@twintwixt123456789 G'day... Well, I enjoyed growing up reading Heinlein. But, he was too much a product of 1920s Middle USA. Too Neo-Imperial, too Misogynistic, too Militaristic, too Techno-Triumphalist, too Patriotic, too Jingoistic, & too Religiously devoted Scientific Eliteism... So, I outgrew his views. Joe Haldeman's Forever War beats Starship Troopers..! AmeriKA lost in 'Nam because S.T. was SO wrong. Then resurected it for Absurdistan & Iraq. Heinleins' Legacy !
I love his idea that true citizenship should be EARNED, and that you should need one in order to participate in politics. You should not gaincitizenship just for incidentally existing.
I believe I have every book and story written by Robert Heinlein and I read them all every year...I can almost quote from them as if they were religious writings! I am currently reading Stranger in a Strange Land and once again I am "in the nest" and trying to "grok" everything that is going on around me.
@bkiene Why not? :) Especially considering that I have never been Michael (Jubal Harshaw is still my heroe). Last week I tried for the first time to tell my son (7) that a "door into summer" was not necessarily a real door and that writers like to describe things a bit different... however, all the best to you from Germany :D
this is one of my favorite authors i have read and loved all his books, but the book Friday disturbed me somewhat becuase there was a lot of anti semitism in that book and also the other book which has that one bloke on a boat and he drifts about in diffrent time periods not liking blackamoors as he called them.
I like that book because it ties into "The Cat Who Walks Through Walls" most of all I think Adam Saleen AKA microftxxx was a very funny character. I just finished re-reading that one and now I'm re-reading Franhams Freehold.... Man that one is a twist, check it out
howdy ted. expanded universe is sort of a collection of short storys and essays, with a good deal of input from his wife. and what a girl she is/was! it is the original reference for his now famous quote,"an armed society is a polite society" and there are some really great storys contained in this volume. a really good (confusing) read is
the "number of the beast", and "friday"
and can you imagine a world without the letter "y"?
It seems that if we were to borrow some of RAH's concepts in our society, it might be a better place...

You get the best idea of RAH's vision by reading his books from the late 40's and early 50's.
You also get an amazing view of a growth of world view as you read his later books.
I think I have read them all - at least all that I have been able to find in the last 50 years or so - a wonderful voyage.

I think you mean he was born in 1907, not 1970. Unless he teleported forward in time a couple of decades as a baby.

Mispronouncing Heinlein's name, which uses the German pronunciation: "Hine-line," not "Heen-lean."
