  • @jonbhorn hey jon, nice playing, but you are a DOUCHE! though i probably didnt need to tell you that. you've been getting that for 20 years right?

  • Comment removed

  • bro that was pretty impressive

  • :48, that was nice

  • Hey man, nice video. Your tone was good, vibrato and phrasing tasteful, and high notes controlled and connected. Well done!

  • Sounds good brother!

  • wow. that was soooooo killin. wow

  • I like trumpets:playing them, listening to them, and watching someone play one but from the looks of your replys to people's comments I am going to take a wild guess that you are a bit of an asshole. Maybe if you are less of a dick you will play better and make better videos instead of this attempt to watch yourself.

  • what kind of horn are you playing on?

  • Hey man you did well. Don't listen to anyone else there just be stupid. I play the trumpet and i cant play like that. then again i started about 5 years ago. GOOD JOB!!!

  • buena tio vale verla punto a favor!!!

  • you're a dick.

  • omg!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!

  • What a bunch of posers Youtube comments attract, if you can deliver the goods like this, you can breathe through your eyelids (but you knew that already!), your sound is something of a lost art.

If that's your vocal on Moondance, nice job, you're a double threat, keep doing what you're doing!

  • Great ear and chops. Keep at it; a bit more polish and you could become one of the best sounding players out there.

  • nice tone, played with feeling. well done

  • *shakes your hand*

    Wow..

  • Al Hirt did a version of this song on his album my parents got in the mid 60s.The original came from Bunny Berigan with words.

  • great tone quality just work on the breaths

  • Awesome job

  • U rock John!!

  • that was awesome dude make some more video plz

  • hahah nice u get so red.

  • You sound great. You nailed it, bro. This has been one of my favorite songs since I started playing trumpet decades ago. Your half-valves, slides, shakes, attack, tone, phrasing are all sounding terrific. If you find a vocalist, guy or girl, to also do the singing break as in Bunny Berrigan's original arrangement, that would just rock.

Really great job with a really great song.

    Thanx for posting.

  • cool! wow those are some pretty high notes i play the trumpet too

  • haha I get a kick out of the fact that people think that any trumpet with a brushed finish is a monette.

  • LMAO!!!!!!

  • @gestrumpet do you know what kind of trumpet it is? I think its a Taylor but I'm not sure

  • @gestrumpet And a silver mouthpiece...

  • Wow, I love you!

  • Is that a Monette?

  • It´s a Taylor 46lite. greetings

  • Nice, I enjoy listening to you play.

  • dude, that was sick. Moar.

  • That was grand mang great vid.. Jazz is effin cool :0

  • whats that last note?

  • WOW! That was amazing..congratulations! I play sax , but I would love to play trumpet, I hope to play trumpet like you someday.....by the way...you're gorgeous

  • that kid is good!

  • correct me if im wrong but is that piece called nicole? and i wouldnt bother listening to the others and the whole shoulder breathing whatever works, works. i agree with asmcriminaL as long as it sounds good (which it absolutely did) nothin else matteres

  • yall are all dicks for being such critics.....this guy is awesome.....rock on johnbhorn

  • I'd like to add, work on the breathing, you lift your shoulders when you breathe, try to breathe from the base of your lungs.

  • WOW!!Thanks! I never heard that before. I wish somone would have told me that 20 years ago when I started playing!!! That is sarcastic by the way. I was laying it on pretty thick.

  • @jonbhorn not a cool response to that attempted constructive criticism, even if you have heard it before.

  • @jonbhorn You can always improve, no matter how long you've been playing or how good you think you are.

  • You're talking about diaphramic breathing. The actual muscles that push the air are in the chest area. and to have the maximally contract, your chest needs to be up.

  • Yes i know but that does not mean the sholders should move, it causes the muscles in the neck to tighten and it constrics the airflow.

  • I know what you're saying. Some players as sandoval and maynard, use this thing with "raising the shoulders" and "SIT" on their air to increase pressure. But honestly, it really doesn't matter. What matters is what comes out on the other side of the bell, if it sounds good... nothing else matters.

  • THat a monette?

  • lawler

  • fail..... taylor

  • Good job man...

  • excellent. that was really good.

  • amazing!

  • wonderful articulation.... i dont have to say anything about the range..lol

the only thing i would say to improve on is the release of some of your lower-register notes... the tone got a little lazier the lower you went.... just keep pushing that air...

    other than that, AMAZING...

    keep it up...

  • AWESOME.

  • This is awsome playing. I just hope I can be as good as you one day.

  • Hey, nicely done! :-)

    Two Thumbs Up!

  • That was awesome! :D Keep up the good work!

  • Very nice playing Johnb, you have a beautiful tone and vibratto and sparkle in the upper register!!

  • love the vibrato thing you do :)

  • How do you scream on a Trumpet?

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    like that

  • very nice

  • 0.48-0.49 the slide down back to the lower range was sweet! it sounded really good! the whole thing

  • you're inspiring(:

i'm a senior in high school, i've been playing trumpet for.. 7 years and i love listening to you play!

  • sick dude. the highest note i can play is an octave above a high g :\

  • by the way, may I ask what kind of trumpet you play? :)

  • what kind of trumpet is that iss awesome

  • it was good, but why didn't u cut the video? it was so childish switching on/off the cam.

  • Probably because I wanted to spend the time playing trumpet rather than caring about what you would think about the editing of my video!

  • right on

  • nice tone

  • Pretty nice tone man

  • wow... i think ur a bit sharp there, i've played this myself and i know that the songs pretty different

  • your very el-SHAarPPPPaaaaPPPaaaa-aaa!!!!!!!!

it's not a hate comment your just sharp...have nice day...good job

  • i wn to play the trumpet but i play the f.horn. dang.

  • how do you hit such high notes?even though im only 13 and have been playing for 3 years the highest thing i can hit is an high f(the one on the top line)any advice

  • get a clarinet

  • lol weak, jk, although i play clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax and guitar so what do i know about brass:)

  • hey man im a trumpet player too so if you want to really increase your range start doing slurring excersizes. just hold a low D and then slur up and down getting higher every time and that will build up your muscles a lot. good luck

  • So what's the highest note you've ever hit?

  • double d

  • 13 age and double g

  • double c

  • guys...this was directed to the guy that made the video...

  • Next time someone says you have too much vibrato on that tune, as them if they ever heard Bix play it. If they don't know what you're talking about then they need a little more trumpet schooling. That was absolutely perfect!!!!

  • Sorry about not making a good enough point...Shure hitting an F sharp is good...but having power behind it is another story...

  • That's not screaming...nice sound though.

  • I never said screamin, I said a "little" scremin, and I think a high f# qualifies.

  • amazing man, keep it up. if you haven't already listen to Maynard Ferguson's version of it, its amazing

  • Is this song called "I cant get started" ? ? ?

  • Yes it is. It's an amazing song. Haha.

  • I'm loving the expression. Great control

  • Nice job!!!

  • Nice vibrato practice keeping it steady and the same level of air pressure as the other notes such as the high ones

  • wow...i love it! im 15 right now and with my braces (which i basically started playing my trumpet with them for about 6 years) i can just barely hit a high B flat. i just love ur music!

  • I feel you, i have braces too but ive learned to hit a D (major, not concert)...just keep working on it. I will too =]

  • thanks! i'll keep trying!

  • Major is not in opposition to concert...

  • dat was cold big bro

  • i like it. I also play this in our bigband. And i had the same idea ;)

  • great sound, nice playing. appropriate use of vibrato too. thanks for posting this.

  • Really nice. what a talent.

  • Respekt for this comment and if i find a lolly pop you will get it.

  • hahahha. Thanks for comment, it brought back lots of memories. I remember that when I was that age I thought the High Eb on the Haydn, was the highest note ever. hahaaaha

  • Amazing tone in the upper register. Made it look easy. One of the best youtube videos I've seen tone wise yet. Most are tasteless, toneless screams from high schoolers. Loved it.

  • cool man, thanks. Don't blame them. If youtube was aroun when I was in high school I would have put way too many clips of bad high notes up! Thanks man. Glad you enjoyed.

  • woohoo! nice

  • Marry me!

    jk

  • Great sound... Really nice job

  • nice job man ! nice solo nice played with nearly no pressure (that´s what it sounded like)

  • nice job man

  • rock on!

  • love the screaming

  • From one trumpet player to another....my hat's off to you. "I Can't Get Started" has been a favorite of mine for years. Pity more people don't know of it.

  • Oh my fucking god nice. I love you now...haha anyway away from the extremely homosexual comment. You gotta do some more nice tone in upper registers dude!. Keep playing man! - Jin

  • It really sounded like someone singing at the end, with that vibrato. Nice job!

  • Nice vibrato!

    It sounds like someones singing!

    amazing

  • very nice, beautiful. Lol you wouldnt happen to have a scanner to email that piece to me? That would be amazing if you did. Id love to be able to play that

  • Just figure it out. You have ears for a reason.

  • well, yes, but i dont have time to sit at my computer and play with it, and i usually would be playing at school where youtube is blocked

  • Well, neither do I.

I guess if it sticks in your head after you hear it, that might help... BUT, Thanksgiving break is coming up. What better thing to do than pass the time earing pieces on YouTube? XD XD

  • lolz i cannot deny your logic.

  • Dude... Transcribe... Lazy

  • That's not exactly "screamin". It's barely even over the register.

  • Nice!

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • good work buddy !

  • wow overall im impressed also im in love with your horn lol how much did it cost?

  • is that a monette horn?

  • She is a Taylor Chicago 46 lite, and her name is Bertha. I have had her for 4 years now, and she is the best horn I have ever played.

  • you sound great man, good sound, MUSICAL....

    Keep posting

  • Nice range and tone. Very skilled vibrato as well.
