Always thought that Franciosa was as talented as they come, and should have been a great star. Check out his performance in "Story On Page One". A winner!
Not yet released on DVD. :- ( I don't know if ti's worth waiting, but it's good memories of my childhood. In France, Tony's voice was dubbed by a great actor with a fantastic voice : Daniel Gelin.
The opening is from the episode "Think murder" aired on december 6 th in 1975 on ABC.
Don't think I ever saw this...probably I was working nights at the time..of course he also starred in "the name of the game". I thought he was great in that show.
I remember this show, I always like Tony's tv shows and films, he had something that is lacking in stars today, his own kind of charm that showed through on the screen, and he did two films with Ann Margeret, one with Raquel Welch and other beautiful women, now that's a career.
Franciosa started on broadway with "Hatful of Rain" the Michael Gazzo play. He was an exciting actor. He could have done more to "wow" the world. Oh, well.
Typical mean trick from [mc1pc2nk3], he attacks anonymus people without any big issue and then run, hide himself, block himself. We should take pity on this miserable kid. or just ignore him.
..and hey he had one of those cool phones you could use in your car... back before everybody had them and starting gumming up traffic on the daily commute...
He sure did.. we have RTN in our market and they run episodes every weekday afternoon... car phones were a big thing with TV's private detectives .. I recall that Joe Mannix and Dan Tanna (Vegas) also were on the cutting edge..
You're a strange one. You think a stock 73 Corvette was the "coolest car"? And you never heard of Tony Franciosa? Bixby was cool but you're either extremely narrow minded or have very little knowledge of classic tv and the many character actors that are familiar faces to the rest of us.
Hell, Tony Franciosa had a long career in movies and TV. This was just after he did SEARCH and Name of the Game. Any kid watching TV back them would know this.
in the 60's, i was 6 yrs old when i saw my 1st dean martin/matt helm film. i wanted 2 be matt helm after that. in the 70s when tony f. got this series, i thot holllywood was NUTS!! now i think of tony f. as a gr8 actor and wish he were still around! he and dino did a gr8 film in the 50s called CAREER. the 2 pre-helms acting side-by-side. incidentally, tony f. was the standout in that film about making it theatre. hollywood has a new helm film in the making. be afraid. be very afraid.
The first TV detective to have a car phone was Richard Diamond (David Janssen). And his girl Friday on the other end was Mary Tyler Moore but her face was never shown and her name didn't appear in the credits.
What a theme music ! Thanks you so much !!! There is another intro (wuth the same theme) for later episodes. If you have it, pleeeeeeaaaaaassssseeee.... upload it !! Thanks.
I remember the theme song better than the show itself. It's a catchy bit of music. I had recorded it the old-fashioned way (cassette tape recorder, from the television) and always liked the tune! Thanks for posting this.
Great but very short lived show circa 1975 as I recall! I too thank you for uploading the title and teaser sequence! Great stuff, and I wish I could see this whole series again as well.
I never even heard of him until I saw in one of Roddy McDowells home movies.

thank you for the post.
one of the first tv show I 've ever seen in my life ( I was a young boy back to that time).
In France this stv serie was very popular mainly because of the coolness Steve Mcqueen type of Tony Franciosa.
The character of the show departed from the original novel .
the theme is also terrific.

I remember this show and even remember a couple of episodes as if they aired yesterday, one of which guest-starred Marlyn Mason.
