I'm not a huge Placebo fan but they are definately one of the best rock bands we have today. I just love their sound and the way they naturally sound sad, but it never comes off like they're trying to sound sad. Like it's just the way they are. This song is perfect. It's strange that they aren't more mainstream. I guess they'd have to suck to be mainstream though.

I dunno, he seems more human singing it live, but I almost don`t like that, the appeal of Placebo`s version was more about how it seemed so absent. Didn`t really like the music video either when people were mouthing the lyrics... it works so much better when you hear it immersed over non-mouthing imagery, like slow dramatic action scenes, that`s where I think it`s really taken off.

I'm a very long-time Kate fan (as might be inferred from my username).

I'm not a fan of this band, but I appreciate them covering it and making her songwriting available to a new generation. Perhaps it will lead Placebo's fans to get Kate's original song to hear the difference and see if they like it or not. At the very least, they might check Kate out to try to find out what the members of Placebo liked about the original song.
