THANK YOU for this video. Its nice to see you explain that our translation is accurate. We knew that and did not need to be convinced. Yes the Translation Committee got it right and God's name, Jehovah appears correctly in all locations about 7,000 times as it was in the original text. There are people out there that KNOW NOTHING about this subject and do nothing but criticise us for example TheLadyTamar who hates us and knows nothing about the subject. THANKS AGAIN thejwtruth
What is truly remarkable now is that the NWT is now in over 100 languages. In many of these languages, such as Japanese and others, it is the most popular and widely distributed of ANY translation. It is really a reliable translation that helps the reader understand the original message without using words like "hell" and "ghost" that have changed their meaning over time. Instead it uses "sheol" "hades" and "spirit" so that the reader can interpret without false notions.
I really appreciate this video. From my understanding, the Devine group that wrote the NWT was divinely and spiritually guided by Jehovah to make known what many have taken away from the Word. No need for fancy education when you have "Devine Guidance"!
Accurately translating the entire Bible from the original ancient Greek, ancient Hebrew, and ancient Aramaic is a task requiring a considerable degree of technical expertise. It is a job for bona fide Greek and Hebrew scholars. It is not a job for amateurs or dilettantes armed with a lexicon and having little real understanding of the subtleties of Greek and Hebrew grammar....at the same time leaving out context surrounding a phrase that will greatly assist in the right interpretation.
Thank you so much for taking the time to express this on your video. Maybe you can help me with a Hebrew word that I once found. The word is Taawath. I am sure that I found it once but can not for all my efforts find it again. I don't know how I found it in the first place, but the meaning had something to do with ( being desirable ) If you can help thank you in advance and if you can't thank you anyway. I love the way you say Yehovah.
It's refreashing to see someone interested in the accurate and unbiased rendering of the NWT instead of hearing from those who complain about how it condradicts their preconceived ideas and beliefs.
After all accuracy was the original intention of the International Bible Students Association over 100 years ago.
Actually, according to Strong's Definition #1697 ("Word(s)" in NWT, Darby Bible, Douay-Rheims Bible, The Message OR "Commandments" in KJV, NKJV, ASV, NASB, RSV, NRSV, ESV), its translation is "words" or "matters". Ironically, the best translation is none of the above-- the most accurate translation is "Matters" which done only by YLT (Young's Literal Translation, 1898)!
Satan is also Called Beelzebub which is associated to Baal..... Baal which means "Lord" Is very Much associated to Namless God Worship......Satan has cunningly Replaced "Jehovah" The name of the only True God with Lord......(Baal) Ancient Israel Went astray only when they Forgot Jehovah (Jeremiah 13:25) ...... “because you have forgotten me and you keep putting your trust in falsehood.
@onecalientelatino Sorry, this is not the case. Beelzebub and Satan are not the same. Beel (Baal) zebub is an ancient semitic deity, why Satan means adversary and can mean a human being. Jesus called Peter adversary (Satan in Hebrew). Satan is not even an "angel" (messenger). As a spiritual being the Bible describes him as a "State Attorney", an accuser for God (by the way).
@Dodikind That Satan means "adversary" JWs know this and a lot of their publications make this same point. But what u need to understand is: First, dont say "sorry" because u dont have a spiritual program of study similar to JWs. I never saw any walking in thousands of lands.Second: The omission of God´s name in ancient and modern Bible Translations should not be ignored. LORD is a modern way to say Baal with the same meaning. But Jehovah identifies the ONY TRUE GOD the Father of Jesus.
I do not say sorry for not using JWs publications. You got me totally wrong. To say sorry is just polite way to disagree with what onecalientelationo claims. I´m talking about real biblical science, not about religious dogmas. When I wrote this explanation I meant to bring some science into the issue. Take care.
@Dodikind Dear, Dodikind how are u? Thanks for sharing your ideas. calient latino is spanish used in mexico, argentina and chile but here is Brazil. lol But thanks any way for your kind atention and coments.
Nimrod Means "Rebel" He opposed Jehovah not only in the political element but religiously as well..... After the Deaths of Nimrod and his wife babylonian priests confirmed them as the gods Marduk and Astarte (Queen of Heaven Jer 7:18 associated with Mary Worship in the Catholic Church today) Baal Means "Lord" or Master in the Caananite language and is Close to the Hebrew Belim which also means Lord.
It all Started in Babylon.....When it was still called Babel.....Nimrod the Founder of Babel........was said to be "a mighty hunter in opposition to Jehovah' (Gen10:8,9) and it was he who instigated that the Tower of Babel should be built up to the Heavens. (in Case a global flood should arise a second time)
Professor Benjamin Kedar - he only uses the NWT for the HEBREW..the issue with the NWT is not on the HEBREW side - it is on the GREEK side..so do not use him as a source as people know that the divine name was there b
One last thing..and I mentioned this earlier.if the JW believe that the name of GOD was removed from the NT, then that would mean that the whole GOSPEL would be corrupted, what else could have been removed? Did the NWT translate from a complete HEBREW or the so-called REMOVED the divine name Greek Manuscripts (the corrupt one)..See my point - yo cant call the bible then holy what we translate from and then say its missing something..
I find most of the arguments against the new world translation really lacking in research. The WTBTS is a world leader when it comes to translating one language into an other. If I asked anyone on the street to count and say the different languages in this world, they would have a hard time counting 10 languages on there fingers. The WT mag is translated into a 188 languages, the AWK mag in 83 languages. They have no problem translating Koine Greek into english or biblical hebrew into english. :)
The book published by the watch tower society titled, "The Kingdom Inter Linear Translation of the Greek Scriptures", produced by New World Translation Committee, deliberately lied and listed Doctor J.R. Mantey (on page 1,158) as a reference. Mantey, an eminent greek scholar completely rejected the New World Translation and stated it's completely inaccurate & alters what the original texts actually say. Watch his video commenting on the NWT. His video is on the right titled "Mantey on NWT"
You're saying that the "anonymous" committee who had no formal training in any biblical language accurately translated the scriptures from the Koine Greek? There was one person on that committee who studied non-biblical Greek for two years and taught himself Hebrew. The rest had no formal training at all.
@ultimouomo11 heck even Fred Franz in court could not decipher a very easy hebrew scripture - he lied about what he knew and when tested what a 1st year Hebrew student could easily answer - whe want not sure..
@rhdtv2002 What u say here os a lie. you are repeating what others say over and over again. Franz was not asked to translate from Hebrew into English, but from English into Hebrew - a different matter altogether. Type in google:Frederick W. Franz and Biblical Hebrew. And see the REAL story. You are are lying when u repeat lies.
@queruvimwj - I speak spanish and english. Can I translate English to Spanish or Spanish to English..How irrelevant is what you said. he could not do it. If you know two languages you should be able to do allot of translations - especially what they tested which was something a 1st year student of hebrew could do easily..Now that is the truth
@ultimouomo11 The scriptures indicates that even the apostles were men "unlettered and ordinary". With God all things become possible. It is his word and he is able to use any means necessary (even of the most humble means) to preserve his original word.
@ozzynky There is a difference between preserving and perverting, between humility and arrogance. To espouse the notion that the teachings of Christ were lost for centuries until the jw's came along in the late 19th century is not only laughable but contradictory to what scripture teaches. You're no different than a mormon in terms of heresy and novelty. According to your beliefs Christ's Church disappeared for almost 1900 years, a direct contradiction to what Christ promises in scripture.
@ultimouomo11 I respect your opinion for sure. Respectfully, I believe that the facts are pretty clear. There are more secular bible scholars that believe this is the most accurate translation than other translations. You can draw whatever conclusions you want from that.
@ozzynky I don't know where you get your information from that sates most secular scholars believe it's the most accurate translation but that is a completely false and erroneous statement. The overwhelming majority of biblical scholars (both secular and religious) believe it to be the most biased, errant, and inaccurate translation in all of biblical history.
@ultimouomo11 In addition, JW's do not teach that correct truths were introduced only by JW's. To the contrary...they have praised many Christians throughout history that stood up for truths like Martin Luther and many others.
@ozzynky Martin Luther was a heretic, as was every other protestant throughout history. The damage caused to the Church of Christ by these men and the countless heretical beliefs and practices as a result of their betrayal is staggering. Each successive generation of heretics since Martin Luther has claimed to possess or "rediscover" the truth only to be rejected by the following generations once again. The legacy of these men has been the formation of countless disunited groups, not truth.
In fact, the New World Translation is a scholarly work., Professor Benjamin Kedar of Israel said:
"In my linguistic research with the Hebrew Bible and translation, I often refer to the English edition as what is known as the New World Translation. In doing so, I find my feeling repeatedly confirmed that this kind of work reflects an honest endeavor to achieve an understanding of the text that is as accurate as possible
Jason BeDuhn associate professor of religious studies in his book compares nine translations, "the New World Translation “is one of the most accurate English translations of the New Testament currently available”
i have two questions. why is it called new world scriptures. does it have anything to do with the new world order. also, are there any masonic references to the translation in these scriptures? thanks from someone looking for some answers.
@thrashtilwedie Isaiah used such expressions refering to a profecy that was fulfilled in his days. The same phrase used by N.T writers to refer to a new kingdom (new heavens) and a new society (new earth) that will emerge after the destruction of this system of things. Its not refering to the literal earth since Isaiahs 45 says the earth will exist forever. (Isaiah 45:18 compare to Eclesiastes 1:9 ans Rev 11:18)
@queruvimwj I cant thank you enough for posting this video. Many claim that the translation the JW's use is some falsely translated bible when it is actually the most accurate translation used today. Many would say you only quoted 2 examples, when if you actually translated every scripture in the bible to prove to the world its accuracy, they would simply look for a different reason to slander JW's. They dont believe the truth not even when it comes from a man that speaks both Hebrew and Greek.
@queruvimwj all religions teach this..you dont have to LITERALLY go door to door preaching because there is not ONE example of that in the scriptures. How else do you think non-denominational churchs which are NEW fill their churches..radio, internet, verbally, fliers...then they fill their seats...So dont go acting like you are the only ones preaching - PLEASE...
@dezamazing559 i am calm..I think you probably reading too much emotion into it....try reading it again with a different tone - that would be me...lol
@thrashtilwedie The NWO is an earthly organization run by the elite of the world - God's new world order is of course run by God and not the UN or Rothschild, Rockefeller or politicians. In fact it points out that the days of mans and satans rule is at an end. Don't confuse the two ... they have nothing in common.
@thrashtilwedie New world translation simply means it is a translation in modern language commonly used today. The name New world translation has no relationship to "NWO", other than the bible does explain that this wicked system of things will pass away. But New world translation simply means, its a bible written in a language we commonly use today.
what else is interesting, is when the dead sea scrolls were on display at museums around the world, the museums (not affiliated with the witnesses) translated the scriptures them selfs and it was bang on with the new world trasnlation.
@1ALWAYZTHINKING -No need to shout-Your comments are far from the truth. I have researched the Masonic society angle of apostates and have found it to be nothing but a bunch of Baloney. Return to Jehovah and Jehovah will return to you. Christ is our Judge not you.
@csliwinski no sir or ma'am, you seem to have a lack of understanding as i did, in Revelations it switches between Jehovah addressing and Jesus then addressing himself, would you like an indepth look on this subject?
@October31st1517 1 John 5:1 says... "We know we originate with God, but the WHOLE WORLD is lying in the [power of the] wicked one" So you´ve made your choice!
i just quit drugs and drinking cause a near death experience and i got this bible and a couple more just to learn about god and things and i got so upset cause my bro and his boy kept on teasing me about they threw my dvds about jesus away and slammed my bibles and started stomping then i don't what to do i need guidance
I grew up in Denmark. We used the local Danish Lutheran bible as the NWT was not available.
Not a problem!
When the NWT became available in Danish, they switched to it, but they never forgot the earlier standard Danish Lutheran Translation.
Maybe JWs are more open-minded that their detractors. All over the world they use whatever translations that are available in local languages. Some seem to think that all JWs have NWT translations in their own language, not so!!!!
Exactly. I think it is getting closer to 200 million copies and in the words of Prof Jason BeDuhn, Arizona University, is a MAJOR translation.
BTW, what is not known is that when Dwight Eisenhower was sworn in for his second term in 1957, he swore on a Bible that was printed by the WatchTower Society of Pensylvania.
True story !!!
It was not an NWT but the ASV 1901 which had Jehovah in the OT, but not in NT.
But WT published faithfully, didn't fiddle - because JWs are HONEST!
@customanalogue - wow this is the first time I heard of this. All congregations - and will do a research on this since I have some contacts at Bethel. The JW never ONCE use another bible in any of their meetings or studies with people. It is one of the first things they teach you when preaching is to bring them a NWT - and say that its easier to understand which is really a lie - its no easier than NSAB, NIV, American Standard, etc...but you bring something interesting - going to find out about
So I must be a liar when I carry a small KJV with me nearly all the time?
At meetings I have heard other translations quoted, even done it myself.
Sure, in English speaking congregations the NWT is the main-stay, just as in many Catholic lands it is the Douay in that language.
And what lie are you referring to. Inerestingly that Prof Jason D BeDuhn (Arizona Uni) reviewed a many translations and rated the NWT and another Catholic Bible HIGHLY. The NWT has no Trinity bias you want?
I think I must have about TEN translations right here.
I believe the NWT is available in 18 languages. There are PLENTY of JWs who don't live in countries which cover those 18. So they often use what's available. Before 50's even JWs in the US used the 1901 ASV - I have one right here in front of me. On the inside it says: Printed and Distributed by Watchtower Bible & Tract Society, Inc, 115 Adams St, Brooklyn NY.
There was no NWT available back then. The ASV used Jehovah in OT.
@mayuhavepeace yes, there was a secret group of unknown people who did the NWT and added things that definitely are not there and advantageous to their theology. Such as adding word in brackets such as OTHER when it was never there although their theology they say it was implied - which is not true - the word OTHER is definitely in the koine greek thus as JW argue about the name of GOD which is unprounceable removed from the OT, they ADD it where it never was in the NT - not ONCE.
> yes, there was a secret group of unknown people who did the NWT
Really! Ooh, I get goosebumps when you say that?
Then how come all the names are KNOWN.
Since you have already made up your mind and not open to a reasonable discussion, tell me why I should bother answer any of your conspiracy accusations?
As for ADDING, then I could tell you some absolute WHOPPERS where other translations you seem to prefer have added.
@mayuhavepeace sure thing - id love to debate. The names where revealed by who? by FORMER MEMBERS and 5 of the 6 listed had no education to translate.
That kind makes you sound like a bit... haughty? LIFE is an education !!!
Actually reminds me of the people that WROTE IT, the Apostles "they were unlettered men...". LOL
My own education was 2nd year High School, no diploma, left when I was 15. Yet I am now a leading R&D in current drive from voltage sources in my chosen field, and I get to speak to friend & scientists in ANU Canberra.
@mayuhavepeace so tell me - did the apostles on their own wrote or translated the scriptures in different languages? Uhhh no - unless they were full of the holy spirit and speaking in tongues preaching. So yes, when the translators - of today - do that - they generally are not full of the holy spirit translating but it is education on the ancient language that helps us understand in our modern language.
There is an area where the NWT may prove to be a trailblaizer. The first Bible to use the divine name in the NT.
This is significant as BeDuhn has raised this point as a criticism - and I accept his criticism even if I don't entirely agree with, but as BeDuhn himself says, if a fragment of the NT resurfaces, then all scholars will need to rethink.
The work by George Howard, who now strongly agrees with the inclusion, the key beeing that Matthew was written in Hebrew, Greek later.
We also know the Isaiah scroll Jesus quoted in Nazareth had the Jewish YHWH in it:
"he opened the scroll and found the place where it was written: “Jehovah’s spirit is upon me, because he anointed me to declare good news to the poor."
So both Septuagint and Hebrew scrolls had it in Jesus' day. But since Matthew wrote it first is Hebrew and then translated it into Greek, HE WOULD HAVE QUOTED THE GREEK SEPTUAGINT WITH "YHWH" IN IT.
@mayuhavepeace you said that Jesus quoted Jehovah's name...here is something I would ask you that is very easy to answer..how many times did Jesus say the name Jehovah PERSONALLY- meaning not reading ONE text from the Hebrews scriptures..That is the only reference that is not proof, because also the septuagint DID NOT have the divine name in it - why? because of Jewish customs on pronouncing it - writing is different than saying it..so I go back to the at question - how many times personally?
Your attitude is being exposed here as you are not trying to join the dots. You are making no effort at all and that is not to your credit.
Also, you have made a FACTUAL ERROR: The 1st century Septuagint *DID* have the Tetragram in Hebrew characters inserted into the Greek. This a PROVEN FACT.
So please start again - and consider that ALL books of the NT quotes the THEN available Septuagint.
Mat 4 being written is Hebrew 1st, then into "Septuagint" Greek - can you join the dots?
Google "matthew shem tov" and you will find a lot of info.
I have no qualifications in anything right now, but a friend and scientist, now retired but we still keep in touch, trained me how to do R&D - especially the "R" part. It was interesting to me, even though he is not religious, that the same methodology and broad priciples work. Problem is that many are mentally lazy and just don't get it.
So, don't be mentally lazy, I am not trying to be condescending, just good advice.
I't now been established conclusively the OT always had YHWH (Jewish Tretragram) and that later the Septuagint KEPT the Tetragram inserted in the Greek where the YHWH name was.
Later copies AFTER the 1st century, the Tetragram in the *OT* disappeared, POST Jesus.
Later copies AFTER the 1st century, the Tetragram in the *SEPTUAGINT* disappeared, POST Jesus.
IF the original NT writers had ALSO used the TETRAGRAM - IT WOULD ALSO HAVE BEEN MADE TO *DISAPPEAR*!
It is NOT just Jehovah's Witnesses who smelled a rat. In a few centuries the Tetragram was SHUNNED, not just from the NT, but also the OT and the Septuagint. And till today (but hopefully not from now on) even YOU have been led to think that the Tetragram was not included when they translated the OT from Hebrew to Greek?
So THAT was the Septuagint that Paul etc, quoted in Greek.
"When we come to the NT... a similar pattern evolved. Since the Tetragram was still written in the copies of the Greek Bible which made up the Scriptures of the early church, it is reasonable to believe that the NT writers, when quoting from Scripture, preserved the Tetragram within the biblical text. On... pre-Christian Jewish practice we can imagine that the NT text incorporated the Tetragram into its OT quotations and that the words Lord and God were used when secondary references to God."
"The Tetragram in these quotations would, of course, have remained as long as it continued to be used in the Christian copies of the LXX [Septuagint]. But when it was removed from the Greek OT, it was also removed from the quotations of the OT in the NT. Thus somewhere around the beginning of the second century the use of surrogates must have crowded out the Tetragram in BOTH Testaments. Before long the divine name was lost... [only] occasionally remembered by scholars."
@mayuhavepeace show the proof that it existed...bet you cant find ANY and in fact the manuscripts the JW use to translate from does not contain it and even the Kingdom Interlinear Translation (KIT of the JW) states this very clearly in their book and when you see the translation taking places you will NEVER EVER see the divine name there. Here is the next proof I have for you how wrong you are - IF you JUST STATE that that it was REMOVED - then what you translate from now is corrupt!!
Did anything come through at all, or is this just sticking to ONE FACT (as if that existed) and IGNORE ALL ELSE ???
Indeed I would love to talk to Jason BeDuhn face to face, because knowing he has made the same case as YOU, I am more than aware that he would may well shift his position if a plausible argument was presented.
So rather THINKING that you are using his "device" I can also tell from your tone that you don't have his more open disposition.
Jason BeDuhn: "It may be that some day a Greek manuscript of some portion of the NT will be found.. that has the letters YHWH in some verses.. When that happens, when the evidence is at hand, biblical researchers will have to give due consideration to the views held by NW editors."
BeDuhn made no mention of "Shem Tov Matthew YHWH" - DID you Google it?
So when evidence comes to hand, should we follow YOUR example? I think BeDuhn will eventually come around - BUT WHAT ABOUT YOU!
And by the way, Howard does not particluarly like JWs, yet the EVIDENCE he brings to the Hebrew Matthew is of great importance and he has a great supporting non-JW cast. Whether he or they like it or not, and whether he likes JWs or not, really isn't the issue, right.
So what is?
FACTS !!!
And those FACTS gives due support to the position taken by the NWT.
But you can lead a horse to water, BUT you can't make it drink. LOL
@mayuhavepeace also Paul quoted verses of Jesus being Jehovah... In the NT. we find Paul quoting Joel 2:32 where the name is Jehovah and applying it to Jesus in Rom.10:9-13. Also if you go to your own websited and find the NWT ONLINE - you will notice the bible is divided into TWO parts (Hebrew. th for the O.T and Greek for the NT). there is NO manuscript proof other that some questionable first father mentioning but like I said that is only ONE of 26, plus Jesus quoted from the septuagint too
Jesus didn't say to Satan: "Well, it was SUPPOSED to be say "You must not put Jehovah to the test" but I am not allowed to say Jehovah and so is neither of my future Apostles."
@mayuhavepeace and the proof is where..tell me where the manuscripts are but let suppose you are right - that is ONE book out of 26. Once again if you say if it was in the O.T - I agree - why is it not in the NT - as yourself why? Jesus always calls out to the FATHER. The WTBS even says one thing is to know what the 4 consonants are but other thing is to know WHO HE IS. If it was so important to Jehovah to know his name in the NT -why is it not there NOT once
And "Jesus is Jehovah" - some Trinitarians say he is and other say not.
So "a house divided against itself cannot stand."
In my mind there is ABSOLUTE CLARITY - early Christians never thought Jesus was Jehovah, to them Jesus was their BROTHER and Jehovah was their FATHER. Only the Trinity will give YOU that headache. LOL
"He was not ashamed of calling them BROTHERS." Heb 3:11
@mayuhavepeace ONE GOD only...go understand what the trinity is..you are far understanding...Go to catholic website and find out . The bible teaches to examine and to test, even the Bereans did this agains Paul - who we both should agree was probably greater than anyone at the society...YET, they did..Go to a website and read - not from the apostate JW sites or religions books they have but from the source of believers..JW dont have an issue with anyone reading theirs - now go read ours..test it
Now others like George Howard, a scholar with all the titles you desire (and no JW) is similarly insistent and he has pointed out that there was at least on record a Hebrew version of Matthew held in a Library in Syria for many centuries and that at least one early "father" made a copy for himself.
Most certainly there will be Hebrew copies somewhere and indeed the search is on, not lead by JWs, but by other like Hebraists etc.
As BeDuhn said, one fragment is all that's needed.
but "God" is without definite article in this verse so they failed to stick to their own rule they uphold that much-pick and choose whenever they need it-
THEREFORE NEVER TRUST THE NWT,THE LIKE TO TRANSLATE ONLY HOW THEY NEED IT!!!!!
'Numeric English' is the most accurate Greek to English I've found to date, but can't seem to find Numeric for Hebrew to english for Old Testament. U can download 'NWT' from JW's website or just read it there, same for 'REV' from TruthOrTradition. Although Numeric's is not giving from a certain view and shows only ' options of what could be, if not translatable then it is left for the reader'. Peace.
Let me ask you a question. In John 17:3, are the words "Taking in knowledge" in the original greek. Also the NWT was not translated by JW's. The translator's do not wish to identify themselves.
@October31st1517 of course it is according to a literal translation of the word.Vine's Expository Dictionary says, under 'know':"GINOSKO...signifies to be taking in knowledge, to come to know, recognize, understand, or to understand completely..."The Companion Bible says in it's Appendix 132:"ginosko=to know(by experence, or effort); to acquire knowledge, become acquainted with; hence to come or get to know, learn, percieve..."
i have to question any bible that have taken things out , in the book of revelation it say it is wrong to take anything out , so with that no bible can be an aaccurate translation if it has taken God name out there is no way to reason on this, there are many GODS in the bible day and also now, i believe in he who name is Jehovah, this name appeared more than 7000 time in the bible and it was taken out
@lovelynann thats my basis for acknowledging wether or not a bible is accurate for referencing from, although i do comparisons of many tranlations. good comment
Does anyone know how or where to get a copy of the NWT, without having to have Jehovah's Witness come to your home. I would really love to find a copy of my own to reaserch. Thanks.
@upwordbound-The NWT is not for sale it is free. You may go to a Kingdom Hall near you, check the meeting time, come 15-20 minutes early and request a copy. No obligation to stay or say another word. OR you may phone a Congregation and one will be delivered to your home with no obligation.
@upwordbound We cannot go past the first verse in Genesis 1:1 to find the first mistranslation. Elohim was changed to "god". We are off to a bad start! This intentional Capital Crime was committed 680 times. There are a lot more!!!
All Greek Scholars learn Greek from someone. It is naive to think that a trinitarian scholar would not be biased. After comparing the Greek text with many translations I would have to agree with the conclusions of Jason Beduhn. 'Truth in Translation' "biases of the NW translators do not account for most of the differences of the NW from the other tranlations. Most of the differences are due to the GREATER ACCURACY of the NW." Have not seen anyone prove him wrong, only character assassintion.
@1biblestudent I've been having doubts about the trinity/non-trinity issue myself. But what I really notice is how it's always ad-hominem and personal attacks by those who argue for the trinity by attacking the Jehovah's Witnesses. Yet none raises a voice that more than the NWT renders passages a certain way. And as said, trinitarians are ofc unbiased. Regardless of having interpretation monopoly and access to violent retribution of "heathens" and whatnot...
Respond to this video... then read Thomas A. Howe..he wrote about the Truth in Translation bias that Jason Beduhn had..there is a PDF out there to read also w-w-w.forananswerDOTorg/Top_JW/Scholars and NWTDOThtm
@jajajajajake Jesus wasn't going to be in paradise on that day. He remained in the tomb for 3 days and didn't ascend to heaven for quite a few days later. So what paradise was Jesus referring to? Jesus also said that a person had to be born again to enter heaven. was the man impaled alongside Jesus born again?
@DONTBELAZYCHECKALL the texts I have presented in this video show us something different! Answer it ! Dr White is s sick anti- JW. His opinion is NOT filology but bias and his prefered theology.
@DOCSAFETUBE doc..actually, he is in history books. Josephus spoke of him..as being the one pilat put to death..and josephus is a renowned historian. But, keep in mind, jesus came to the earth to accomplish something..and he did it. But, to the world..and to the romans..he was just another jew who was put to death for plasphemy..not an uncommon thing.
@kiwichristian2009 Overwhelming? Well, then, lay it out! And let's discuss it! I have studied the bible for thirty years..and I feel it is overwhelming that he is NOT God, but is God's son!
@DOCSAFETUBE wow..you are quite the human..ever take a charm course? LOL. I see that knowledge that is accurate is not something you strive for. As for the number of friends I have?..well, that's just silliness on your part. I am pretty picky about who I choose as a friend! You are the one making the accusations..and there is NO proof at all..I did the research..if you cannot have a conversation without resorting to word vomit..then please, refrain from speaking! It will be less cleanup!
@DOCSAFETUBE hey doc..hate to burst YOUR bubble..but who wrote teh bible itself?..were they educated men?..do you honestly think that there are no refrences, nor scholars available with whom they could have consulted? Your accusation are baseless..as for the comment about americans?..that's silly..JWs are not a national religion..we are earthwide and do not have borders among ourselves..your bigotry is getting in the way of your common sense.
@Ni1234ck ?..how does this present any kind of lie?..the difference in wording does not change the meaning in the least..those in union with Christ have no condemnation..those now in union with christ, have no condemnation. What's the difference? Now is implied becusae if you are in union with christ, it is a ongoing situation..either you are or you are not in union. I see nothing here to detract from the NWT. Can you explain further?..and wny you see a problem?
@BJJistheway "PROSKUNEW-to kiss, to do reverence or homage by kissing the hand; in NT to do reverence or homage by prostration,...to pay divine homage, worship, adore." The New Analytical Greek Lexicon by Wesley J. Perschbacher
hello, i would like to ask why the word "other" has been added in 1 Col 1:16-20? if you don't know the answer maybe you can look it up in the Watchtower library. thank you!
@77MiaFia Professor Rolf Furuli when talking about the word "other" in the Col. 1:16 in the NWT says, "This means that the brackets that NWT uses around OTHER may be removed, because the word OTHER is no addition or interpolation, but in a given context it is a legitimate part of PAS."
@Ni1234ck Lexicons: The renowned Greek-English Lexicon (Bauer - Arndt - Gingrich - Danker) [BAGD] translates 'νυν, nun' - among other possibilities - as "as far as the present situation is compared" or as "for now I tell you this." Abbot-Smith's lexicon defines 'νυν, nun' as "Now, presently...presently, forthwith, ...now, therefore, now, however, as it is..."
@Ni1234ck Before jumping to conclusions about a particular rendering, it's good to look the Greek words up in one or more authoritative lexicons. We can spare ourselves much embarrassment that way, as we begin to realise that there is more than one way to translate a particular word or expression.
@Ni1234ck The New English Bible translates the passage in question: "The conclusion of the matter is this: there is no condemnation for those who are united with Christ." Likewise, Goodspeed's translation reads: "So there is no condemnation any more for those who are in union with Christ Jesus." There are at least a dozen other English translations that don't use the word 'now' in this verse. Surely they haven't all 'deliberately missed out' the word!
@topbon2ndvalve The word for “god” in Greek is QEOS. In John 1:1 the last occurrence of QEOS is called “a predicate noun” or, “a predicate nominative”. Such a noun tells us something about the subject, instead of telling what the subject is doing. This use of QEOS has reference to the subject, the Word, and does not have the article preceding it; it is anarthrous
@topbon2ndvalve . This indicates that it is not definite. That is to say, it does not tell what position or office or rank the subject (the Word) occupies. The verb HN “was” follows the predicate noun QEOS; this is another factor in identifying QEOS here as qualitative. This discloses the quality or character of the Word.
@topbon2ndvalve To understand the translation "the Word was a god," let us look at John 6:70. When speaking of his betrayer Judas Iscariot, Jesus said, "One of you is a devil."ASV Did Jesus mean that Judas is actually Satan the Devil? No! He merely meant to say that Judas is like (class) a devil, or that he has the qualities of a devil. The word "devil" here has no article in the greek, but most translators deem it necessary to add the "a" to complete the thought.
@topbon2ndvalve Leave the judgement for God. As I staeted before.... if anyone atks JWs faith on the basis of hatred I am going to delete the comments. So, dont waste your time writing hatred.
@topbon2ndvalve When i say attacks on the WTBTS ... thats fine you can think what you want ... but people tend not to want to have a bible based discussion instead they attack the society. As for the translation i read many and this is only one plus we encourage everyone to use there own Bible. As for the trinity... its orgin is as much "heresy" as what you say Russell did if not worse due to its political implications at the time.
@topbon2ndvalve Simply put, there are two issues effecting the translating of the verse, theology and proper application of grammatical rules. As far as theology goes what you believe will lead you to be biased in translation. As for the app. of grammatical rules.. they have often been misused to defend the deity of Christ. To which I point to the evidence found in the sahidic coptic which gives us a greater understanding due to its uniqueness in language and source. Popularity means nothing.
@topbon2ndvalve Actual usage of the Sahidic Coptic noun "noute" in the Coptic New Testament strongly suggests that it is a count noun that, when bound with the Coptic indefinite article, should be translated into English as "a god." For example, Coptic scholar George Horner's English translation of the Coptic at Acts 28:6 (Bohairic) has "a god." Coptic scholar Bentley Layton gives "a god" for the literal interlinear translation of "u.noute".
@topbon2ndvalve "The text of John 1:1 has a sordid past and a myriad of interpretations. With the Greek alone, we can create empathic, orthodox, creed-like statements, or we can commit pure and unadulterated heresy. From the point of view of early church history, heresy develops when a misunderstanding arises concerning Greek articles, the predicate nominative, and grammatical word order."
– David A. Reed
In regards to this scripture its foolish to leave out the possiblitys...being biased.
I deleted Johnthreesixteen316´s comments cause he doesn´t respect ! Cloud 144.000 uses the scriptures and try to answer him all the time but he say phrases full of adjectives , judgments and plagues. Learn THE RESPECT MAN.
@queruvimwj Its ok... its very common to hear attacks toward the WTBTS and not really a bible based disscusion. It seems like anything that comes out of the Societys is critized automatically and almost instinctly by people. They dont seem to understand the

I've compared the NWT with other bibles and I must say it's a very good translation.
52flipflop 1 month ago 4
What is truly remarkable now is that the NWT is now in over 100 languages. In many of these languages, such as Japanese and others, it is the most popular and widely distributed of ANY translation. It is really a reliable translation that helps the reader understand the original message without using words like "hell" and "ghost" that have changed their meaning over time. Instead it uses "sheol" "hades" and "spirit" so that the reader can interpret without false notions.
robinsonworld 2 months ago
I really appreciate this video. From my understanding, the Devine group that wrote the NWT was divinely and spiritually guided by Jehovah to make known what many have taken away from the Word. No need for fancy education when you have "Devine Guidance"!
thekisha951 2 months ago

Good health to you! Acts 15:29.

“because you have forgotten me and you keep putting your trust in falsehood.
onecalientelatino 6 months ago
@onecalientelatino Sorry, this is not the case. Beelzebub and Satan are not the same. Beel (Baal) zebub is an ancient semitic deity, why Satan means adversary and can mean a human being. Jesus called Peter adversary (Satan in Hebrew). Satan is not even an "angel" (messenger). As a spiritual being the Bible describes him as a "State Attorney", an accuser for God (by the way).
Dodikind 4 months ago
@Dodikind That Satan means "adversary" JWs know this and a lot of their publications make this same point. But what u need to understand is: First, dont say "sorry" because u dont have a spiritual program of study similar to JWs. I never saw any walking in thousands of lands.Second: The omission of God´s name in ancient and modern Bible Translations should not be ignored. LORD is a modern way to say Baal with the same meaning. But Jehovah identifies the ONY TRUE GOD the Father of Jesus.

One last thing..and I mentioned this earlier.if the JW believe that the name of GOD was removed from the NT, then that would mean that the whole GOSPEL would be corrupted, what else could have been removed?

You're saying that the "anonymous" committee who had no formal training in any biblical language accurately translated the scriptures from the Koine Greek? There was one person on that committee who studied non-biblical Greek for two years and taught himself Hebrew. The rest had no formal training at all.
ultimouomo11 7 months ago
@ultimouomo11 heck even Fred Franz in court could not decipher a very easy hebrew scripture - he lied about what he knew and when tested what a 1st year Hebrew student could easily answer - whe want not sure..

Q: So that you have a substantion linguistic apparatus at your command?

Q: I think you are able to read and follow the Bible in Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and French?
A: Yes.
this would easily be translated by 1st year Heb student

@ultimouomo11 The scriptures indicates that even the apostles were men "unlettered and ordinary". With God all things become possible. It is his word and he is able to use any means necessary (even of the most humble means) to preserve his original word.
ozzynky 6 months ago
@ozzynky There is a difference between preserving and perverting, between humility and arrogance. To espouse the notion that the teachings of Christ were lost for centuries until the jw's came along in the late 19th century is not only laughable but contradictory to what scripture teaches. You're no different than a mormon in terms of heresy and novelty. According to your beliefs Christ's Church disappeared for almost 1900 years, a direct contradiction to what Christ promises in scripture.
ultimouomo11 6 months ago
@ultimouomo11 I respect your opinion for sure. Respectfully, I believe that the facts are pretty clear. There are more secular bible scholars that believe this is the most accurate translation than other translations. You can draw whatever conclusions you want from that.
ozzynky 6 months ago
@ozzynky I don't know where you get your information from that sates most secular scholars believe it's the most accurate translation but that is a completely false and erroneous statement. The overwhelming majority of biblical scholars (both secular and religious) believe it to be the most biased, errant, and inaccurate translation in all of biblical history.
ultimouomo11 6 months ago
@ultimouomo11 In addition, JW's do not teach that correct truths were introduced only by JW's. To the contrary...they have praised many Christians throughout history that stood up for truths like Martin Luther and many others.
ozzynky 6 months ago
@ozzynky Martin Luther was a heretic, as was every other protestant throughout history. The damage caused to the Church of Christ by these men and the countless heretical beliefs and practices as a result of their betrayal is staggering. Each successive generation of heretics since Martin Luther has claimed to possess or "rediscover" the truth only to be rejected by the following generations once again. The legacy of these men has been the formation of countless disunited groups, not truth.

The "New World Translation" Scholarly and Honest
In fact, the New World Translation is a scholarly work., Professor Benjamin Kedar of Israel said:
"In my linguistic research with the Hebrew Bible and translation, I often refer to the English edition as what is known as the New World Translation. thrashtilwedie 9 months ago

@thrashtilwedie New world translation simply means it is a translation in modern language commonly used today. The name New world translation has no relationship to "NWO", other than the bible does explain that this wicked system of things will pass away.

But WT published faithfully, didn't fiddle - because JWs are HONEST!
customanalogue 9 months ago
@customanalogue - wow this is the first time I heard of this. All congregations - and will do a research on this since I have some contacts at Bethel. The JW never ONCE use another bible in any of their meetings or studies with people. It is one of the first things they teach you when preaching is to bring them a NWT - and say that its easier to understand which is really a lie - its no easier than NSAB, NIV, American Standard, etc...but you bring something interesting - going to find out about
rhdtv2002 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
The NWT has no Trinity bias you want?
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
The ASV used Jehovah in OT.
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@mayuhavepeace yes, there was a secret group of unknown people who did the NWT and added things that definitely are not there and advantageous to their theology. Such as adding word in brackets such as OTHER when it was never there although their theology they say it was implied - which is not true - the word OTHER is definitely in the koine greek thus as JW argue about the name of GOD which is unprounceable removed from the OT, they ADD it where it never was in the NT - not ONCE.
rhdtv2002 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
> yes, there was a secret group of unknown people who did the NWT
But I suppose that is OK with you?

mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@mayuhavepeace so tell me - did the apostles on their own wrote or translated the scriptures in different languages? Uhhh no - unless they were full of the holy spirit and speaking in tongues preaching. So yes, when the translators - of today - do that - they generally are not full of the holy spirit translating but it is education on the ancient language that helps us understand in our modern language.

"Now when they beheld the outspokenness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were men unlettered and ordinary."

Look, those scribes LOOKED DOWN UPON THEM! Just WHAT you are doing right now.
So when you say NWT translators were "uneducated" - WHAT is the real INTENT you have?
The implication is that they had NO education? I can tell you that the dreaded WTS does know HOW to educate.
But the Churches and their paid "factories" a la seminaries DO?

mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
The work by George Howard, who now strongly agrees with the inclusion, the key beeing that Matthew was written in Hebrew, Greek later.
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
We know the Greek Septuagint with YHWH was available in the 1st century. So when Mathew quoted Jesus in 4:
"It is written, ‘Man must live, not on bread alone, but on every utterance coming forth through Jehovah’s mouth."
“Again it is written, ‘You must not put Jehovah your God to the test"
“Go away, Satan! For it is written, ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service."
Note it says it is WRITTEN and YHWH was in the SEPTUAGINT.
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002

@mayuhavepeace you said that Jesus quoted Jehovah's name...here is something I would ask you that is very easy to answer..how many times did Jesus say the name Jehovah PERSONALLY- meaning not reading ONE text from the Hebrews scriptures..That is the only reference that is not proof, because also the septuagint DID NOT have the divine name in it - why? because of Jewish customs on pronouncing it - writing is different than saying it..so I go back to the at question - how many times personally?
rhdtv2002 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
Mat 4 being written is Hebrew 1st, then into "Septuagint" Greek - can you join the dots?
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
So, don't be mentally lazy, I am not trying to be condescending, just good advice.
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
*ALL* 3 DISAPPEARRED!
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
The FILTERING took place AFTERWARDS!!!
That FILTERING SHUNNED GOD'S NAME *EVERYWHERE*!
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
"When we come to the NT... a similar pattern evolved. Since the Tetragram was still written in the copies of the Greek Bible which made up the Scriptures of the early church, it is reasonable to believe that the NT writers, when quoting from Scripture, preserved the Tetragram within the biblical text. On... pre-Christian Jewish practice we can imagine that the NT text incorporated the Tetragram into its OT quotations and that the words Lord and God were used when secondary references to God."
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
Howard Quote Part 2:
"The Tetragram in these quotations would, of course, have remained as long as it continued to be used in the Christian copies of the LXX [Septuagint]. But when it was removed from the Greek OT, it was also removed from the quotations of the OT in the NT. Thus somewhere around the beginning of the second century the use of surrogates must have crowded out the Tetragram in BOTH Testaments. Before long the divine name was lost... [only] occasionally remembered by scholars."
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@mayuhavepeace show the proof that it existed...bet you cant find ANY and in fact the manuscripts the JW use to translate from does not contain it and even the Kingdom Interlinear Translation (KIT of the JW) states this very clearly in their book and when you see the translation taking places you will NEVER EVER see the divine name there. Here is the next proof I have for you how wrong you are - IF you JUST STATE that that it was REMOVED - then what you translate from now is corrupt!!
rhdtv2002 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
Have a totally closed mindset?
Did anything come through at all, or is this just sticking to ONE FACT (as if that existed) and IGNORE ALL ELSE ???
Indeed I would love to talk to Jason BeDuhn face to face, because knowing he has made the same case as YOU, I am more than aware that he would may well shift his position if a plausible argument was presented.
So rather THINKING that you are using his "device" I can also tell from your tone that you don't have his more open disposition.
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002

@rhdtv2002
LOL
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
Just for a moment VISUALISE THIS:
Matthew chapter 4, a fasting Jesus is approached by Satan and tempted, to eat bread, then to hurl himself down. Jesus answers:
"Again it is WRITTEN, ‘You must not put Jehovah your God to the test." NWT version.
This is puzzling. The above MUST be correct. Jesus was speaking HEBREW, he was QUOTING Deut 6:16:
"YOU must not put Jehovah YOUR God to the test."
And Jesus said it was ***WRITTEN*** !!!!
What more do you need? EVIDENCE RIGHT THERE !!!
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@mayuhavepeace also Paul quoted verses of Jesus being Jehovah... In the NT. we find Paul quoting Joel 2:32 where the name is Jehovah and applying it to Jesus in Rom.10:9-13. Also if you go to your own websited and find the NWT ONLINE - you will notice the bible is divided into TWO parts (Hebrew. th for the O.T and Greek for the NT). there is NO manuscript proof other that some questionable first father mentioning but like I said that is only ONE of 26, plus Jesus quoted from the septuagint too
rhdtv2002 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
And the clincher, IF you needed one?
Mathew wrote THIS IN *HEHREW* !!!
And the passage has THREE INSTANCES OF THIS !!!
Jesus didn't say to Satan: "Well, it was SUPPOSED to be say "You must not put Jehovah to the test" but I am not allowed to say Jehovah and so is neither of my future Apostles."
And that would have given Satan a hearty LAUGH!
IF IT IS IN THE OT IT ***MUST*** BE IN THE NT.
Or we shall allways be in a LOT OF STRIFE. LOL
And *WHEN* did the PROHIBITION take place?
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@mayuhavepeace and the proof is where..tell me where the manuscripts are but let suppose you are right - that is ONE book out of 26. Once again if you say if it was in the O.T - I agree - why is it not in the NT - as yourself why? Jesus always calls out to the FATHER. The WTBS even says one thing is to know what the 4 consonants are but other thing is to know WHO HE IS. If it was so important to Jehovah to know his name in the NT -why is it not there NOT once
rhdtv2002 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
A balloon only needs one prick hole POOF !!!
How man prick holes can a balloon survive?
NONE! LOL
LOL
"He was not ashamed of calling them BROTHERS." Heb 3:11
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@mayuhavepeace ONE GOD only...go understand what the trinity is..you are far understanding...Go to catholic website and find out . The bible teaches to examine and to test, even the Bereans did this agains Paul - who we both should agree was probably greater than anyone at the society...YET, they did..Go to a website and read - not from the apostate JW sites or religions books they have but from the source of believers..JW dont have an issue with anyone reading theirs - now go read ours..test it
rhdtv2002 6 months ago
I have asked MANY TRINITARIANS:
"He was not ashamed of calling them BROTHERS." Heb 3:11
Does the Trinity have BROTHERS ?
Were Jesus disciples BROTHERS OF GOD ???
OR were they BROTHERS OF GOD'S SON ???
"‘Truly I say to YOU, To the extent that YOU did it to one of the least of these my brothers, YOU did it to me.’"
HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT ??? !!!
The Catholics even says that GOD HAS A MOTHER !!! Do YOU AGREE?
God gave you Trinitarians brains, then please use them.
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@mayuhavepeace you dont understand the Trinity clearly...Go first learn it and come back...
rhdtv2002 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
"you dont understand the Trinity clearly.."
FINALLY YOU ARE RIGHT !!
Besides NOBODY UNDERSTANDS THE TRINITY "CLEARLY" because it is...
INCOMPREHENSIBLE.
So does the Trinity have BROTHERS, does the Trninity, as Catholics say, have a MOTHER, Jesus even said SISTERS ???
And if Jesus truly is a "Son" - then does he not owe his exixtance to the "Father"?
Otherwiise, the Father is NOT TRULY the Father of Jesus, and Jesus is NOT TRULY the Son of the Father.
Trinity makes ZERO SENSE!
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@rhdtv2002
As BeDuhn said, one fragment is all that's needed.
mayuhavepeace 6 months ago
@mayuhavepeace ONE HEBREW in MATTHEWS..no proof...but what about the other Gospels and Pauls letters..that is one book of 26..

A BETTER EXAMPLE FOR PICK AND CHOOSE OF THE DEFINITE ARTICLE IN REFENCE TO JOHN 1:1 BY JW-ORG IS FOUND IN
2 COR.5:19 "namely, that God was by means of Christ reconciling a world himself,.."(NWT)
" ὡς ὅτι θεὸς ἦν ἐν Χριστῷ κόσμον καταλλάσσων ἑαυτῷ,"
but "God" is without definite article in this verse so they failed to stick to their own rule they uphold that much-pick and choose whenever they need it-
THEREFORE NEVER TRUST THE NWT,THE LIKE TO TRANSLATE ONLY HOW THEY NEED IT!!!!!
Ni1234ckA 1 year ago

October31st1517 1 year ago

@upwordbound-The NWT is not for sale it is free. You may go to a Kingdom Hall near you, check the meeting time, come 15-20 minutes early and request a copy. No obligation to stay or say another word. OR you may phone a Congregation and one will be delivered to your home with no obligation.

@1biblestudent amen brother!!! great point.
shihtzufizzers 1 year ago 3
@1biblestudent I've been having doubts about the trinity/non-trinity issue myself. But what I really notice is how it's always ad-hominem and personal attacks by those who argue for the trinity by attacking the Jehovah's Witnesses. Yet none raises a voice that more than the NWT renders passages a certain way. And as said, trinitarians are ofc unbiased. Regardless of having interpretation monopoly and access to violent retribution of "heathens" and whatnot...

@77MiaFia Professor Rolf Furuli when talking about the word "other" in the Col. 1:16 in the NWT says, "This means that the brackets that NWT uses around OTHER may be removed, because the word OTHER is no addition or interpolation, but in a given context it is a legitimate part of PAS."

@Ni1234ck Lexicons: The renowned Greek-English Lexicon (Bauer - Arndt - Gingrich - Danker) [BAGD] translates 'νυν, nun' - among other possibilities - as "as far as the present situation is compared" or as "for now I tell you this." Abbot-Smith's lexicon defines 'νυν, nun' as "Now, presently...presently, forthwith, ...now, therefore, now, however, as it is..."
queruvimwj 1 year ago
@Ni1234ck Before jumping to conclusions about a particular rendering, it's good to look the Greek words up in one or more authoritative lexicons. We can spare ourselves much embarrassment that way, as we begin to realise that there is more than one way to translate a particular word or expression.
queruvimwj 1 year ago 2
@Ni1234ck The New English Bible translates the passage in question: "The conclusion of the matter is this: there is no condemnation for those who are united with Christ." Likewise, Goodspeed's translation reads: "So there is no condemnation any more for those who are in union with Christ Jesus." There are at least a dozen other English translations that don't use the word 'now' in this verse. Surely they haven't all 'deliberately missed out' the word!
queruvimwj 1 year ago
@Ni1234ck In this verse, the NWT hasn't missed out the word 'now'; it has merely translated the Greek expression 'αρα νυν, ara nun' as 'therefore'.

@topbon2ndvalve The word for “god” in Greek is QEOS. In John 1:1 the last occurrence of QEOS is called “a predicate noun” or, “a predicate nominative”. Such a noun tells us something about the subject, instead of telling what the subject is doing. This use of QEOS has reference to the subject, the Word, and does not have the article preceding it; it is anarthrous
queruvimwj 1 year ago
@topbon2ndvalve . This indicates that it is not definite. That is to say, it does not tell what position or office or rank the subject (the Word) occupies. The verb HN “was” follows the predicate noun QEOS; this is another factor in identifying QEOS here as qualitative. This discloses the quality or character of the Word.
queruvimwj 1 year ago
@topbon2ndvalve To understand the translation "the Word was a god," let us look at John 6:70. When speaking of his betrayer Judas Iscariot, Jesus said, "One of you is a devil."ASV Did Jesus mean that Judas is actually Satan the Devil? No! He merely meant to say that Judas is like (class) a devil, or that he has the qualities of a devil. The word "devil" here has no article in the greek, but most translators deem it necessary to add the "a" to complete the thought.

queruvimwj 1 year ago
@topbon2ndvalve When i say attacks on the WTBTS ... thats fine you can think what you want ... but people tend not to want to have a bible based discussion instead they attack the society. As for the translation i read many and this is only one plus we encourage everyone to use there own Bible. As for the trinity... its orgin is as much "heresy" as what you say Russell did if not worse due to its political implications at the time.
cloud144000 1 year ago
@topbon2ndvalve Simply put, there are two issues effecting the translating of the verse, theology and proper application of grammatical rules. As far as theology goes what you believe will lead you to be biased in translation. As for the app. of grammatical rules.. they have often been misused to defend the deity of Christ. To which I point to the evidence found in the sahidic coptic which gives us a greater understanding due to its uniqueness in language and source. Popularity means nothing.
cloud144000 1 year ago
@topbon2ndvalve Actual usage of the Sahidic Coptic noun "noute" in the Coptic New Testament strongly suggests that it is a count noun that, when bound with the Coptic indefinite article, should be translated into English as "a god." For example, Coptic scholar George Horner's English translation of the Coptic at Acts 28:6 (Bohairic) has "a god." Coptic scholar Bentley Layton gives "a god" for the literal interlinear translation of "u.noute".
cloud144000 1 year ago
@topbon2ndvalve "The text of John 1:1 has a sordid past and a myriad of interpretations. With the Greek alone, we can create empathic, orthodox, creed-like statements, or we can commit pure and unadulterated heresy. From the point of view of early church history, heresy develops when a misunderstanding arises concerning Greek articles, the predicate nominative, and grammatical word order."
– David A. Reed
