Wow, like many other posters here, I also remember this first being performed. She stole the show as far as I'm concerned. I can't remember another thing from that broadcast, but her hilarious performance has been in the back of my mind ever since, so it's great to see it again and remember just how it went. THANK you for posting!
I saw this on the Tony's back in the day when they showed them on British TV - never forgot it. This is why YouTube exists. God bless you Dorothy and thanks for touching my life.
thank you SOOO much for uploading this as I still remember the very night she came on stage ands stole the whole Tony Awards Show ... what an amazing talent.
Otto Harbach and Oscar Hammerstein wrote the words and George Gershwin and Herbert Stothart wrote the music. Not sure why it took four of them to write it...
She is one of the funniest women ever to grace Broadway. She never fails to make me laugh (this performance in particular). Plus she has one hell of a voice.
"wait in the car" haha i wasn't around during her career but she really has inspired me to do it! she's brilliant and in my opinion the best Mrs Lovett for Sweeney Todd amazing. there use to be video's of her on youtube in Sweeney todd but there not here anymore :( post them back!
Good lord!!!! I've been dreaming of and replaying this moment for all these years!! Thank you for posting it. She could inspire dead people to go onstage and slay 'em in the aisles! What a great talent and wonderful spirit.
What was this, early 80's? I have remembered this number vividly for all these years. Such a treat to finally see it again. Thanks so much for sharing! She was such an amazing talent and we are poorer without her.
It was from the 1983 Tony Awards. There were so few musicals that year that they schedule a Gershwin tribute. This obscure Gershwin song was part of the tribute.
Talking about the one and only--Ms. Loudon. Thanks for posting this.

Actually, the name of the Uris theater was being changed to the Gershwin theater, hence the salute to the Gershwins. . .
