Chamataka - I had a look at your profile - based on the Favourites that you have stored, I am 100 % convinced you are a Tamilian and not a Kannadiga !
Really, thanks for letting me know that you are a stalker. How do you figure that I am a Tamilian and not a Kannadiga? Because I like Tamilian film songs and not Kannada film songs? Nice going, sherlock holmes. I am clearly a Tamilian just because I like Tamilian film songs.
Gopalakr1 - I have heard the Link forwarded by you. No doubt MSS is a great singer but Sudha has sung this song better simply because she has pronounced the Kannad words properly.
MSS has mis-pronounced quite a few words - infact right from the 1st sentence itself where the original song composed by Purandara Dasa has it as " Yashode" since that's how its pronounced in Kannada whereas MSS says as "Yashoda". It sounds terrible especially if you have heard the original composition of Purandara Dasa.
Thanks, well I cant speak for kannada songs but MSS learns a
song with language experts and understands the meaning quite well before performing, her annamacharya kritis are impeccable and bring forth the true bhava.
Anycase, most singers are great and its for us to enjoy what we like in each, endaro mahanubhavulu!
No, you are mistaken. First of all, Yashode and Yashoda are pretty much the same thing. However, the correct way to render this krithi is by following the translation of the composer, and I have studied the composition...the correct pronunciation is a "Yashoda". Stop talking.
Why is there so much bickering? Wouldn't it be so much more better without making any comparisons. To a mother her son/daughter is the best singer in the world any day. This is not a contest. Why cant we have healthy discussion about the composer, composition, raga, artha, bhava, bhakthi elements of this divine song. That I think will be more enriching.
She is originally from Bangalore, so she has a clear Kannada pronounciation. She is groomed by MLV, so no doubt about her Technical aspects, but lately she sings some very light numbers in a classical concert. She should stick to Trinity and Purandara dasa. There is lot of work still to be done in that area
I do wish she would perform like this more often. Lately, she does so much more "light" stuff, but she's clearly capable of performing at a very high level when she tries to. This is prime example.
I am so glad that she is not singing "adisidale soda" Many singers make that mistake.

Yashoda is name of person and can be pronounced in the language of choice - so it makes no sense to argue about it -

I am glad you confessed to being a Tamilian - anyway it was quite obvious to me - the dfay you showed your igorance about Kannada pronounciations.

Chamataka - I can't belive you are a Kannadiag ! You don't seem to know the Lyrics of the Original Composition of Sri Purandara Dasaru.

Im not taking sides, but I dont know if you listened to the right version of MS's song. check out the video with the id -

You can see Sudha performing but MS goes beyond the lyrics and abstracts into pure bhakti. Peace.
