Hes Most Likely From New Zeland Australia or Canada. Because the Have no problem interchangin gear and more often than not the australlians switch out there horrible blotch for 2 colour.... but i hate to burst your bubble but we use Michs as well. :P hence the dpm cover which you dont just carry in your back pocket in case a canadian wants to look pretty xD
its the canadian army... they were working with the british army and done combat patrols with them my dad was out there with them he said they would try out eachothers gear and would all wear british camo just to be reconized as 1 army to the locals
i can help u out a bit there mate im a sergent in 4 medical regiment. in squady language DOC or CMT. when i was first deployed in 2003 there was and still is a lak of british 5.56 SA80 so we used the US M4 until our 5.56's arrived but i was there for 4 years and i never had a 5.56 SA80
Its the canadian version of the M4 Carbine (i'm not in the service, i just have a fascination with weapons. Just in case people jump me and ask.) They are sometimes offered to left-handed soldiers as the SA-80 is inconvenient for left-handers, but more likely (since he's clearly right handed) he's either in the Paras or the Royal Marines. Both of these two have platoons that are offered these weapons as standard issue. I doubt they're UK Special Forces.
Can british soldiers buy there own kit? and wear american gear? such as helmets, armour, packs etc? anyone that could get back to me with this would be a great help.
@liverpooluk1 - yes they can, there are a few websites which specialse in selling gear to soldiers fit for service.
There was actually something on the news a while back about British soldiers buying thier own webbing because the suff the amry gave them wasn't up to scratch.
@liverpooluk1 It varies from unit to unit, some commanding officers will allow a certain amount of personal kit to be carried or worn, others will not, it's all according to how lax your co is.
@liverpooluk1-some people buy their own boots normally Lowas but your issued boots had to be worn for parades and sometimes for inspections dependent on who was inspecting,some also buy hooded smocks,para helmets,extra parts for webbing or tactical style rigs if a driver,gunner or commander in AFV,then theres alot of excercise kit that people would buy such as sleeping bags,gas cooker,waterproof bags,pens and pads,ponchos and decent pegs,arch markers,and loads more
@fusilier45 thanks. one last thing, i know the british have changed their 'helmets' now. but are the british allowed to wear the american helmet? i've seen on one video on youtube one soldier that is british doing so. i know both helmets are not that much different now, but would still like to know. sorry for all the questions. Peace.
He could be a British soldier attached to an American Army unit. I know when I was in the Army, we had British officers as part of some kind of "exchange program". They would wear our patches, and would even deploy with us. If I had to guess, he is probably an attached officer, and he was just using similar equipment to the unit to which he was attached.
he's got a british issue patrol pack. he might have bought his own helmet, as he possibly found that the issue one is inadequate. not sure about the weapon though.
@dassnarmeanian most british n american special forces photo i see from afghanistan n iraq show special forces wearing long beards,body armor n different kind of clothing,they dont actually wear combat uniform as this fellers,actually,i think he is spec.forces that is attach to that unit,so he might wear gear to blend in as a member of that unit or something eh.
It's not a HK416, note the front iron sight of it is a AR15 type. The gun is more then likely a C8CQB since from what I read the British Army don't own M4 rifles (Some old M16s but not M4s) The soldier could be from the Royal Military Police protection teams that protect the top brass high important people when they are out visiting places etc. Or he could be a Pathfinder Platoon member.
it is 101'st airborne light division,and the rifle used is being used due to the 101st airborne being an elite group of soldiers,this soldier got the oppertunity to use the rifle. If you are interested in the british army watch my videos and please subscribe.
that's not 101'st the tactical flash is a shield that looks like a light infantry flash to me along with a union jack on the pocket flap on his shoulder, and the soldier on the left looks British so he could be a lucky git who convinced his CO or SNCO to let him use some US kit, or even a last minuet cock up in a US soldiers washing on base and he had to patrol out in a rush so he went in what he had ... who knows! all i know for definite is that's not 101'st

Canadiens?

@droid98756
Maybe it's a joint operation in which the British are working with the US Army. Co-op forces maybe? Different nation altogether?

one thing i do know is that some of the Royal Marines are using the HK416 as a trial at the moment :)

i conquer with wex99
by the looks of it,he is a british soldier, RMP protection unit (maybe) as they i beleive can get weapons for there role (protection,CP ect).
The two badges on his left arme are:
1) top is a union jack in desert or olive color!
2) the bottom one is of a head of a tiger or leopard head,so thats sound like a battle group could be brigade flash!
So yes i believe he may be RMP or what we used to call them "MONKEYS"
I doubt very much he is SF,hope that helps

@dassnarmeanian Its Possible
But I doubt that we would get to see pictures of SAS, SBS or SRR.
I can see where your coming from though, as they get a real choice of what gear to use
