  • Holy hell man, that guitar has an INCREDIBLE tone...is it all stock? I'm looking into buying one as a platform for upgrading, but by the way it sounds, it doesn't really seem to need it.. Any words of advice from one who actually owns one? Thanks... GREAT picking by the way.

  • @ShredIsNotDead1986 It has pretty decent stock pickup, i changed it after a while with some vintage one (the stock sx are quite aggressive, especially the bridge, but with a nice dynamic and a telecaster soul). Consider is a cheap instrument, so plastic bad nut (measure are classical Fender so a pre shaped Graphtech Tusq for strat/tele fit) and cheap selector and pots easily to upgrade, but it plays surprising well even stock, much better than a lot of mex teles (and even some usa's)

  • sounds great! I'm jealous that it has the correct tele headstock shape vs. the ugly headstock available in the US...:(

  • SX guitars sound almost identical to the real thing, but never get any respect bcuz the name isnt well known enough. guitars can never be judged by thier name

  • @guitarplaya608JM i'm trying to get a bit of respect by my playing, so i'm really not interested on what is written on headstock. After a pair of years, a change of pickup and minor changes i can say this tele really rocks and not just for his price.

  • @rafport well you have my respect, great guitar

  • @rafport what exactly the model of the picks you changed? and possible modifications

  • @leighdj15 i buyed a used set of Fender American Standrd pickup, the stock pickup of an American Standard of someone who changed their pickups. I don't think Fender sells separately like other pickups. It play very nice here, but i prefer other single coils in general. It's easy find on eBay because many AM Std users upgrade their pickups so that kit has not a big value used

  • @guitarplaya608JM

The guitar looks AND sound really nice!!! I have got 3 SXs. the Vintage white telecopy, an SX Jazz bass and SX natural stratocaster copy, I gave both guitars the sound test with Sam Ash and Guitar Center employees, playing MIMs Fenders and SX while they had their backs turned listening to me play and they could not tell which was an SX and which was a Fender, when I rolled off the treble on the Fenders, they assume I was using the SXs.

  • is this for rockabilly n country or only for blues n funk??

  • @MrKennyMiles it is a pretty good telecaster, and stock pickups are not bad at all, so it suitable for lot of usage as tele are versatile instruments. being a semi hollow it need care with extreme high gain tones, but i hope anyone buy a thinline to do death metal :)

  • Your awesome! & that guitar playing is beautiful... :0) Going to rondo now-I just hope I can make it sound as amazing... :0)

  • @DavinaFaerie thank you. if you seek for newer videos, i changed the pickups some months ago and some other mod and now it is a really killer tone guit. anyway at a starting point, this guitar is a very nice telecaster model and play even stock better than various teles of much higher pricerange

  • How much would one of these cost in Australia? Thanks guys.

  • @DavinaFaerie Check on Rondo Music website, it is the USA store for SX guitars and did worldwide shipment. It should be rather cheap even with shipment

  • @rafport Thanks for getting back to me, you're awesome... :0)

I found an Au store on ebay & they sell them for $299 + $20 shipping, is that reasonable?

Also, can I ask what do you think of nature jixing? I need the cheapest alternative 'cause I'm a broke uni student,lol... Thanks in advance... :0)

  • @DavinaFaerie i'm not convinced about that price. i buy mine 2 years ago but i payed 139 eur that in dollars are a bit more (but consider here price are usually higher for musical stuff, most of things cost same price even if eur value is higher than dollar). It seem really too expansive. It is a good guitar but it get cheap components. You saw prices at Rondo Music shop? I guess are reasonable than this one

  • @rafport Really? Wow, I was just about to buy that... We don't have the euro here in Australia, we have the Australian dollar which is not much in difference to the Us dollar.

Damn, I'm checking out Rondo music then...Thanks so much-I really appreciate it... :0)

  • @DavinaFaerie i'm here to share knowledge with other youtube users, so i'm happy too if i can be helpful. I never tried the Jixing guitars so i don't know, i can talk just of guitars i tried or own. There are some very nice cheap guitars outthere, but not all cheap guitars are good and price is not a good meter to judge

  • @DavinaFaerie these models are sold here. Pony Music stocks a wide range of SX guitars!

  • @rafport btw, what do you think of Nature by Jixing guitars?

  • @DavinaFaerie Last I saw just under $200 @ Pony Music. I checked the website but they arent listed. They have a much bigger range than what they show on the website.

  • really nice playing bro,

  • @XDMETALLICARULES thanks

  • hey the guitar its awsome but with what amp are you playing?¿ please reply

  • @KfeAristann i wrote in the info of this video, epiphone blues custom (30)

  • Wow that guitar has the nicest tone!!! Very beautiful too....nice playing! I was going to get one of these but I got an Xaviere Tele from GFS.....

  • @w1av How is that Xaviere? I was thinking of getting one of those

  • What a nice axe! And great sound you've got there as well. Very nice playing! Always liked thinline tele's after seeing that classic video of Al Stewart and his band doing "Year of the Cat" on the Old Grey Whistle Test. Find it at watch?v=QM7LR46zrQU or doa YouTube search for "Year of the Cat" Its the first one that comes up . \m/

  • omg amazing

  • TOO SHINY! But sounds great.

  • Nice playing and I am thinking of getting one! Thanks for the review... : )

  • @markerf16 thank you for visit my video, there are some newer video on this sx on my page

  • @StefanoComo1981 Pagato nelle rispettive nazioni!

  • Did SX used to be called Jim Deacon? Nice guitar mate

  • Great playing Raf!!, and I'm enjoying my new SX thin line tele!

  • I don't see any headstocks on the Rondo site that look like that! Where did you get it?

  • @TheZepmeister you right, i checked the Rondo site just now, they totally change headstocks (maybe Fender give problem for their shape). Before all SX has a sort of strat headstock with a sort of hook in the round curve, but some SX tele has their original shape (and some strat their original too). Now it seem all with that strange headstock... not bad but it not seem like a Fender. I get it 2 yrs ago, it was not difficult to find. Try a Tele from Richwood brand, it should be almost same :)

  • @TheZepmeister These headstocks are still available everywhere but N America. I've seen them on Int. ebay.

  • once again, killer sounding guitar and sweet playing

  • @peskypesky thanks for both comments my friend!

  • Great video, awesome playing!

Just wondering what type of amp you're running it through?

  • @katanaboy995 it is an old video, i was using a pod xt live in usb recording but i don't remember the modeled amp i used (i think a marshall, i use just a pair of amp on the pod and for exlusion i think a jtm 45 simulation)

  • very cool looking guitar

  • BEATIFUL SOLO

  • At 52, with 30 yrs of half assed trying, I will never approach your skill. I too, bought the standard SX Telecaster (instead of your 'Thinline') a couple of years ago. The guitar is plenty good for anyone, but can really be tweaked to a semi serious level if desired for it comes with quality basic major parts.

  • @kolbpilot you're very kind! thank you. it has decent pickup and quite decent hardware, but i'm going to change pickup soon. with some work on it sx guitars are good, much better than price can suggest. the only thing it should be well done it is the wood, al rest can be substituted or modded!

  • You did a fine, fine job with this video.

  • @psychkoala thank you!

  • Hi, please excuse my bad English. I finally got a Thinline SX, I'm from Argentina and I am determined that my ThinLine sounds like yours (although your fingers make a big difference!) I've seen and reviewed all your videos and still I have a few questions.

    1) What brand and gauge of strings did you put?

    2) You say that fit the mast to fix the tuning? How? Send it to a luthier or did you?

    3) My pickups do not sound so "hot" like yours. I would advise instead of putting it brings?. Thanks a lot

  • @pagerena hi, don't worry for english, mine is worst than you i'm form italy and use english just here :) good buy. i use dimarzio 10-46 strings. my sx needed a lot of work for truss rod (strings should be with a low action on all neck) and for intonation in bridge saddlers. i had to sand a fret and the nut (i should change nut soon). my pickups are not hot, they're quite weak (like a standard tele) you can put higher for more output but it really depends on your picking and your amps.

  • How about the action? I bought a strats copied of SX and the action troubling me to do string bending...

  • @KensY you need to setup the neck, setting the truss rod. both SX i got was awfully setup when arrived (ordered online), after a set up the neck was pleasant and fat and no problems with action

  • You're a great guitarist. Loved the Beatles Album chord you threw in @ 1:51.

  • @battonpending thank you!

  • I love the rondo guitars, except the fat necks...

I've played SG thin necks my whole life...

  • The neck & bribge pickups would be in parallel not series.

  • @battonpending thank you, i confused writing! corrected

  • Sounds fantastic. What amp did you use here?

  • Hi

Which is the scale of that guitar?

    24 3/4" or 25"?

    Thanks!

  • nice man!

im getting a cheap Tele as well, but its a mahogany bodied..

Bach guitars if you ever heard about them, will be awesome!

  • i eard about, i own two :) great guitar, but i never tried a tele in mahogany, i'm not so sure the specs of this wood is good for the classic telecaster tone. let me know how it play and maybe post some video

  • Very nice video.

  • thank you

  • @gerbilsaurusrex1 vey kind :)

  • ahahah no unfortunately i've to pay for buy one and neither a discount for me (luckily are cheap) :D if someone at SX want me to do some video for them and wanna gift me something... ;) (this guitar is a real deal anyway, not all sx are so good, this one need to be bought)

  • does your tele resonate as an acoustic that much? compared to a regular solid body?

  • it is a semi hollow so it resonate more but wont expect an acoustic guitar, just a side of the body is empty :) it is much like a tele but a bit more of bass and "air" in the tone, but play almost as a tele solid body

  • thank you :)

  • This guitar looks outstanding - it sounds fantastic. I doubt if anyone could tell the difference from a Fender in a blindfold test. Great review video and excellent playing.

  • thank you. the guitar need some tuning and in some particular, like the f-hole, is a bit rough. anyway it plays, it plays really really well and is with all stock. it is a very big deal :) and is one of best sounding telecaster of any price i used

  • ok, I want one. :) Love the neck pickup. I have one question for you: Does it have a slim/thin neck profile, or is it nice and chunky/fat? I prefer a thicker neck, but for that price.... who cares, right.

    Thanks

  • neck is quite fat on this sx, fat and confortable :) i guess you can apreciate this...

  • Hey, nice guitar. What specific model is it?

For pickups, I would get an APC (formely Adder) Paisley T300N Tele* neck pickup

    and

either a Lindy Fralin Blues Special or Peter Florance Voodoo in the bridge

These are what Brad Paisley uses!

How do you like the Epiphone Blues Custom for Tele? I have been thinking of getting one. Clip sounds good!!

  • thank you for compliments. your pickup choice is very good, but even it seem incredible wont understimate stock pickup (i put lot of videos on this sx), i tried several tele and a fender 54 reissue, and i can assure this sx is still very good. i should check for code (i'm not at home now) but it calls sx thinline and stop on ebay. epi amp rocks, it is great and sounds great with strat and teles (better at high volumes). there are some videos of this too :)

  • hey, i got the same amp! what settings are you on? i got bass all the way open, mid all the way closed, & treble on 3/4,

    cool review!

  • it depends on guitar, i usually leave all to midnight, maybe highs little lower and bass little higher. tele and strat has plenty of brightness so too many highs for my ears are not sweet. i love this amp! thank you for compliments

  • Hi my friend I´m from brasil do you know any trust source maybe a web site that i can buy this and send me here in my country?

    nice guitar1

  • hi from italy :) i buyed online from ebay, the shop was dn-store and i'm quite sure it ship worldwide. it was real good store, i bought 2 sx there

  • Thanks for the reply, but can you send me a direct link with this guitar , cause it seems not exist anymore this login on ebay!

    thnks

  • Hey, you got the old headstock!

  • there are sx with original headstock :)

  • Thanks for posting this! It's difficult to know which guitars that are decent amongst budget guitars. BTW nice playing!

  • thank you :) it is difficult find a player who is not so interested in the brand written in the headstock (and cheap brands has not money to loose paying for important players in endorsing and demos). i'm not saying people gift or steal money, but the equation more you spend better it play is really wrong. use you ears, not the written or the price to judge.

  • yes, and is one of best teles of any brand i ever tried :) more than suggested

  • Thanks for posting this. I am interested to hear how it sounds. Did the tuning settle down eventually?

  • i've posted several videos, this one was just when the guitar come home. tuning improved a lot, but i sand and lube the capo fret (it was the problem, tuners was not excellent but quite decent and no bad the bridge). this guitar is incredibile, i've tried this weekend a fender american 54 reissue... a great guitar, but i'm not sure i like this one more than this sx (tone was really similiar on bridge, neck on sx is darker and fatter). i love the thinline!

  • Yeah I checked out a couple more of your vids. I am looking at the new Fender Player Thinline deluxe, but for the money these SX guitars sound like the real deal!

  • i never met someone (and a lot of people and even very good guitarist tried mine) who at the end says something different that "you're serious, yoi payed this guitar 120 eur?". i'm considering about buy a second one :) if you read comments, a lot of guys buy this after seeing those videos and all of them are happy. you should try :) and thank you for comment on my channel!

  • hey man, the playing was great! I've been looking at buying one of these sx teles simply because of all the good things i've heard about. I noticed yours is a semi hollow body, do you think the solid body sx tele would play and sound as good as your semi hollow?

  • i've two sx and i can say both are good, but this one really rock. semi hollow has a very similiar behavior of the solid body, with a bit of addedd bass and resonance, but not so different. a great different is the wood, this one is ash tele, but several solid body sx tele are alder and sounds very different. i'll go for sure for this model, as i know several people who own and all of them are real happy (even with stock pickups)

  • thanks bro!

  • ottimo sound..poi hai montato altri pickups?che ne è uscito'?

    e quanto l hai pagata?

  • capo? i think you mean the nut. nice guitar i heard it's better then lot's of mexican fender tele's

  • i'm not sure of the term... english is not my first language. in italian it called "capotasto" and the moving bar is just a moveable capotasto, as in theory is just the first fret to be played. anyway i'm quite sure to find in some shop the first fret called "capo" too (capo mean the head or the commander, it derive for this term in the common use)

  • I was all ready to pull the trigger on a Squier Thinline and then I came across your video.

To my ears this is exactly what a good Tele should sound like--regardless of what name happens to be on the headstock,so now it's an SX for me so many thanks! Oh, very good playing too btw! 5 stars.

I am also tempted by the SX lap steel--have you seen that?

  • thank you for compliment. a friend says trying the sx tele "now i've understand what is exactly the difference from a strat and a tele, i wouldnt notice trying other teles". :) obvioulsy depends of several things, but really play nice for this cost and even without thinking to price. i never tried lap steel i'm tempted about anyway i've seen on the ebay store :) i'm tempted to buy a second thinline and put humbucking on the bridge too :D

  • I've got mine a couple of weeks now and the tuners are indeed the only weak point in my opinion, I am truly amazed by the sound and play of this guitar. I love it;-)

  • my tuner are not disaster, it need to be screwed and become a bit harder to turn, but not worst i've used. anyway good tuners costs half of whole guitar so really cant complaint this :)

  • Disaster?? I didn't say disaster, but I've just seen and felt better tuners, no real problem, wich cannot be fixed, but just a downside of this overall fine guitar......that's not so bad now, is it??

  • they're just not real soft but it works. for example i've got an ash sx strat with great wood finishing, but tuner are real disaster there. no, maybe not worst i ever used :) but they have neither a recular strenght, you turn and felt weak.. then hard.. then weak. i'll change for sure when i find pretty nice gold tuners to put :) the tele one are just decent, maybe can stay there

  • for mine it is needed just a bit of work. it happens even on expensive guitars, is really rare it come out from shop perfect in truss, intonation, frets, action and bridge.

  • Mine just got here. Stays intune fine, looking to upgrade to heavier strings though. Frets are abit weird. Action is perfect though

  • frets should be jumbo... it depends for taste, are anyway fatter than a tipical tele. i need to sand just one in last 2 strings

  • I just recieved mine & it's GREAT for the money. Same guitar but with the Tri-Burst. Mine came with an amazingly Flamed maple neck. Very nice guitar overall. I'm going to fine tune it with rolled fretboard edges & I may do some work on the neck to bring out the marvelous figuring.

Thanks for the great reviews. I'm satisfied with mine!

  • The pick-ups are more spanky than so many i've played over the years... I'm leaning toward's Fralin's but these ... well I may just have to see. i just got it today. Great guitar right out of the box...

  • yes it is a great guitar :) very good buy. ehi, i wanna sx endorse me in one month i make sell at least 4-5 teles on youtube :D

anyway is fundamental for shopping (especially for online shopping) to see serious - and maybe buyers made - demo of musical instruments. i've seen so many videos about stuff i want to buy. with sx i risk as i wont find any decent one... and this is strange as it was so good guitars

  • Thanks for your post, nice guitar. Can you get it to sound like jazz on a 335 ?

  • mmmm it really play like a telecaster with a little more bass. you cannot advice big difference from a common tele except the weight much lighter. it is a semi hollow, but the resonant area are smaller than a semi acoustic blues or jazz guitar, sio i think wont sound like them. think an ash telecaster with a bit of added acoustic resonant and bass, but still a telecaster. maybe with a different pickup can play similiar but body is nearest to a solid than a semi acoustic

  • Thanks.

  • it is just pod xt live with a marshall lead 100 modeling (gain medium, just a bit cruched like i use) and a bit of modeled spring reverb (put before amp in chain not after). any compression, stomp, eq. usb recorded.

  • Hi,

I think that your videos showing this guitar sound great and you are also a great player.

One thing that is intriguing me is that you say in the video that it costs 120€. Where did you find it at that price? I can only find it at 200€+.

  • hi, thank you for compliments. i buyed on ebay on dn-store (brand new guitar, it was not used) for 119 eur + shipping. you should find as i ear other people buy other after mine. the sunburst without perloid was a 109 when i bought this, but i really wanted this one. if you interested i post other videos about this guitar on my page. it is very good with stock parts, but i think to mod all electric components soon :)

  • Ah, ok. I already knew the store but I did not knew that they had thinlines in stock. Last time I checked they only had a few basses and a few teles.

I been wanting a thinline for quite sometime and I think this will be it!

I have a SX telecaster and I also like it a lot; it's not the same as my Classic 50s but it is very tele like but a little more rocking and modern sounding and I don't have problems with the tuners. I played with a SX strat that had problems with the tuners (really bad).

  • i guess it depends by model. my sx strat ash is quite good for tuners. the bad thing (of both tele and strat) is the string retainer into the headstock, this avoid string to move so it will detune easily. i change in tele and i'll order gold colour for strat, and i put string roller that is quite good and work much better! i'm really curious to hear how will sounds with good pickups... i'll discover soon i guess :)

  • Good luck with modding your guitar!

From the experience I have with pickups, I would put in a set of Bareknuckles. I have one in my Joan Jett (VHII Humbucker) and it is awesome.

  • i ear very good things about bareknuckles pickups. for the thinline i was oriented about a nocaster fender set or (maybe i choose the seconds) a couple of twang king dimarzio; i used for a while a richie kotzen tele who mount on the neck and it sounds very good (the dimarzio chopper in the bridge of the kotzen's is really too aggressive and wont sounds as a tele in my opinion). i've seen also several video of twang king bridge and sounds real interesting; price is very good too

  • Yeah, I saw a video of those with a CV Tele, I think, and it sounds pretty cool. The SCN on the neck of your tele deluxe also sounds pretty damn cool. It was one of the best neck pickup sounds I heard from a tele!

  • mmm i tried (it is not mine, is from a fried) and ask him to lend me for a while his tele DLX because i was thinking to mount on the SX strat a SCN set, because i've yet a strat with custom shop 54 and i'm really satisfied it and wanted something different (and because scn set is cheapest in thomann shop!). i'm quite unconvinced now, i really dislike the SCN tele bridge and the neck is not bad, but i dont like really much... clean and brite but in someway lifeless.. like the twang king much more

  • Well, I do agree that the bridge pickup sounds pretty bad in the sense that it is completely un-tele like.

Thomann is one of the stores I always check prices. The other is DV247; they manage to get good prices in lots of stuff, especially fender (they have the classic vibe tele at 240€!).

  • i'll check this other shop you suggest me, i dont know. thomann is great i ordered some stuff, real serious shop. i buy sometime from tube town and banzai music, but those shop are more oriented to components and diy stuff and miss instruments.

for the pups i'll ask to my friend to give me for a while even the ibanez timmons with a couple of dimarzio chopper, i want try others humbucking with single tone (i would try area from dimarzio, i dont know anyone got some mounted)

  • I could obtain a translator ... you touch very well friend ... ma your guitar pleases very much and I am thinking of buying me one as yours ... this sx works very well .. I am going to look for your videoes ... I wait q when it(he,she) raises my videoes see them .. we meet friend...thank you

  • in my opinion (and in opinion of anyone who tried it, even experienced guitarists) the sx thinline are money extremely well spent and is quite good even with stock pickups (cheap model but play decent)

  • very beatiful you guitar. (no speak very good in enghish)

  • thank you, dont worry english is not my language too :) if you interested i put some other videos about the SX thinline on muy page

  • are you in a band rafport??

    and if not why not??

  • not on this moment... i would try to do an album (i poorly play even drums and keyboard... so i can try some instrumental things!) but now i'm so deeply fallen on diy question and tone search i'm never playing seriously :D

  • UHHH!'

I wasmt the first to comment. I was the first to see it though! 5stars!

  • ahahahaha thanks :)

  • i think your video just goes to prove that a good guitarist can make any guitar sound good, but a great guitar wont really help a rubbish player!!

is this played through your ampmaker amp??

  • thank you :) no i used an epiphone blues custom 30 (anoter quite cheap amp that ROCKS, but with a cleaner - some fenderish - tone with a warm and gently overdrive when cranked). anyway this is a very cheap guitars... that play seriously at leas as a mid class guitar. musicians should stop to buy things reading brands, sometime they're worst that 16 yrs old girls on a fashon boutique! use ears, save money and search for you real tone! ;)
