makes sense very much though, because it really opened the music up. Where your bass used to be sort of static, it created space for the bass players to let loose. Technically, gospel bass players really have James to thank for allowing them to develop their craft to the point it is today.

Ricky Dillard has kept real choir music around and has not changed it at all. Thank God for him and his talents. Another real choir they are not new on the scene is Dexter Walker and Zion Movement. They are definitely doing their thing. I'm not taking anything from Choir Master Dillard my hat is off to you. I have every New Generation CD.

You know I don't say much on here anymore but I have to say this after my last 2 comments about Patrick Riddick and DW LOL - When we sang in Chicago for the New G concert it was told to me by a reliable source when we opened our mouths and started singing that there were 2 record lable execs and producers in the audience that night - Both of them wanted to sign us right then and there - I just had to throw that out that whatever is said on here really dosen't matter LOL!!!! ok DONE! CHOW!!

I agree with lordvadert49, IMO Worship and Praise harmony is more blended when they sing especially on songs like Hide me, we'll overcome, Great is our God, the blood...but like thehighlyfe said to each his own, both choirs are at the top of the choir list!!
Lemme clear this one... I dunno if you have listened but NEW G has been consistent threw all 7 albums! James Hall & WAP aint even start sounding good on their cd's until their fourth album...if u dont believe just listen the that first and second album. But New G on the other hand cam out screamn with vibrato and color before it was popular and startn with their very first album!!! Not to mention just take a look at the billboards... James and WAP didnt even make it! so Now...

Why dont you pull out all your WAP cds and NEW G cds... listen to WAPs first and Listen to New G's first and do this for each cd each artist has in comparison and listen to the vocal quality and even production quality! I think New G is probably the best choir in America right now. I havent ALWAYS thought so but now it is evident unless there is a choir around that I din't know about. I do remember though when James Hall used to travel with 2 sopranos a few tenors and a few altos and CRUSH! I havent seen or heard them in a minute but if I had to judge ONLY from the youtube clips i would have to agree that new G is doing the better singing right now.

listen, james hall and wap can sing too. but their voice quality could be worked at. new g has developed a sound so professional it would be literally impossible to find a choir to match that. new g aint new to the game they're tru to the game, been in it for over 30 years so how can u put jh and wap in the same category? to each his own, may God bless and keep you

I agree with lordvadert49, IMO Worship and Praise harmony is more blended when they sing especially on songs like Hide me, we'll overcome, Great is our God, the blood...but like thehighlyfe said to each his own, both choirs are at the top of the choir list!!

Lemme clear this one... I dunno if you have listened but NEW G has been consistent threw all 7 albums! James Hall & WAP aint even start sounding good on their cd's until their fourth album...if u dont believe just listen the that first and second album. But New G on the other hand cam out screamn with vibrato and color before it was popular and startn with their very first album!!! Not to mention just take a look at the billboards... James and WAP didnt even make it! so Now...

Why dont you pull out all your WAP cds and NEW G cds... listen to WAPs first and Listen to New G's first and do this for each cd each artist has in comparison and listen to the vocal quality and even production quality! Baby... NEw G was screaming before James and WAP were ever able to discover their own idenity! Even now they are too busy bn dressed up and shady while New G is killn the charts and shutn down shows! U listen for yaself...

and again that is YOUR opinion based on YOUR preference, others may agree others may not like me, but im not about to debate over a personal preference...I thought this was about singing not clothes and personality, cause if that were the case we could be asking why Ricky dresses in pink and drops it like it's hot, now that's shady...but dressing and charts have NOTHING to do with singing, and last time I checked neither of them are platinum or even gold selling artist!!

you are so right. at first i was going to reply to snoopyco07 because any one who thinks rick and new g arent platinum recording artists, needs to really be examined medically because either they have a learning deficiency or has lost their hearing capacity. but when i saw your comment the words i wanted to say were taken right out of my mouth. new g and wap dont even compare, rick and new g are in a class all by themselves; professionalism,vocal and blending quality r out of this world...

My sentiments exactly! Even if we took to live performances... New G delivers everytime...WAP is quite boring to watch actually. But I dont expect ole boy to see quality when obviously he cant even hear quality! LOL And dont get me wrong I love WAP take nuthin from them... but they aint no NEW G!!!!

im wondering what new songs and vocal twists New G will be using on their 8th album, i sometimes wonder;how can they get any better? but with every album they sound more professional than ever and it really amazes me; truth be told: Ricky Dillard and The New Generation Chorale cannot release an album that im not nearly tearing my automobile to get to the store and purchase, i bought two copies of the last one along with a third deluxe cd/dvd $110.00 easily and gratefully and cheerfully spent.w/b

I agree...itsa great feeln when you purchase a cd and u actually enjoy it...rather than buying one and totally being disappointed.I can truly say New G always puts out church appropriate music, that is exciting packed with energy and executed at its best! I've never known them to put out songs that u almost need the musical score or some kind of manual to figure out what they are singing...LOL (cough cough) Have u checked out his protege' Patrick Riddick? Hes gonna be a force as well!!!

I think New G is probably the best choir in America right now. I havent ALWAYS thought so but now it is evident unless there is a choir around that I din't know about. I do remember though when James Hall used to travel with 2 sopranos a few tenors and a few altos and CRUSH! I havent seen or heard them in a minute but if I had to judge ONLY from the youtube clips i would have to agree that new G is doing the better singing right now.

Im sorry but we only mentioned Patrick's name because everyone knows that He is Ricky's protege'. He was not mentioned as if him and his choir are perfect...lasttime I checked they are still developing...so for u to bash them and this clip isnt about them is kinda green on your part. It's Okay!! Ladies and Gentlemen as a member of New G and a personal friend of Professor James Hall, I'm sure both men and their choirs appreciate the thought...but I can assure you that nither are concerned with competing against each other...They have the highest musical respect for each other I ASSURE YOU! We make things that are not important to the actual artist important amongst ourselves... Yall we gotta stop falln out over trivial stuff! When we act this way we down play gospel badly.

And as far as Patrick Riddicks group-Its just my honest opinion that they have ALOT of work to do. I've looked at a few clips of them up here and I really like their music but Vocally they are very weak... They sing dark and LOUD but thats it! No diversity, no dynamic, HORRIBLE DICTION and NO LEADERS! They represent that ministry very negatively over the internet...

One of their members ARMYTHUG cursed me out because I PUT A NEGATIVE COMMENT ON A VERY BAD VIDEO of theirs.
