  • Talking about the one and only--Ms. Loudon. Thanks for posting this.

  • I like when she says, "I;m too good for this room."

  • Ahaha, love how they just throw "War and Peace!" into there.

  • "It makes me CRAZY!" Sooooo funny!

  • does anyone know if this version is to be found on CD.

    thanks

  • Wow, like many other posters here, I also remember this first being performed. She stole the show as far as I'm concerned. I can't remember another thing from that broadcast, but her hilarious performance has been in the back of my mind ever since, so it's great to see it again and remember just how it went. THANK you for posting!

  • I saw this on the Tony's back in the day when they showed them on British TV - never forgot it. This is why YouTube exists. God bless you Dorothy and thanks for touching my life.

  • OMG, I have NEVER forgotten this performance, and I'm so happy to find this video!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!

  • This lifts the mood... '83 (?) Tony's... Gershwin Medley... What a pro!

  • dorothy loudon = perfect mix of amazing voice, amazing acting, and great comedic timing.

  • thank you SOOO much for uploading this as I still remember the very night she came on stage ands stole the whole Tony Awards Show ... what an amazing talent.

  • god dorothy loudon has captured my heart. i am her slave :"D

  • who wrote the song?

  • Otto Harbach and Oscar Hammerstein wrote the words and George Gershwin and Herbert Stothart wrote the music. Not sure why it took four of them to write it...

  • @mitchellivers the more the merrier! Sometimes I think working together on a project is underrated!

  • I will always love her. No person makes me laugh more than Dorothy Loudon.

  • I love vodka and Dorothy.

  • She is one of the funniest women ever to grace Broadway. She never fails to make me laugh (this performance in particular). Plus she has one hell of a voice.

  • Oh. My. Goodness. I didn't think I could love her more, but, BAM! There it is. More love. WHAT a treasure she was and her memory will be.

Think I'll have a drink. Maybe vodka.

  • "wait in the car" haha i wasn't around during her career but she really has inspired me to do it! she's brilliant and in my opinion the best Mrs Lovett for Sweeney Todd amazing. there use to be video's of her on youtube in Sweeney todd but there not here anymore :( post them back!

  • done and done

  • She was ON FIRE!!!

BTW, who's the lady coming down the stairs at the end of this clip/beginning of next number?

  • Leslie Uggams looks like.

  • This is funny!! Glad it's on YT.

  • This is a marvelous performance that should be available to the world in pristine condition.

  • truly brilliant performer, is this from a musical?

  • I only wish I could have seen her live! She is fantastic!

  • I love when she tells her boa to wait in the car.

  • Good lord!!!! I've been dreaming of and replaying this moment for all these years!! Thank you for posting it. She could inspire dead people to go onstage and slay 'em in the aisles! What a great talent and wonderful spirit.

  • gotta love her

  • Amazing, thank you.

  • What was this, early 80's? I have remembered this number vividly for all these years. Such a treat to finally see it again. Thanks so much for sharing! She was such an amazing talent and we are poorer without her.

  • It was from the 1983 Tony Awards. There were so few musicals that year that they schedule a Gershwin tribute. This obscure Gershwin song was part of the tribute.

  • Actually, the name of the Uris theater was being changed to the Gershwin theater, hence the salute to the Gershwins. . .

  • A true talent that only the stage could do justice to. She was one of a kind. Thank you for posting.

  • Vodka!

She's a whole bottle for starters!

    Love to find lovely Dorothy!

I saw her first in the Sondheim Celebration and fell totally with her talent! Crazy!!!!

  • Brilliant.........God, what talent, she was utterly divine.

  • Brilliant!~One of Broadway's all-time great comedic singing actors. A hilarious performance bursting with talent and charisma.

  • Tears in my eyes. Tears... Brilliant performance. From one alcoholic to another... ;-)

  • This is from Gershwins "Song of the Flame" I can not find it for sale anywhere.. If anyone has a cast recording of this number please let me know.

  • That was talent, you don't see timing or humor and all with such ease, anymore!

  • God bless you for posting this! I have been longing to see this performance for years.

  • brilliant!
