Now your only option is to have your phone unlocked via a box (Smart Clip, Mss2 etc)

this service can be provided at no charge by the phone company that the phone is locked to.

For example if the phone is locked w/ an at&t sim card all you have to do is call at&t customer service.They should unlock it for free unless the phone is stolen or what not.

Well, there is not any free code anywhere. However if your phone is older than 2 years you can try to get your code from your Operator, but some Operators even ask money even though phone is older than 2 years. For example One Austria asks for 40 euro.
