All I really remember is the part where the girl gets digitized and pretty much nothing else. Maybe I was digitized when i was younger and that is all i remember.
@pulp06 I had both the white and the black ship, which if you weren't playing the video, you could play a sort of laser tag with the ships. so. much. awesome.
Why is it that the fucking machines always win. Why can't the battle between man and machine be won by mankind, which forces the machines to rise up and take back what was never rightfully theirs in the first place?
haha. digitize them! holy crap that used to scare me so much! thanks for uploading this! i remember these graphics looked SO awesome when we were young!
It was funny, i was getting all giddy and laughing out loud when I saw this, brings back memories hehe. I was also getting the shakes for some reason, oh well.
Although the show was created solely as a promotion & tie-in for the interactive toys, its scripts were MUCH better than they should have been because of script editor J. Michael Straczynski... who would go on to create the syndicated series "Babylon 5"!
does anybody remember that tv show on usa that was similar to the power ranger ?the teenagers turn into giants in spandex and they all form together to make a knight.
Every time I see Sven Thorsen in a movie, like The Running Man or Red Heat, I'm always like, "OH hey, it's Tank!" My wife has no idea what I'm talking about.
I remeber having the figures and ships that went with this show, but it was hard to find on TV where I lived. You pointed the ship at the screen and light pulses from the screen (think: video game light gun tech) were picked up by the toy and registered hits and eventually your ship would fly apart in your hand!
Yesterday I found an old tape with a bunch of stuff and I saw an episode of Captain Power! Was this show made in Canada? Because lots of these actors are Canadian. The special effects were actually very good for that time. The episode that I have is when that evil cyborg ( Vader ripoff ) pollutes water and "Tank" drinks it and goes berserk. Also the pteranodon robot is called Sauron like in LOTR, lol I'm a comic book fan and there's also a Sauron pteranodon villain in the Marvel universe!
Isn't this the series where you could use the toys to go along with the show? Like you could buy ships that could some how interact with the episode when they were flying around???
GOSH!!! Thanks for uploading this! I have the entire series on VHS...priceless treasures...and the animation in the series was way ahead of its time...I even have the toys which are awesome and kept in glass shelves in my home...I just simply love my childhood!
This show was interactive with the merchandise. The glowing parts on their suits were targets that your toys could shoot and score points. Such a cool idea that no one has done since.
Interactive TV shows... Seriously, it's amazing they haven't done it again. I mean- my god- I wanted that PowerJet fighter BADLY because it could do just that!
@ranwolf76 - you are correct. But the toy was pretty pointless since it acted as a spaceship that acted as a gun during the action sequences with specially colored light patterns on the show - there was a glitch where you could aim it at any lamp, or light fixture, and rack up points.
@Diskoboy1974 I wasn't aware of that glitch. Then again, I didn't buy the "interactive" toys because I realized the show wouldn't last long and then the toys would be useless.
this show was so awesome, it came on skychanel way back when,
i have the series on dvd, it still holds up if your a child of the 80's and nostalgia kicks in :P, to bad they don't have stuff like this any more for today's youth, one of the reasons that kids now are of there rockers, if you ask me
If I remember right about this there was a tie in toy you could use t play with the show on tv or something like that..I remember it cause it's one of the few toys that was expensive my dad bought me when I was a kid.
I really liked the look of this show but I didn't have the laser toys which a lot of it revolved around so I guess it just got drowned out by the slew of awesome 80's toys that were around back then. Probably kept it from catching on with a lot of kids who didn't wanna make the big allowance investment on an untested technology haha.
I can't front, I totally drank the Kool-Aid for this show. I had the XT-7 AND the Interceptor toys AND was aiming them both at the screen every single shiow as well as with the 3 VHS-exclusive videos. If 3D made such a huge comeback, interactive-combat shows can't be that far behind. Nostalgia's a hell of a drug.
This show actually disappeared after parents were in an uproar over the fact that in order to fully interact with the shows, you had to by toys you could shoot at the screen with. THink is was Mattel that made the toys. They took a lot of flak and the show, although they supposedly had scripts for three seasons, only made it into its second...
The CGI may have been garbage back then but the concepts are far better than the garbage being made today. Imagine this concept with today's CGI and some decent writing, acting, and directing. I would watch it.
@AnOldBlackMarble Boy, you'd need a really, really talented team of writers and FX artists to really pull this show out of the scrap heep of yesterday's consumerism and do it justice. Would there be an action figure line as well?
@AnOldBlackMarble I have a feeling this will be re-booted and given an awesome new feel to the awesome series...i still have the entire Captain Power toy sets..and it sure ain't for sale even if some hard core fan offers a million bucks for it...they are priceless and this series exceeds the story shit of today's brainless cartoon series...even then they managed to create some CGI though with bulky computers of IBM then...nevertheless, it's timeless classics!
@anima469968 anima, it was only on the air for a year and was moved around to many different time slots all the time. the show was very solid in my opinion and had some of the eaarliest CGI ever, but as it went on it brought you more and more into that world. When the show ended it went into reruns and disappeared. I was lucky to have taped the show on video I have allt he episodes. Parents groups also panned the show for its violence and they eventually foreced it off the air.
I had the training video, my brother had that XT-7 Jet thingy and I had the Black Phantom Striker. I had Lord Dread and he had Capt Power figure...best thing of all was when you werent playing with them, they worked well as flashlights during blackouts...
@Abercrombemonkey Power Rangers ripped off elements of Captain Power. It was influenced by earlier Japanese shows and then Captain Power itself influenced Later Japanese shows like Power Ranger. Kinda a feedback loop. One of the things that makes it cool is that it can be decidedly deadly for the characters.
