Big part of Mariah's career IS pop music and I don't think doing urban rnb and hip hop is adventurous and equals to lower sales since mainstream music is full of rnb/hip hop artists. Mariah being biracial is the best selling artist in Asia by far. Celine, being white, is the best selling artist ever in Africa. Whitney being black managed to surpass all others and get the best selling album ever by a female artist as well as the best selling single (I will always love you). There is no correlation at all.

Ok My favorite is Celine Dion and here's why: Celine Dion is very, very skilled. She can repeat performance after performance. She knows her voice and she takes care of it. @trre862 Since your comments are about me, please reply DIRECTLY to me. Who has the best voice is up to opinion. Having a good voice doesn't make you a good singer. I feel MC was better in the 1990-1996 era and probably around 2002 and 2005/2006. Then Celine takes it for me. Anyway, critics are the ones who started talking about a vocal TRINITY including Celine. Same goes with people who decided about award nominations etc, same goes for the media and the industry as a whole.

@trre862 About their sales, I highly disagree. Big part of Mariah's career IS pop music and I don't think doing urban rnb and hip hop is adventurous and equals to lower sales since mainstream music is full of rnb/hip hop artists. On the other hand, Celine is still credited as an adult contemporary singer. Therefore she doesn't recieve any airplay and the proof is the fact that she didn't have a top 20 hit on Billboard the past 11 years.She is just a stable album seller.

@trre862 If you really check their respective sales you'll see that skin colour and race are not correlated to their sales and success. Mariah being biracial is the best selling artist in Asia by far. Celine, being white, is the best selling artist ever in Africa. Whitney being black managed to surpass all others and get the best selling album ever by a female artist as well as the best selling single (I will always love you). There is no correlation at all.

@Luxiusta07 yes thats true all of them have been called the greatest female singers esp. of the 90's (mariah, whitney, and celine) and I would agree that celine sounded better circa 1997 but overall mariah "in my opinion" is a better singer case in point but of course celine is still up there behind mariah and whitney, she's great too.

FYI Madonna is the best selling artist even though most people say Mariah is but she is second not Celine even though all 3 are among top ten. Anyway Mariah has a much greater legacy than Celine and she is always ranked higher on greatest singers list mostly at number 1 and Celine wasn't even on Rolling Stone's list of greatest singers. Mariah has 18 number 1 singles, 6 number 1 albums and she has inspired Beyonce, christina (greatest singers of this generation) and many others..

Celine has a better, more unique voice for me. She is more popular and successful worldwide. She has more awards (more prestigious ones) and a better discography. Her songs show a wider lyrical diversity. Vocally, she is better than Mariah now. & She's always been a better performer as well. MC was great in the 90s (better than Celine), she gave amazing perfomances in and out of her prime, she is more influencial and a great songwriter. Her songs show a wider musical diversity than Celine's. <3

Haters .. can't recognize mariah's whistle .. can you change notes and use mellisma using whistle ? can you reach .. c#7 to g#7 using whistle voice ? can you shout that note .. ? can you harmonize with the music using whislte notes ? can you make it thin or powerful using whislte voice ? can you speak with whislte voice ? ONLY FEW can do that .. :) But the Queen is Mariah .. not only she can whistle but she can sing and PRODUCE and WRITE her own music :) hayyss ..

Ok My favorite is Celine Dion and here's why: Celine Dion is very, very skilled. She can repeat performance after performance. She knows her voice and she takes care of it. Mariah Carey has to be given props for her range, that whistle is absolutely incredible. However considering the fact that she can no longer sing not sure how much it was worth doing all those really high notes when it ruined her voice but hey, what do I know?

@Tygearianus I used to like MC more than CD, I thought her wistle was so amazing, but than I saw Lil Bow Wow on interview & he can wistle too, Cristina Aguilera, Shanice, Sarah Brightman, Charlotte Church, etc. So I thought if lots of artist can wistle voice than what is so special about wistle voice? My cousin can wistle voice, but she can't sing at all. When I saw MC singing "My All" on Divas NY'98, she can't reach the high note, but she made that song 2 months earlier! What a joke fat Mimi!!!

When i listen MC ''Oh holy night'', i feel the gospel and the happiness of black christian in this church, its very good. And the other hand when i listen CD on the same song i feel the spirit of chritianity, its very good too. When i listen Katy Perry on hot n cold song, i feel the pleasure and i laugh when she have her baseball bat with her make-up dripping on her face. If you're comparing Mariah in her prime in the 90s and Celine Dion in the 90s there's no comparison, they're both amazing, but if you're comparing Celine Dion now to Mariah now, Celine wins, Mariah like another person said is getting lazy with her voice the way she sings now is nothing like the way she belted in her prime. I can hardly understand what she says because of her style of singing. Celine uses a vocal coach and techniques to keep her voice the way it is

The thing is: you can't compare divas. They all have their disticnt qualities that make them amazing. Celine and Whitney and increbidly powerful belters. Mariah's got range and a killer whistle register, X-tina is amazing with her vocal acrobatics. It's best not to try and compare these qualities and say that one diva is better than the other. Just sit back and soak up their amazing-ness.
