@bangerra Once you have ENOUGH practice, it's not that hard. Well, in my opinion, it is never easy with the exception of Stage 1. But, it is hard. I started playing it when I was 7 and got Screamin' Eagle, Lizard Nightmare, Crazy Canuck, and all those great cars when I was 14. Lol
@bangerra LOL. I beat him with Extreme Green. What you have to do, is to start as normal, race as normal, and when he bypasses you at "light-speed". He'll then stop for a while. Then, you must hurry up and leave him REALLY behind, because when he resumes, he'll go normal, but he's much faster than you. So, if you leave him behind enough, you'll finish the race before he bypasses you again.

I suggest just before the rise on Stage 1 Second Race (Highest Class) you begin an anti clockwise drift using the screaming eagle. As you land try and aim for a close to the far wall as possible (i.e The mountain Face). Once near the 90 Degree corner the car will drift around the corner, immediately after clearning it (continue drifting) begin drifting right to make it around the next 90 Degree corner. Do it well and you will win first time. I guarrentee it.
this game was my favorite game ever when i was like 6 hahaha

you have to hit the helicopter either in stage 1 first race time trial
or in second stage first race time trial mode. then finish the time trial thing. it unlocks the red shirt rage.
