Oh and besides (heres we're people get angry from brutal honest opinion) Total War series year after year has brought something new to the table in terms of games play. Every series i played made me change my strategy slightly but not so much as to alienate a long time fan like myself. I';ve played AOE up to 3. Then i saw Shogun was slightly impressed .As soon as i played Rome AOE became obsolete. AOE 3 just guaranteed that fate by not changing.

@camcorder777 AOE empires staying the way it was for over ten years is what killed it. IT was a grand game but they added stupid features that didn't make it any different. They added some guns and glitter basically. There was no fundamental change to the games dynamics which forced the player to change there dominant strategy from previous games therefore no excitement or challenge. I don't blame anyone for being piss'd off after paying for that replication.

When you can't get in a fortifed area, get yourself a pair of trebuchets(range17) and cannons(range12). Not only will you outrange your opponent's defences but you will make short work of them in no time also.

And after that a large army of Paladins (last upgrade for cavalry) should do the trick. I tested that unit against a pikeman and it wins in 1 vs 1(all upgrades made).

That's how i used to play this game back in the old days :).

english longbows is a good idea, but you will need both trebuchets or cannons, and pikemen(helbardiers). You will need the pike men to defend against cavalry attacks.

camels are pretty good I guess. I think they are faster than the paladins... but the overall strenght is no match for a paladin. I don't have proof but I'm guessing a paladin can take out two camels. Paladins ARE expensive though so ... if you lack the resources I guess those can do.

Longbowman are great I agree. Those guys have an annoyingly long range. Haven't played with them too much but I'm guessing they're pretty good also.

Paladins are strong against infantry, archers, buildings actully the most, but camels are good against cavalry. Therefore use paladins to attack others and if they got paladins use camel youself.

I know that camels beat paladins course i used this tactic on my brother a few weeks ago

hahahaha i know a few good ones i am not that good i know it hahaha ive played aoe for a long time but i stopped and got back on i know how to fair against 3 computers on moderate heres the trick get 2 barracks 2 archer range 2 stables and get these units they are literaly free get pikemen or halibaerds get elite skirmishers and light calvary or hassars and get ur castle units too and u can win for seige just by trebutches they are money worths

i used to love aoe 2 & 3, but then i found total war. i got rome total war and somehow aoe lost my interest. i find total war more realistic as a strategy game. aeo does not have the effects of morale stamina on combat, maps are small, economy not as complex. so yeah. AOE was too easy and unrealistic, still awesome though.
