I'M NOT A FAMOUS OR PUBLIC PERSON. I HAVE NO RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM I'VE CALLED THEIR LEGAL STAFF AND THEY HAVE CONSISTENTLY IGNORED AND CIRCUMVENTED AFTER INFORMING ME OF AN "Internal investigation"
So I am too 'dumb' am I? What an extraordinary statement to feel compelled to make. For a start you clever young chap, you have spelled 'Kryten' wrongly, and the mere use of the term 'dumb' in such a punchy short sentence gives me the distinct impression you have no idea where or what Brasenose actually is. I would love to be wrong and discover you are an undergraduate in the aforementioned august institution, but somehow I doubt it.
An amusing video, but somewhat missing the points. Either we are nearing peak oil or we aren't. One day we definitely will, which is cause for concern. If we aren't, then the oil companies are operating a highly illegal cartel.
If we are then we'd better come up with some alternatives to oil pretty soon. Lets not forget that our _plastic_ driven economy is dependant on it. However, at least renewables will become comparably better value for money.
Oh, and OPEC countries report their reserves, but the amount they are allowed to pump is based on their reserves. They have an incentive to lie if they want to pump more oil.
if it is a big lie that we are running out of oil the oil companies will be regreting that decision to lie because of bio fules and if we are running out of oil it doesn't matter because of bio fules so there is no need to worrie
Why is it Prof., that your opinions on subjects such as peak oil are expressed so much more eloquently than the 'experts'? Thus, your comments actually sink into our grey-matter and get us thinking. I suppose though, peak oil, right about now would probably be a good thing....at least then it'd kill off game shows, since none of the "incontestants" could make it to the studio! Keep it up Prof. :-)
LOL. That character reminds me of the man who interviewed me for entrance to Cambridge Uni. A girl came out of his office crying and he shouted "Next!".
What's interesting is that as the price of oil rises, it becomes economical to start exploiting less accessible oil which will also shift the balance of power. Venezuela will benefit from this.
I know it's being pedantic, but it's not just that oil reserves are running out, it's a matter of extraction. Oil may never run out completely, but what remains is increasingly hard to extract and therefore more costly to do so.
But hey, with melting icecaps and no fuel for shipping, maybe we'll see a new generation of clipper ships carrying our mangos to the (beachfront) Tescos?
i'd just like to say to Bobby, Thank you. i think its so good that a big celeb like robert takes time from his busy day to make videos on youtube for us all to enjoy, and for free no less. thanks again Rob. BTW, love the new characters we're starting to see, i'd love to see more of them
I'm sure I've seen the prof on his bike around Cambridge to, but yes, I think we should all be very worried, it's not looking good, time to start planting spuds and mending the brakes on my bike.
Hopefully the oil pressures will push a technological surge in renewable energy, nothing like disaster to really make reasearch into a previously expensive area, hydrogen cells warp drive ;) or whatever, financially viable. I hope!!!
has news articles relating to the economic crisis in America and here. Find out the true reasons behind it all.
Infact infowars D0TC0M in general is an excellent site, if you're a truth seeker, or care about your civil liberties etc. It covers news stories that the mainstream media either ignore or gloss over.
Exactly right. The oil companies don't tell anyone when they've discovered more oil, so for all we know there could be decades worth left (either still underground or stored in barrels somewhere).
The huge increase in oil prices recently is deliberate (artificial scarcity), as part of bigger plans by the global elite to wipe out the middle class.
Very interesting. I walk all the time (though to compensate I never go anywhere).
Very interesting indeed. Either way, the consumer is going to be in trouble. Personally I half hope its that there is plenty of oil, because if the prices are going up purely because of greed, my sock prices won't be affected and it'll only matter to drivers.
Regardless, time for some disaster planning for if the world goes to buggery me thinks...
Ah but your socks WILL go up, what the honorable Prof V. Alice was pointing out was that by the cost of oil rocketing, all transportation will cost more and therefore this gets passed onto the product to recompense.
Hmm, I can see an upside to grass and potatoes but both theories are compelling, given that two of the biggest tools for change are fear, real or imagined or created, and ignorance, well-entrenched in the unwashed masses of any modern society. Interesting that history shows us that eventually all towers fall, yet the folly of greed and power always finds new victims who don't seem to care, preferring short-term gain. I like your new character! Excellent commentary, entertaining presentation :)
Great way to present these two sides. Laughter aside it's all rather worrying especially now I'm a mum and would like a lovely future for my kids. Cheers, Lesley
another conspiracy theory is that the US is holding on to its' oil whilst using foreign oil so that it will continue to be the superpower when worldwide oil does peak. Hence why they have not been drilling in Alaska (environmental concerns is a very recent excuse). The truth is nobody knows and that the peasants will be the ones who shoulder most of the hardship, regardless of what's really going on. bloody commoners.

Better buy furs. If the oil is running out, eventually flora will consume the CO2 and lead us into global cooling.
Or maybe the USA wants the rest of the world to use up their oil, then they can be the new OPEC and the money will flow the other way.
