@wileypayote just listen to him and the way he plays. deep purple, dixie dregs, steve morse band. he is amazing, has a unique style and so many influences, nobody sounds like him. paul gilbert is a really funny guy and a great, great player, but compared to steve...
Get Steve on the next G3 tour ( if there is one) with Satriani and Vai. Steve has always been and always will be one of the best guitar players walking on earth!
And he is one of the most humble down to earth guys you will ever meet a true gentleman.
looks kinda fit for being born in 1954, happy birthday on july 28!!!
he won Guitar Players annual Best Overall guitaris five times in a row in the early eighties and this little clip is just a very little tip of the iceberg, trust me.
BTW isn't Paris Hilton releasing any more amazing albums ... ?
Gonna have to agree with you there. AND he has favorite videos about Spiritual healing and Shen stuff, then comes on here spouting negativity? Hypocrites rock!
@clapdrix72 Well, thats like saying buddy guy is a dime a dozen too. Steve was one of the shred pioneers and can outplay clapton or hendrix anyday of the week. In fact, using your opinion clapton and hendrix are also a dime a dozen. Show some respect.
i met him at this show and i said how much i enjoyd the y2d model and he said "hey check this out" and pulled me aside and showed me the new hard tail bridge they put on it that year. we talked for a few minutes and he was really nice and was eager to explain about his guitar. It was really cool. He is such a nice guy and what a great player!
steve's playing here is nothing compared to his work and live shows, this is namm, tons of noise, gets to be very unpleasant(What do you expect from a convention center?!!?. so "konshess" why don't you keep mouth closed as tight as it can go because the only one looking like an asshole is you compared to a guitar legend......
Well put by just another 3 chord wonder. The 2 kid's in your vid have an awful long way to go before they get to beginer's level. Keep practicing because you sound just like a billion other wannabe's.
Remember, Fluency comes from practice, not HYPE! I bet you have a pic of barry obama & lady gaga on your wall:0'), there's all show & no go, & then there are those who have true skill, that's a fact you will never understand.
If I were you, I give my guitar to someone who could play it.
totally agree with jimistreets..... morse is the reason that purple is still on tour,,,, ritchie blackmore was awesome... you cant critisize EITHER because if they are in a band like that they are obviously good
u no yes he DOES play fast..but he perfects the playing fast..both blackmore and morse are good..but to me i think morse may be a little more technical..but there both outstanding guitars..and dont judge that guitar by how it looks ...ive played it its awesome!!!!!!
I love both old AND new DP. Blackmore is amazing, one of my all-timers. But Morse to me is the reason why they are still out there smokin' as great as ever. His contribution to the songwriting has kept them from becoming another tired classic rock band that lives in the past and should have retired long ago. Not to mention that he is simply a virtuoso almost without peer. What cracks me up are the guitar players on YouTube that criticize the greats when they can't even come close themselves...
"guiterry" be a little more polite im a musician that uses steve's guitars. the best sounding guitar i have ever played and looks feels amazing always, and it attracts the ladies too haha

really ugly guitar... and also I think he is playing very booooring riffs... anyway... I got my ENGL Invader 150 now and a 4x12 ENGL Cab to that... trust me!! Its the mother of all amps! Fuck Mesa boogie...
I have chatted with Steve on a few occasions, and he has got to be the nicest, most humble, guitar MONSTROSITY there has ever been! At NAMM this year, I was talking with Steve and John Petrucci and they were talking about a young guitarist that puts them both to shame! I couldn't believe my ears! It reminded me of something I have always believed about the true greats: They are never completely happy with themselves and sort of worry about "losing their jobs" if you know what I mean...
joe satriani replaced ritchie blackmore, & steve morse replaced joe satriani, if you are actually a DP fan you would know that...... and to be honest your "OPINION" not fact isn't helpful at all.
Gary Moore is another great player who can play fast but stilll be musical too. Very clean playing, check out some of his rock stuff and earlier jazz rock with collosium 11! The man's a genius.
Absolute legend! I don't like his country stuff too much but his deep purple performances, his fusion with the Dixie dregs and his classical stuff is all so amazing!!
Morse...wow...the only guy who can make 32s(notes per bar, that is) sound like music! Long career full of major bands (Kansas, Deep Purple) and still humble and really enjoying playing guitar and finding new sounds!
We grew up on the Dixie Dregs ! Morse has got to be our all time favorite, with Nicky Moroch a solid 2nd place. ( Talk about underrated, Nick's practically undiscovered ! ). And, dang, Steve's still awfully purty !
Morse is one of the few guys who plays fast and clean with a clean tone. A legendary composer and player. By the way, if you want to hear one of the greats, check Danny Gattons 88 Elmira St. A master of styles and a great example of how to burn with taste . True virtuoso.
Morse, once banned from Guitarist of the Year contests by many guitar mags because of too many wins, is one of the most diverse (Govan is versatille, but perhaps Steve is the most versatille ever) and technical guitarists ever. Further, he is supremely dedicated to the guitar and to musical excellence. He is one of guitardom's most venerable pioneers, being even better, if not radically less famed, than Vai and Satch. Newer artists are stars; guys like Steve are skies.
