Movies was amazing and compelling. The ending felt rushed and left alot of questions unanswered to me. Like wut will happen with his brother and the family
America is a urinal. Afghanistan will break the "Good Ole" US of A. Just as it broke the USSR. It is headed toward disaster. The economy is shit. Most Americans are fat slobs that sit around watching American idol. 1/3 of American kids are diabetic and overweight welfare rats. Soldiers are gonna start dying by the hundreds soon. Obama is a fucking child. Bush was a retard. The only people that will benefit are the wealthy elite. Go back to sleep America. Nothing to see here.
@09geauxtigers I truly pity your ignorance. Many countries preach the essence of peace, faith, and well being for the world and humanity, but as a sad fact, and a historically proven one, those things are only reached through ones will to stand up for the trodden upon and at times, fight, not just for personal gain or freedom, but for his fellow man. There are millions of people around the world that look to the US as a beacon of hope, and your petty ignorance and hate isn't changing that.
i know your trying to be a "cool, fresh, and different" reviewer with your retarded one liners and your extremely annoying voice but your review was absolutely garbage.
I thought the acting was great. BUT I didn't really care for the ending. It felt a bit rushed. AND...all the questions Toby asked his wife and brother when he came back required a SIMPLE answer(in my oppinion)...why didn't they just TELL THE TRUTH. lol....less stress for everyone. Those are the only problems I had with it.
I didn't particularly like it. I felt that it was filled with many unnecessary things, such as the daughter's interference with the family.
Also, I felt that Toby Macguire didnt fit the role of a soldier very well.
In addition, the ending was painfully lacking, even compared to the rest of this movie.
On the Plus side however, the beginning of the movie was great, and throughout it sort of kept you on the edge of your seat, even though it was quite predictable.
I'm not sure why you say there was a crappy trailer. The one you showed at the beginning made the movie look like shit, but the theatrical trailer is intense.
i agree with everyone leaving the theater. the trailer was good and that's what piqued my curiosity in the first place .... i mean, you can't give everything away with the trailer (it's a tease after all). i understand what you're saying.... not much of a review though. this film stuck with me for a couple of days and that's what i like.
The deeper meaning was he was a prisoner of war tortured and when he came home to see she had finally gott her life together it drove him insane but the question was, could he live again after what happened being tortured and coming back.
@AyLynnHaus I thought the question was could he live again after what he had done to the other marine. Could you live with yourself after killing a man who trusted you with his life? That's what I took from the movie. I agree with you, it's got a lot deeper meaning than him just going crazy.
I like the kind of war movies that try to portray real warfare. Kinda like Saving Private Ryan or Platoon. I don't like it when it tries crappy themes like Hart's War or Pearl Harbor.
From the trailers it does seem like a Lifetime film, even though the actors in the movie are superb actors. I don't think I'll go watch it, mostly because....it looks like a Lifetime feature film of the night.
I would have to say that "Saving Private Ryan" is my favorite war film. The action was well shot, and story well executed.
I like movies like "letters from iwo jima" and "flags of our fathers" and "pearl harbor" and "saving private ryan". The ones with a lot of heart to them.
This movie had amazingly well acted characters, but had some plot issues; It was one of those movies like The Pursuit of Happiness where nothing ever seems to go the right way.
it's hard for me to call this a war movie since it is more about the affects of war than about re-telling war itself. I enjoyed the movie though...it may have clinched Tobey Maguire's chances at an Oscar nod.
Brothers left me feeling like they skipped everything you wanted to see, and dragged on with everything you didn't want to see. first hour and a half was dragging (the "death", the cheating, he's alive, etc.) the last 20 minutes was good though. i wish the dragging could have been cut down to a half hour and the rest actually show them cheating for real, then have tobey catch them at some times, that would have made this A LOT BETTER. oh well...1.5 Stars if that, sorry
I want to see vivid, meaningful, and honest, dramatic movies about war. I prefer movies such as "Letters From Iwo Jima," "Platoon," or "Saving Private Ryan." War movies need to show both the good and bad and the in-between of wars and what soldiers go through. This movie Brothers reminds me of that garbage movie Pearl Harbor. Cut with the sappy "brother gets with his brother's girl" crap. Make the war, the soldiers the key, not some love triangle.
Don't let the trailer disuade you from seeing this movie. While it is said that it's not as poinant as the orignial, it is still pretty heart wrenching, especially the little girl. She is a wonderful actress. It's not a happy or action packed tale, but like they said above, it helps us understand a solider's perspective and the cost the war has- more than just the soliders that die.
i hate the trailer for this movie so much i refuse to see it.
first you get some great exposition from the little girl informing us that their believed to be dead father and jake guillinhal are brothers. then we have some really peaceful music. then toby maguire comes back. the little girl says something about her mom sleeping with her dads brother . toby maguire looses his shit shoots a gun in the air and back to peaceful music. fuckness
i totally agree about the trailer! it was honestly one of the worst trailers ive ever seen. but brothers is getting a lot of praise, so im thinking about seeing it now
I want to see a WWI, WWII, KOREAN WAR, VIETNAM, Khmer Rouge, RWANDA, GULF WAR, 9/11, AFGHAN WAR, IRAQ WAR...a movie with all those wars put together and history mingles with itself...soldiers in WWII fighting soldiers in IRAQ WARmaybe an alternate ending where all the soldiers have no weapons, only Kung Fu and Titty Twisters...
I enjoy historical depictions of war in film, but I'm not really a fan of the ones about wars that are currently happening. Why? I'm not sure. But it's probably to do with the fact that you can watch a movie guilt-free if the war they're portraying is already in the history books. These modern movies...they're always some director's personal comment on war or whatever.
Brothers seems like a downer. It doesn't look like it would appeal to me.
Well, that goes without saying. Whether the director is Michael Bay on some fifty million dollar set in Hollywood or your grandmother filming your birthday party, the person's looking through the lens is literally imparting their vision; adding their stamp on the picture.
I think you know what I meant. The kind of movies that are more like editorials than entertainment.

Horror movies have to be tense all the way through. Otherwise it won't scare you.
Even lines like "Don't worry, it'll be fine when..." give you the hint of something bad and scary happening.
This doesn't really look like a usual horror movie. Maybe half.
